An Islip graduate and resident, Jenn has a BA in Early Childhood Education in both general and special education and a Masters in Literacy. The Nassau Pops Symphony Orchestra Announces 2022 Summer Concert Series

Panacciulli, and the Nassau Pops Symphony Orchestra as they bring you the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein, George Gershwin, Leroy Anderson, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Duke Ellington, and others. Local favorites, vocalists Jack and Ann Cassin, will also join the orchestra. The Nassau Pops Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1984 by Managing Director Dawn Manuel and Music Director

Based in the Village of Mineola, the orchestra has been featured with many prestigious entertainers and maintains afﬁliations with Nassau Community College and the Mineola Choral Society with seasonal performances at Chaminade High School. They are more than just pets; these animals provide emotional support and tasks for these heroes when it is needed most,”

said Kelli Porti, Veteran & Community Outreach Liaison for Paws of War. Dr. Marissa Altieri, DVM, volunteered her expert veterinary care to the popup clinic and its patients, donating her time to assist Paws of War as a way to give back to the community and support the non-proﬁt’s mission. The mobile veterinary clinic is a continual program hosted by Paws of War that gives back to service men and women by providing free veterinary care for their service animals; their wellness is essential in providing their exceptional service to their owners who are U.S. military veterans suffering from the emotional effects of war. Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York (Little Flower) is a human services organization that has been around for 93 years. It transforms caring into action to deliver services, programs and direction to improve the lives of children and families in crisis and people with developmental disabilities across New York City and Long Island.

Little Flower prides itself on adapting and innovating to address the unmet needs of those in its community by enhancing current programs and services or developing new ones. They have been able to do that by partnering with individuals, businesses and community partners through special events like their Annual Golf Outing! This year they will celebrate their 25th Annual Golf Outing on September 12, 2022 at Engineers Country Club in Roslyn. Guests in attendance will enjoy a day of golf, breakfast, BBQ lunch, a cocktail and networking hour, along with an inspiring program. Little Flower will honor the past and promise for the future with honoree Grace Lo Grande, former Little Flower Executive Director, and special guests, such as former foster youth, now Little Flower Board member, Bianca Buckridee. Grace served the organization for 19 years, seeing it through growth and transformation, witnessing ﬁrsthand the tremendous impact made by Little Flower’s essential staff on thousands of children, families and people with developmental or intellectual disabilities. Bianca has the unique experience of Little Flower through the client lens, having received services as a child in foster care. She credits the social workers who worked with her as a young adult with helping her see past foster care and her potential for the future. She has supported the organization over the years and recently was elected a member of their Board of Directors.

Summer brings rest, relaxation and fun, but it can also be a time of increased risk for our hearts. Extreme heat[1] may increase incidents of cardiac arrest and an average of 33 drownings occur in the U.S. each day, one-third of which are fatal.[2] Knowing cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR could be the key to saving someone from cardiac arrest or drowning. CPR, especially if performed immediately, could double or triple a cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival.[3] The American Heart Association is reminding people about the importance of staying safe and prepared this summer. Each year, more than 350,000 out-ofhospital cardiac arrests (OHCA) [4] occur in the United States and fewer than half of these people receive the immediate help that they need before professional help arrives.[5] The American Heart Association, the world’s leading voluntary organization dedicated to building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke, is working to increase the number of bystanders who use CPR in an emergency. As summertime activities increase the exposure of people of all ages to risks, it’s even more

important to be trained on CPR. You could be saving the life of someone you love. A simple one-minute video (https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=M4ACYp75mjU) shows you what you need to know to perform Hands Only CPR. To be ready for a safe summer, the American Heart Association recommends the following: • Learn CPR. For drowning, the American Heart Association recommends rescue breaths along with compressions. • Remember Life Jackets. Half of all boating deaths could be prevented with their use.[6] • Learn to Swim. Drowning is the second-leading cause of death in children between ages 1 and 4.[7] • Family Safety Plan. It’s important for everyone in the family to be trained in CPR. • Secure the Pool. Install fencing with self-closing gates at least 4 feet high to separate the pool from house and yard.[8] • Teach Safety. Talk about risky behavior such as diving or swimming in unfamiliar water, and alcohol or drug use while in or near water. • Clear Out Pool Toys. Make sure children aren’t tempted to play unsupervised.
