YOUNG DEER PARK PERFORMERS SHINE - Deer Park students entering second and third grade from across the district took center stage during this year’s Summer Musical Theater Camp, directed, choreographed and taught by teacher Diana Saparito. “All the students shined on stage,” Saparito said. “I am so proud of how they sang and performed the program in one short week. They have bright futures in the district’s theater programs.” Photo courtesy of Deer Park School District

These two moms opened a spa. It had one big, beautiful effect on the community.

Mery and Sindy always knew they wanted to open a spa to bring beauty to customers. Little did they know it would have the same effect on the community. And Business First was there. We provided $23,000 in grants to help with much-needed renovations so Mery and Sindy could bring their vision to life.* Now, not only does their spa impact clients in a beautiful way, it gives the community an economic lift as well.

Legislator Tom Donnelly Honors Deer Park HS Seniors

Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) recently honored Deer Park High School seniors Arianna Luppy and Giovanna Luppy with his 2026 Citizenship Award.

The Luppy sisters are widely recognized by their teachers and peers as compassionate, hardworking young adults who consistently demonstrate leadership, kindness and a commitment to serving others. Arianna is a valued member of the Best Buddies Club, Varsity Track Team and Patriots Club, and Giovanna serves as President of the Patriots Club and is active in Best Buddies and the Unified Basketball team. Together and individually, they have distinguished themselves through their dedication to promoting inclusion, supporting their fellow students and strengthening Deer Park through school a multitude of community service activities.

The Citizenship Award is annually presented to a high school senior “who goes above and beyond for the school and the community.” This is the first year that the school selected two deserving students to each receive an award.

The twin sisters learned

they were dual recipients of the award during Deer Park High School’s senior awards ceremony on June 4, where Legislator Donnelly, a Deer Park High School graduate himself, honored them with County Proclamations and gifts from the Donnelly family.

“It was especially meaningful to recognize Arianna and Giovanna,

both of whom I have personally witnessed giving back to the community and the school for years, for their outstanding citizenship and service to others,” said Legislator Donnelly. “They continually

demonstrate exceptional character, leadership and compassion, embodying the values the award is intended to celebrate. I congratulate them on this well-deserved recognition and wish them continued success in the future.”

Hope For The Warriors, Robert Half To Host Virtual Career Workshop

In honor of National Hire

a Veteran Day, Hope For The Warriors will host a free virtual career workshop on July 23 with Robert Half to help veterans, service members, and military spouses navigate the civilian job market.

The second workshop of a four-part series, National Hire a Veteran Day, Employer Spotlight Panel, will be hosted on Thursday, July 23, at 11 a.m. EST.

Led by career coaches from Hope For The Warriors and Robert Half, the goal of the interactive workshop is to encourage participant discussion and to discuss the skills civilian companies seek in veteran candidates, how veterans can stand out in a competitive job market, common misconceptions — and how to overcome them.

Representatives from Forward Air, Caliber-Inc., and S&P Global. Employers and more will be on hand to provide hiring and

recruiting perspectives as part of the conversation. Discussion topics may also include:

• What employers look for when hiring veterans and military spouses

• Translating military experience into civilian language

• Resume and applicant tracking system best practices

• Interview strategies

• Networking and building professional relationships

• AI in today’s job search

• Common hiring misconceptions

• Career readiness and standing out in a competitive job market

During registration, participants are invited to submit career and employment questions. The session is intended to be conversational rather than presentation-based, allowing attendees to engage directly with Hope

For The Warriors, Robert Half, and participating employer representatives.

As a part of Hope For The Warriors’ Warriors’ Compass transition program, the free, virtual career workshop series provides training to help prepare those in the military landscape for a job search in today’s civilian climate. The

workshops offer tools and tips, as well as opportunities to network with other service members, military spouses, and companies committed to hiring those with military backgrounds.

“The National Hire a Veteran Day, Employer Spotlight Panel workshop gives members of the military community direct

access to an interactive discussion with employers who understand the value of military experience and can speak to what companies are looking for in today’s hiring environment,” said Brian Papakie, director of transition services and life roles for Hope For The Warriors and a retired U.S. Marine. As the nation celebrates 250 years of military service and sacrifice, National Hire a Veteran Day provides a meaningful opportunity to recognize the continued contributions veterans make to today’s workforce and to encourage employers and job seekers to engage in open dialogue about successful career transitions.

Hope For The Warriors and Robert Half will host two more free workshops in 2026: Thursday, Sept. 17, will discuss applicant tracking systems and how to get seen; and Thursday, Nov. 19, will

cover salary negotiation and compensation confidence. To register for the free, virtual career workshops, visit hopeforthewarriors. org.

Town Of Babylon To Host 19th Annual Babylon Soldier Ride

The Town of Babylon will host its 19th Annual Babylon Soldier Ride on Thursday, July 23, beginning with a special opening ceremony at 9 a.m. at Babylon Town Hall in Lindenhurst.

Long Island Seniors Invited To “Yoga In The Garden”

On July 30 Free Outdoor Wellness Program Promotes Physical and Cognitive Health

The AFA Barbara Rabinowitz Education & Resource Center invites Long Island seniors to “Yoga in the Garden,” a free outdoor wellness program designed to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The event takes place at the Center (149 Schleigel Boulevard, Amityville) on July 30 at 11 am. Those wishing to participate should register by calling the Center at 631-223-4000. No prior yoga experience is needed.

Participants in this hour-long program will perform a variety of simple, seated yoga poses and stretches as shown by the instructor.

Seated yoga offers a safe and accessible way to encourage movement, increase body awareness, and foster social engagement.

Yoga is widely recognized for its

many health benefits. Regular practice can help reduce stress, improve flexibility and balance, strengthen muscles, enhance posture, and encourage relaxation. Deep breathing and mindful movement may also support improved mood, better sleep, and overall well-being.

“Yoga in the Garden” and all activity programs at the AFA Barbara Rabinowitz Education & Resource Center are dementia-friendly; therapists adapt directions and movements based on the abilities of the group participants, including people living with dementia.

Register for the free ‘Yoga in the Garden” program on July 30 at the AFA Barbara Rabinowitz Education & Resource Center by calling the Center at 631-223-4000.

The ceremony will honor the wounded veterans participating in the ride and recognize the community members, organizations, and supporters who have helped make the annual event a success. Town officials, representatives from the Wounded Warrior Project, and local community leaders will offer remarks before the riders begin their journey.

A highlight of this year’s ceremony will be the presentation of more than $200,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project—the largest donation in the history of the Babylon Soldier Ride. The event will also recognize the ride’s top fundraisers and include a blessing of the riders.

For 19 years, the Town of Babylon has proudly partnered with the Wounded Warrior Project to host Babylon Soldier Ride, raising critical funds to support programs and services for wounded veterans. This year’s event marks a historic milestone, with the Town presenting its largest donation ever—more than $200,000—to the organization. A portion of the proceeds will also benefit SkyHope, a Farmingdale-based nonprofit that provides free air transportation for military personnel, veterans and their families. Babylon Soldier Ride continues to unite veterans,

residents, businesses, first responders, and community organizations in support of those who have sacrificed in service to our nation.

Scheduled participants include Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, members of the Babylon Town Board, Walt Piatt, Chief Executive Officer of Wounded Warrior Project, Juan Valdez, a Wounded Warrior Project alumnus and retired U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Donna Collins, Executive Director of SkyHope, Risa Price, Director of Operations for SkyHope, Pastor Marc Herbst of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Saffron United Pipe Band, and wounded veterans participating in the 2026 Babylon Soldier Ride.

Deer Park students entering second and third grade from across the district took center stage during this year’s Summer Musical Theater Camp, directed, choreographed and taught by teacher Diana Saparito.

Throughout the weeklong program, students learned songs, choreography and performance skills before presenting an entertaining showcase for family and friends titled “We Are Growing.”

“Change in Me” (from “Beauty and the Beast”) and “Revolting Children” (from “Matilda”).

The performance featured selections from popular musicals including “Brand New You” (from “13”), “Hard Knock Life” (from “Annie”),

“All the students shined on stage,” Saparito said. “I am so proud of how they sang and performed the program in one short week. They have bright futures in the district’s theater programs.”
