MHAW is very excited about its 6th annual Kick Stands Up event, which will take place on Sunday, July 22nd from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the BMHMC Amphitheater at Bald Hill in Farmingville. Hosted by Founding Sons Law Enforcement/Military Motorcycle Club and Impressive and Aggressive Motor Club, attendees will visit up close with event registrants and their beautiful motorcycles, custom and classic cars. The Association for Mental Health and Wellness (MHAW) is a non-profit behavioral healthcare organization that serves more than 3,000 people each year among 33 diverse communities throughout Suffolk County at four sites. Two of these sites are based in Ronkonkoma, one is based in Riverhead and the last is based in Yaphank, where its Suffolk County United Veterans project is based.

The organization was formed in 2014 with the merger of three successful organizations in Suffolk County; the Mental Health Association in Suffolk County, Clubhouse of Suffolk and Suffolk County United Veterans. Services include a comprehensive range of personcentered recovery and wellness-driven programming for youth and adults who are affected by psychiatric disabilities, trauma and complex health conditions, providing people, along with our U.S. Veterans, with opportunities to heal and work toward their recovery.

Everyone possesses their own unique worth and individuality, and MHAW does a great job providing treatment and services that focus on goals and aspirations specific to each individual person. The end of the school year is a time of celebration and reflection and as such, award ceremonies were held throughout the Lindenhurst Union Free School District recognizing student academic successes.

Lindenhurst High School recently inducted its newest members into the National Honor Society.

Holding the celebratory lit candles, the inductees streamed into the school’s cafeteria to

Lindy Local Now an Eagle Lindenhurst High School Student James E. Moller has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at his Court of Honor on June 2nd, 2018 held at the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge # 1421 of Lindenhurst.

James is the son of Erik and Robin Moller and the brother of Analiese.

James started out in West Gates Avenue Pack 348, and is grateful for all the support he recieved there, and continued his journey in Pack and Troop # 1421.

To earn the highest rank

of Eagle, a Scout must earn 21 merit badges and organize an Eagle Scout project where they can demonstrate the skills of leadership and community service to an organization other than Boy Scouts.

In his journey to Eagle, James achieved 32 merit badges and earned the Gold and Bronze Eagle Palm awards, he served as Den Chief for other Scouts and Patrol Leader in his own Troop. He had his Ordeal and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow

Shinnecock Lodge 360.

For his Eagle Scout Project he organized safety renovations for the Moose Lodge, inclduing safety handrails, repairs to doorways for the handicapped access and the rebuilding of the podium.

Lindenhurst students participated in the Nassau County Victory Challenge Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged, held recently at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale.

Athletes and student buddies participated in a series of activities and races including the 100-meter race and the discus throw.

Faculty, parents, aides and administrators cheered the athletes as they worked to

participants or observers.

EXIS is a TSA training model used to foster collaboration and communication among both private and public transportation agencies to prevent, plan, protect and respond to violent acts on busses, railroads, and other methods of surface transportation.

During the recent day-long training event, the agencies practiced a number of simulated emergency response scenarios. These included a potentially dangerous device found on a bus and a bus involved in an explosion.

Of Energy and Evolution “The energy of the mind is the essence of life.” ~ Aristotle They say that what you put out into the universe in the form of energy, you receive back tenfold. In some manner, at some point in time, life cycles back around to pay us the karma we are supposedly owed. Most often, this is associated with the negative end of the spectrum; rarely are the positive applications of this theory every truly recognized and appreciated.

I have often looked to those who seem the most consistently content and have wondered what it is that makes them able to sustain such a healthy sense of optimism and an inner peace that radiates outwardly into the universe. Simply put, they are

genuinely happy. They savor those aspects of life which many of us often take for granted. They make it a point to appreciate each and every moment, and to pay it forward in the manner in which they interact with others.

To me, these are the types of individuals we should all strive to surround ourselves with, each and every day. Any opportunity to associate with a positive, breath of fresh air-type persona should be welcomed with open arms; there is no such thing as too much sunshine. In the end, it makes the inevitable storm clouds which manifest along the way that much more tolerable.

Of course, this concept is not so simple as mere happiness by association. True bliss comes from within, as

who we are and who we desire to become slowly transition toward being one and the same. They say people don’t change, but I wholeheartedly disagree with that sentiment.

We each possess a unique capacity to peel back the layers en route to uncovering infinite unknown qualities and characteristics as we continue to evolve over time.

And change we do, each and every day, as our interactions with others, the circumstances we are faced with and our growth as human beings develop. There is no end to this evolution. We are a species built on progress.

Why not begin with our own respective psyches? With a bit a time and effort, perhaps we, too, can one day be worthy of this admiration once only reserved for others.

The next quarterly meeting of the Lindenhurst Historical Society will take place on Wednesday, June 27th, 2018 at the Lindenhurst Memorial Library, 1 Lee Avenue, beginning at 7 p.m.

The election and installation of officers will take place that evening.

Following the business meeting, a program will be presented recognizing the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Lindenhurst Historical Society. Historian Anna Jaeger will share many interesting photos and stories about the evolution of the Society over the years.

The Historical Society reminds all that the Historic Home Museum, 272 South Wellwood Avenue, is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. The 1901 Restored Railroad Depot on South Broadway opens this month on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 2 to 4 p.m. Free guided tours are available at both locations.

Membership in the Lindenhurst Historical Society is open to all interested parties. Yearly dues are $6 and annual membership is $30 per person. Volunteers are needed to cover shifts at

both museum locations.

On Sunday, June 10th, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey attended the Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony for Troop 2014’s Kyle McCarthy.

The ceremony took place at the American Legion Post in Lindenhurst and was attended by the new Eagle Scouts’ parents, friends, elected officials or their representatives, the Suffolk County Police Department’s First Precinct and Troop 2014’s leadership.

Kyle McCarthy, in addition to recently achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, is a wellrounded, communityminded individual. He is a member of the West Babylon Fire Department

and the Suffolk County Police Department’s First Precinct Explorers, a student at St. John’s University and an intern with Legislator McCaffrey’s office.

“It was special being at the Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Kyle McCarthy,” said McCaffrey. “Kyle is a fine young man and is exactly the kind of person we can all be proud of here in the Town of Babylon.

With young people like Kyle, our future continues to be bright.”

An Eagle Scout’s service project is the crowning achievement of a candidate’s journey to Scouting’s highest rank. The project must be one that benefits the

community, in addition to being planned and managed by the candidate.

This process necessarily involves formulating a project idea, determining the required human and material resources and demonstrating unwavering leadership throughout the process.

Kyle’s Eagle Scout Project consisted of planning, organizing and constructing a bench at the Village of Lindenhurst’s 9/11 Memorial Garden First Responder’s Monument. The project is close to Kyle’s heart as a firefighter and also the hearts of people in the community.

Lindenhurst coach Jason Garguilo explained, “We started to trust one another and move the ball and that led us to the championship.”

Lindenhurst also received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship

Award, as determined by the game officials.

Amoroso, a U.S. Soccer Life Member who died in 2016, started the LIJSL Sportsmanship Program in 1980 and it spread around the world.

Lindenhurst will represent the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) at the Regionals from June 29th to July 3rd in Spotsylvania, Virginia as part of the National Championship Series.

The Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk and the Butch Dellecave Foundation recognized the top Suffolk County senior male and female from each school who show excellence in athletics, academics and
