Third Annual Lindenhurst St. Patrick’s Parade

Lindenhurst has the “Luck of the Irish!” March is here and Lindenhurst’s Wellwood Avenue will once again be festively adorned with waving Irish and U.S. flags, and green lights and shamrocks decorating Village Square Park, in preparation for the Third Annual Lindenhurst St. Patrick’s Parade!

The 2024 Parade will take place on Saturday, March 23rd, at 12:00 PM., and will be led by Grand Marshal Kevin J. McCaffrey, Presiding Officer of the Suffolk County Legislature. A resident of Lindenhurst, Presiding Officer McCaffrey began his career in government thirty-four years ago as a Lindenhurst Village Trustee. He has served as a Suffolk County Legislator for the past 10 years, and was twice elected by his peers to serve as Presiding Officer of the Legislature. Still an active member of the Lindenhurst Community, he has chosen the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition & Tunnel to Towers Foundation as the corecipients of the 2024 Parade’s charitable donation.

The Lindenhurst Parade Has Been POSTPONED Until Saturday, March 30th At

The Parade will begin at Lindenhurst Fireman’s Park & Village Park, travel west on Hartford Street, turn south onto Wellwood Avenue, and end at Gates Avenue. Parking near the Parade Start, and along Wellwood Avenue will be restricted on Parade Day, and the cross streets along the parade route will be barricaded starting at approximately 10:00AM.

The Lindenhurst St. Patrick’s Parade was conceived by Parade Committee CoPresidents David Crowe, Proprietor of Lindenhurst’s Belfast Gastropub, and RJ Renna, Lindenhurst Village Trustee. Also on the Parade Committee are Presiding Officer McCaffrey, and Committee Secretary Katie Schrader.

The Average Individual Is Retiring Earlier Than Many People Might Expect

According to a recent Gallup’s Economy and Personal Finance survey, the average individual in the United States is retiring earlier than many people might expect. Gallup found that the average retirement age was 62, which is two years earlier than the working respondents

indicated they planned to retire. Canadians are retiring a little bit later than their American counterparts, as Statistics Canada reports the average retirement age in Canada is just over 63 and a half. The average retirement age is worth noting, as studies routinely find that many working professionals greatest concern about retiring is that they won’t have enough money saved to meet their needs. By recognizing that they may end up retiring earlier than they initially planned, professionals can make a concerted effort to save more money in the years ahead.

Easter Sunday Mass Celebrations

Celebrations of Easter Sunday Mass are known for their joyous nature regardless of where Christians happen to be. But few, if any, celebrations of Mass can match the scope of the celebration in St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the public celebration to be canceled in 2020 and

2021, but it returned in 2022. A sizable number of celebrants returned along with it, as estimates suggested around 50,000 people were on hand to celebrate Easter Sunday Mass on the plaza directly in front of St. Peter’s Basilica on April 17, 2022. Pope Francis led the Mass, which was concelebrated with 280 priests, 25 bishops and

23 cardinals. But the crowd attending Mass was just the beginning, as Pope Francis later delivered his Urbi et Orbi benediction, a papal address and apostolic blessing the pope delivers on solemn occasions, from the loggia of St. Peter’s Basilica before an estimated crowd of 100,000.

Lindenhurst Staff, Students Take Part In ‘Lindy Dollars For Scholars’ Fundraiser

Staff and students in the Lindenhurst Union Free School District are taking part in the Lindy Dollars for Scholars fundraiser. Spearheaded by the District’s mental health team and coordinated by the Lindy Social Workers and the Lindenhurst High School Student Council Club, Lindy Dollars for Scholars raises funds for graduating seniors.

Students decorated donation boxes in Lindenhurst green for use by each building’s staff. Each week, staff members are encouraged to donate $1 or $2 while they check their mailboxes at the school main office where the bins are located. The goal of the fundraiser is to create student, staff and community synergy while raising money for a good cause.

“Just think: If only half of our employees contributed $1 each week, by the end of the year we would be able to provide $12,600 in scholarships to deserving graduating seniors,” said Interim Superintendent Vincent Caravana.

Shoreline Stabilization Project Underway

At Tanner Park In Copiague

Essential Project Expected To Be Completed Over The Next Few Weeks

The Town of Babylon is pleased to announce that a shoreline stabilization capital improvement project is currently underway at Tanner Park in Copiague. Spearheaded by Deputy Supervisor and Parks Chairman, Tony Martinez, the project aims to safeguard the coastline.

The scope of work involves the construction of approximately 386 linear feet of rock revetment, installation of approximately

412 feet of coir logs, and backfilling and planting with native vegetation. This comprehensive approach not only fortifies the shoreline but also contributes to the preservation of local ecology.

“The Tanner Park shoreline stabilization project marks a significant step in our ongoing efforts to protect our coastal assets and recreational areas,” said Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez. “By addressing the erosion issues exacerbated

by events like recent coastal storms, we are ensuring the long-term resilience of our waterfront areas.”

The necessity for this project arose from the erosion that began to undermine the shoreline, particularly evident after Hurricane Sandy. This erosion also impacted the entrance to the Howell Creek canal near Tanner Park Marina. With Suffolk County’s dredging of the channel in 2022, the urgency to stabilize the

area became paramount to prevent further erosion and protect vital infrastructure within Tanner Park.

The Town of Babylon remains committed to proactive measures that prioritize environmental sustainability and community resilience along our south shore. Completion of the Tanner Park shoreline stabilization project is anticipated in the next few weeks.
