The summer’s culminating activity was the annual Awards Day festivities where counselors spoke flowingly of some of the campers who really showed good sportsmanship and tremendous cooperation at camp. The highlight was the announcement of this year’s Edward F. Kienle Award winner. The award is given in honor of Mr. Kienle, the man who started this program in the 1950s. This year’s winner is Zachary Cook. September is a time to remember all that was lost to us that day: our sense of security, our peace, our innocence, our belief that we were safe beyond such random violence. Most of all, we remember those who lost their lives on September 11th, and specifically, the eight Lindenhurst residents that lost or gave their lives that horrific day. This year, the Village of Lindenhurst will be holding our 21st Year Candlelight Remembrance Service beginning at 5:00PM on Sunday, September 11th, 2022 at the Village’s 9-11 Memorial Garden, located on the south side of Lindenhurst Village Park, on Byrd Street between Irmisch Avenue and Heling Boulevard.
