Smithtown Resident Fundraises For Clean, Safe & Reliable Water In Africa

JERSEY MIKE’S DAY OF GIVING - On the afternoon of March 31st, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey took part in Jersey Mike’s Day of Giving! The sub shop, located at 155 West Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst, joined its fellow Suffolk County locations in donating 100% of its sales for the day to Make-A-Wish, which helps create life changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Legislator McCaffrey was joined at the event by store owner and Town of Oyster Bay Councilwoman Laura Maier (left) and store employee Fred Bauer (right). In the spirit of giving, Legislator McCaffrey purchased and hand delivered enough sandwiches to feed his friends at Lindenhurst Village Hall!

There is a water crisis affecting women, children, families and farmers. Every day in rural communities throughout subSaharan Africa, there are millions of people that suffer from a lack of access to clean, safe water. Women and girls there are spending so much time fetching dirty water, which leads to illness and disease.

Globally, 1 in 9 people still have no access to clean water, however, in the communities The Water Project serves, it’s 9 out of 9.

“So many of us are fortunate enough that throughout this pandemic we not only

knew that we should wash our hands often, but we had clean water to do so. That is not reality for everyone.

God has given me so many ways that I can help others! I want to make a change...I feel called to make a change.

I’m excited to see if I can reach my fundraising goal and see where God leads me next. To anyone who will donate to my fundraiser, I thank you so much. It truly means a lot to me to have your support.”

During her last fundraising efforts, Noelle was able to raise thousands of dollars.

Noelle Stanuch is a Smithtown resident who is fundraising for clean, safe and reliable water in sub-Saharan Africa for the second time through The Water Project, a non-profit organization.

This organization provides reliable water projects to communities in sub-Saharan Africa who suffer needlessly from a lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education shall be filed with the Clerk of said School District at her office at the District Administration Office, 350 Daniel Street, Lindenhurst, New York, not later than April 19, 2021, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., prevailing time.

Each petition shall be directed to the Clerk of the District; must be signed by at least 78 qualified voters of the District (representing the greater of 25 qualified voters or 2% of the number of voters who voted in the previous annual election); must state the name and residence of each signer, and, must state the name and residence of the candidate and shall describe the specific vacancy for which the candidate is nominated. Each vacancy upon the Board of Education to be filled shall be considered separate specific vacancies.

A separate nominating petition is required to nominate a candidate to each separate specific office.

The petition shall describe at least the length of the term of office and contain the name of the last incumbent.

AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that personal registration of voters is required either pursuant to §2014 of the Education Law or pursuant to Article 5 of the Election Law. If a voter has heretofore registered pursuant

Why does NY State have such restrictive guidelines for animal hospitals?

We enjoy having you there too.

The NY State government has put detailed guidelines in place for all businesses, not just veterinarians. For example, medical facilities are required to screen patients before admitting them into the facility.

However right now we are required to follow guidelines issued by New York State that state “Curbside intake and pickup of animals should be used, wherever practical, to minimize the numbers of clients in waiting areas and exam rooms.”* Although that creates a lot of extra work for our staff, we are committed to complying with the NY State safety guidelines during the COVID-19 crisis, and to protect our client’s health and safety. *Exceptions can be made in situations like euthanasia

Restrictions are lifted on other things.

By July 2020, restrictions like curbside check-in have helped reduce the number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 in New York State down from over 10,000 a day to below 1,000. At the same time we have seen infections rise dramatically in other states who had fewer restrictions.
