The U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) offers homeowners the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit, a fantastic opportunity to save money while making your home more eco-friendly. You can claim a tax credit of up to $3,200 for qualified energy-efficient improvements installed on or after January 1, 2023. So, what does this mean for you? In simple terms, for every dollar you spend on qualified energy-efficient improvements, you can reduce your tax liability, up to the specified limit. Exterior doors that meet applicable standards can qualify for the energy tax credit. You can claim 30% of the project cost, up to $250 per door, with a total limit of $500. External Diploma Program

The National External Diploma Program offers adults 21 and over, the opportunity to receive credit for their life experiences, and earn a high school equivalency diploma without the challenge of taking lengthy timed examinations. NEDP, is a competency based program for students who are unable to attend classes or who prefer to work at home. Successful candidates for NEDP include former ESL students, students who have been out of school for prolonged periods of time, or students who fare better without the structure of tests. This program is an alternative to other programs.

New York State Assemblyman Michael Durso, in partnership with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, is holding a Senior Medical ID Card program on Wednesday, July 19th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the West Islip Public Library located

at 3 Higbie Lane in West Islip. The program is free and open to Suffolk County residents 50 years old and older.

The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office Medical ID Cards assist seniors or those with medical needs to keep all required medical

WORK-BASED LEARNING CORE PROGRAM - East Islip High School students and mentors involved in the district’s work-based learning CORE program were honored at the board of education’s June 7 meeting.

2023 COSMETOLOGY GRADS ALL EARN STATE LICENSE - One hundred percent of Islip High School’s cosmetology seniors in the Class of 2023 received their New York State license in cosmetology, a rare and impressive occurrence. Guided by teachers Mercedes Cipkin and Lorraine Knoblauch, the students passed both the practical and the written exams with stunning results. “This was the most dedicated, hardworking group since the induction of this program at Islip,” Knoblauch said.

2023 Sandcastle Contest To Be Held At Hither Hills State Park

New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce the 2023 Sandcastle Contest at Hither Hills State Park. The contest will be held each Thursday through August 31, 2023 . Sand sculptors may use sand, water, and any other natural materials native to the beach.

Prizes are provided by the Natural Heritage Trust, the program’s sponsor. Each week’s prizes will be awarded for the best sculptors and castles in several categories.

Registration is held each Thursday 9:30AM at Hither Hills State Park Visitors Center. A $10.00 Vehicle Use Fee will be in effect.

King Kullen Helps Fund Summer Camp Programs For Disadvantaged Long Island Children

King Kullen Grocery Co., Inc., has donated $10,000 to benefit summer camp programs for disadvantaged children in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, a tradition begun by King Kullen more than three decades ago. The donation will be divided evenly between Family & Children’s Association

(Nassau County) and Family Service League (Suffolk County).

“Camp provides a stimulating and fun environment where children can learn new activities and meet other children their age,” observed King Kullen President and Chief Operating Officer Joseph W. Brown. “King Kullen’s

gift will help fund scholarships for children whose families lack the resources for summer camp. Additionally, customers who want to make a difference can participate in our annual ‘Send A Kid to Camp’ campaign this summer by scanning $5, $2, or $1 coupons at the register at all King Kullen and Wild

by Nature stores.”

Family and Children’s Association President and CEO Jeffrey Reynolds stated, “The gifts we receive from individuals and corporations like King Kullen make it possible for us to provide these wonderful experiences for Long Island’s young people. We thank King Kullen for

Family Service League Division Director Robyn Berger-Gaston added, “We are very grateful to again receive this generous donation from King Kullen. These camps are often the highlight of the year for the children we help.”

Islip High School Celebrates Its 98th Annual Graduation

Islip High School proudly celebrated its 98th annual graduation ceremony on June 23, a momentous occasion that showcased the accomplishments of the Class of 2023 and provided a platform to honor their hard work and dedication, not only over the past four years, but for their entire educational journey in Islip.

The graduation ceremony began with a grand procession as the Class of 2023, as they were serenaded by the Islip High School wind ensemble/ concert band, conducted by Steven Campanella. They made their way onto the field to the classic tune of “Pomp and Circumstance.” The seniors were filled with excitement and anticipation as they eagerly took their positions.

Kacey Schaasberger, and Student Union Vice President Kayley Guzman Morales extended a warm welcome to all attendees. The patriotic spirit soared as seniors Ella Beiser and Liana Rivera delivered a captivating rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” evoking a sense of pride and unity among the graduates, faculty and guests.

During the ceremony, board of education trustee Danielle Flora took a moment to recognize the remarkable achievements of the Class of 2023. Salutatorian Nelson Chan delivered an eloquent address, reflecting on the journey of the graduating class and expressing gratitude to their teachers, parents and mentors who supported them throughout their high

school years.

“First and foremost, I would like to congratulate each and every one of my fellow graduates sitting here today for their incredible journey through Islip High School,” Chan said. “You have all worked tirelessly to overcome countless obstacles while pushing yourselves beyond your limits, sacrificing countless hours to reach this very moment.”

Principal Dr. Lara Gonzalez followed with heartfelt words, offering well wishes to the Class of 2023 as they embark on new adventures and reminding them to cherish their connection to Islip.

“Your departure is bittersweet for us,” Gonzalez said. “As excited as we are for you, we’re going to miss you in our classrooms, hallways,

on our fields and in our performance spaces. Yet we look forward to our next phase of our relationship with you…as alums of the storied Islip High School.”

Next, attendees were treated to a breathtaking performance by senior Ma’Raya Stewart, who astounded everyone with her rendition of “Stand by Me.”

Valedictorian Connor Autera encouraged his fellow graduates to stay true to themselves as they navigate the challenges and triumphs of the future. His words resonated deeply, reminding everyone that as long as they remain authentic, they can overcome any obstacle that comes their way.

“Just be you,” Autera said. “Everyone wanted

to be normal and to fit in. However, realizing I’m not normal is the best discovery I’ve ever made. I reformed from normal, and I have so many friends and am so happy. Just be you and you’ll grow.”

Superintendent Dr. Dennis O’Hara presented the graduating Class of 2023, acknowledging their accomplishments and highlighting their potential for success in the years ahead. He also spotlighted those in the graduating class who will be serving their country in the military moving forward.

“You were raised in a fantastic community and are now Islip High School graduates,” Dr. O’Hara said. “You’re poised for rewarding and fulfilling

things ahead. As you prepare to take your place in a long, purple line of Islip High School graduates, your responsibility from this point forward is to use your agile minds, bold ideas and unlimited potential to show the world what bright looks like and what it means to be from Islip.”

Members of the board of education joined in the celebration by personally presenting each graduate with their well-earned diplomas. The ceremony reached its climax as the graduates, filled with jubilation and a sense of accomplishment, threw their caps high into the air. With the symbolic gesture, they bid farewell to their high school years and embraced the promising future that lies ahead.
