Connect With Dad This Father's Day Even If You're Far Away
Father’s Day celebrations are unique to each family. Some gather for a big celebration, while distance may keep others apart. Children who live far from their fathers can still make the holiday special, even if they can’t be with Dad in person this June.
If you’re miles away from a father, grandfather, or stepfather this Father’s Day, there are still meaningful ways to celebrate.
Connect digitally. If you can’t share a meal in person, use video chat apps like Zoom or FaceTime to connect.
Sharing a virtual meal while chatting and laughing can still make the day feel special.
Give gifts that keep on giving. Subscription boxes remain popular, from grilling spices and gourmet coffee to snack boxes and cheese-of-the-month clubs. These gifts offer a
monthly reminder of your appreciation.
Consider virtual experiences. Many shoppers are choosing unique gifts over traditional ones. A virtual whiskey tasting or an online master class you can enjoy together over video call can create lasting memories.
Personalize gifts for Dad. A monogrammed golf bag, custom photo book, or travel gear tied to one of Dad’s hobbies shows extra thought and care.
Plan a trip together. If Father’s Day can’t be spent together, schedule a future outing like a concert, ballgame, or weekend trip centered around one of Dad’s passions.
Distance may affect Father’s Day celebrations, but with some planning and modern gifting ideas, any dad can feel celebrated and loved.
Repeat Customers
Small business owners no doubt recognize the value of repeat customers, but few may recognize just how valuable such customers can be to their bottom lines. A study from researchers at Harvard Business School found that a customer’s eighth purchase was an average of 80 percent higher than his or her first purchase. In addition, a survey from the strategic planning, marketing and sales consultants Altfeld,
Inc. found that the probability of selling to an existing customer is between 60 and 70 percent, while that probability shrinks to as low as 5 percent for new customers. Customer retention strategies like offering superior customer service and seeking input from customers can help small businesses generate more repeat customers, which can greatly improve their chances for long-term success.

Volunteer Opportunity To Help Terrapin Turtles Survive June
20th Survival Day Includes
In an effort to help protect diamondback terrapins, Oyster Bay Town Clerk Richard LaMarca announces that the Town and Friends of the Bay are co-hosting a Terrapin conservation and Beach Cleanup Day on Saturday, June 20th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Centre Island Beach in Bayville.
“The Town of Oyster Bay joined forces with Friends of the Bay to launch ‘Team Terrapin,’ to help protect the Diamondback Terrapin turtle, as this small species lives in fresh or brackish waters in our Town,” said Town Clerk LaMarca. “These turtles, which have distinctive diamond-shaped rings covering their shells, have a near-threatened conservation status and we are working with our environmental partners and local volunteers to help protect this vulnerable species.”
During this Terrapin conservation and Beach Cleanup Day, volunteers will be trained to identify signs of nesting terrapins and briefed on how to collect data. The event features a beach cleanup and tours of nesting sites.
“We feel it is our duty to
protect and bring awareness to this vulnerable and important species that is native to our area and we are inviting volunteers to help us gain a better understanding of the current status of the Oyster Bay diamondback terrapin population,” said Christine Suter, executive director of Friends of the Bay.
Terrapin monitoring will take place for four to six weeks after the event and Team Terrapin volunteers will be encouraged to sign up for half-hour or one-hour monitoring shifts during weekdays and weekends. This is an excellent citizen science opportunity for people of all ages. Community service hours and certificates of participation will be provided upon request.
Terrapins can be found

Aging men and women may be tempted to eschew home cooking entirely. After all, there are plenty of convenient frozen or take-out foods available that can be whipped up in a snap. However, there are certain benefits to cooking your own meals. John Moore, DO, an Aetna medical director and senior health specialist, says that cooking can be good for helping to stave off cognitive decline. Dr. Moore notes that, when cooking, the mind is put to use following a recipe and learning new skills and tasks. Furthermore, cooking for oneself can boost seniors’ selfconfidence, reassuring them that they can handle an important daily task without having to rely on their family for meals. As long as it is deemed safe (i.e., no sign of cognitive decline), seniors should be encouraged to continue cooking.
Take pride in how far you’ve come, have faith in how far you can go and never forget to enjoy the journey!

Diet And Mental Wellness
Nutritious diets have long been touted as essential components of healthy lifestyles. Many people have a tendency to view diet as something that’s purely physical, associating the foods they eat with how they look and how much energy they have. While accurate, it doesn’t paint the full picture of just how big and positive an impact healthy diets can have on overall health. In regard to healthy diets, it’s hard to dispute the effectiveness of the Mediterranean diet. The Mediterranean diet focuses on plantbased foods and, as a result, includes lots of fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, and olive oil. The diet is so healthy that the World Health Organization even recognizes it as a healthy, sustainable dietary pattern.
Listening To Jazz Music
The New Orleans Musicians Clinic reports that listening to jazz music can expand blood vessels by up to 30 percent. Widening of blood vessels increases blood flow and lowers blood pressure. Maintaining a healthy blood pressure is important, as the Mayo Clinic notes that unchecked high blood pressure can lead to complications such as heart attack, stroke, heart failure, and/or dementia.
