RUNWAY FOR A CAUSE

On Friday, June 9th, officials from the Village of Lindenhurst, Town of Babylon, and Suffolk County Legislature attended Ooh la la Boutique’s “Runway for a Cause” event which was held in the name of Brest Cancer awareness. Local Summer Senior Advocate Schedule

Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) is pleased to inform Babylon and Huntington residents about the local Suffolk County Office for the Aging Summer 2023 Senior Advocate Schedule. Senior advocates are County representatives who come out into the community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies.

“This is an excellent chance for senior citizens to get the assistance and information they need by connecting with the County’s senior advocates right in their own communities,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I hope all those interested in the services that the Suffolk County Office for the Aging provides will take advantage of this opportunity.”

It is that time of the year when temperatures are climbing, with some days over 90 degrees. The excessive heat can be very dangerous for everyone, especially pets, infants, and the elderly. Here are some helpful tips on how to stay cool and safe during excessive heat days:

• Eliminate strenuous activities until the heat of the day has passed

• Wear lightweight, loosefitting, and light-colored clothing.

• Minimize direct exposure to the sun, and wear sunglasses and sun

screen.

• Drink plenty of water.

• Take time to go to the beach, a pool, or shady park.

• Take cool baths or showers.

• Make sure your pets have plenty of water, and a shaded area to rest.

Most of us that live on the South Shore of Long Island wait all year long to enjoy the fun that the summer months here have to offer. So, enjoy the summer sun, but take the proper precautions to stay safe and hydrated.

Also, please remember

to Watch Your Speed while driving throughout our Village. With our children out of school for the summer, and with so many events going on in the Village, there are a lot more people out and about. Therefore, when you are driving, please be patient and courteous, and watch out for pedestrians, cyclists, and other motorists. Please remember -- safety first, slow down, and let’s all enjoy the summer!
