Lindenhurst is pleased to announce the newest community event – the Lindenhurst Farmers Market. The Farmers Market will be open Saturdays, 10:00AM – 1:00PM, at Village Square Park, on the northeast corner of Wellwood & Hoffman Avenues, now through November 2nd.

Organized by local volunteer Darlene Fantel, the weekly event will welcome a variety of vendors selling locally-grown produce, homemade foods,

baked goods, handmade crafts, jewelry and other unique items. The market will also sometimes feature live musical performances by local music artists. Come by and visit each week -you never know what new treasures you will find!

Area SUNY Potsdam Students Named To President’s List

The State University of New York at Potsdam recently named 727 students to the President’s List, in recognition of their academic excellence in the Spring 2024 semester. The SUNY Potsdam students were honored for earning top marks by President Dr. Suzanne Smith.

To achieve the honor of being on the President’s List, each student must have satisfactorily completed 12 numerically-graded semester hours, with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

New Parking Meter Kiosks

On Wellwood

To serve you better, the Village of Lindenhurst is upgrading its parking meters on Wellwood Avenue to touch-screen parking meter kiosks that accept both coins and credit cards. In addition, we are introducing “Pay-by-App” and “Pay-by-Text” options that will allow customers to pay without using the kiosk!

As part of this new system, most parking spaces on Wellwood will be numbered, and to begin any parking transaction, customers must enter their space number. Customers parking in a numbered space must use a new parking kiosk, or their smartphones (pay-by-app or pay-by-text), to pay for parking. Customers

Parking times and fees remain the same as before -- all meters are in effect Monday through Saturday from 9AM to 9PM; $0.25 per hour/3-hour maximum. The “Go Live” date for North Wellwood Avenue is 6/19. The South

parking in non-numbered spaces with an old-style parking meter should continue to use the old meter as they do today.

Also, 15-minute free “inand-out” spaces will remain on both North and South Wellwood!

Here are some additional instructions related to the new meters:

Wellwood Avenue kiosks will go into effect after the road is repaved and the newly-angled spaces are painted & numbered.

Funding For The Fourth Senator Martinez Announces Grants Awarded To S.D. 4 Organizations

New York State Senator Monica R. Martinez announced that $35,000 has been allocated to three community-based programs in the Fourth Senatorial District. The funding secured by Senator Martinez will go to the Amityville Union Free School District, Citizenship Initiative for Change, and the Suffolk County Police Athletic League, Inc. for:

• Amityville UFSD: Awarded $10,000 to enhance their environmental research center for students. This center will provide students with hands-on learning opportunities in environmental science and sustainability.

• Citizenship Initiative for Change: Granted $10,000 to assist minority groups in navigating the citizenship examination process. This initiative aims to empower individuals by providing resources and support essential for successful citizenship attainment.

As we celebrate Independence Day, I am lled with pride and gratitude for the many freedoms and opportunities that come with being an American. Our history is lled with stories of courage, resilience, and determination. From our founding fathers to the everyday acts of kindness and innovation that de ne our country, America is where dreams can be realized and where every individual has the potential to make a difference.

Living and working in Lindenhurst, I see the American spirit in our community every day. We come together to support one another, celebrate our achievements, and work towards a brighter future.

I am grateful for the opportunities this country has given me, and I am proud to call myself an American. I want to acknowledge the sacri ces of the brave women and men throughout history who have fought to protect our freedom and way of life here…and to all the people in our Armed Forces today who protect us at home and all around the world.
