Noelle Stanuch is a Smithtown resident who is fundraising for clean, safe and reliable water in sub-Saharan Africa for the second time through The Water Project, a non-profit organization.

This organization provides reliable water projects to communities in sub-Saharan Africa who suffer needlessly from a lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation. For each gift you make to The Water Project, you will eventually receive a report that details the technology used, the location of the effort, the number of people it serves and photographs of the process and completed water project.

don’t take what I have for granted,” Noelle said. “There is a real issue in today’s society.

We tend to not think about what we don’t live around or what we don’t see often. There are so many people suffering around the world and we need to help them.”

There is a water crisis affecting women, children, families and farmers. Every day in rural communities throughout subSaharan Africa, there are millions of people that suffer from a lack of access to clean, safe water. Women and girls there are spending so much time fetching dirty water, which leads to illness and disease.

Globally, 1 in 9 people still have no access to clean water, however, in the communities The Water Project serves, it’s 9 out of 9.

“So many of us are fortunate enough that throughout this pandemic we not only

knew that we should wash our hands often, but we had clean water to do so. That is not reality for everyone.

God has given me so many ways that I can help others! I want to make a change...I feel called to make a change.

Please join St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School’s “Showers of Kindness” in honor of Mother’s Day. “Showers of Kindness” is a collection of new baby items to be donated to the families served by The Brentwood Health Center. This center is one of 42 Health Centers run by Sun River Health on Long Island, NYC, and the Hudson Valley that serve those in our community that have little or no health insurance. Quite often there is a language barrier or the reluctance of their patients to seek any medical care. The moms they serve are often at the lower end of the economic spectrum and are in dire need of items for their

newborns and toddlers.

Mr. Biagio M. Arpino, Principal, is delighted that the students are taking the initiative in this endeavor, and that they are eager to share what they have been taught while at St. John’s – mainly, Christian values of assisting those in need.

Beginning the week of April 19th, St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School, in partnership with their Student Council, will kick off “Showers of Kindness”. Suggested items are listed below. All items must be new and in original packaging.

Key Club Helps Community East Islip High School’s Key Club assisted the Kiwanis Club of the IslipsBay Shore in holding a clothing drive during January and February.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo recently announced the Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach State Park will return this Memorial Day weekend after a one-year absence. The outdoor show, sponsored by Bethpage Federal Credit Union, features a range of military and civilian aerial performers. This year’s show will be a ticketed event, with reduced capacity and social distancing measures in place to ensure a safe return of the patriotic Long Island beachfront tradition.

“As we continue to see progress in our fight against COVID and cautiously reopen our state, we can look forward to enjoying more and more outdoor adventures this summer - including the annual Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach State Park,” Governor Cuomo said. “With safety measures in place, New Yorkers and visitors can get back to enjoying all that Jones Beach and Long Island State Parks have to offer, and this annual festival is a great way to get outdoors and support the regional Long Island economy.”

The Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach, one of the most popular events on Long Island, was canceled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Its return this year brings back a Memorial Day weekend tradition that celebrates the beginning of summer at Long Island’s beaches, and honors military families and those who serve our country.

This year’s show features the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, the United States Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt (Warthog), United States Army Golden Knights U.S. Army parachute team, and United States Coast Guard Search and Rescue team, as well as many other worldclass civilian performers. The Bethpage Air Show will take place Friday, May 28, (Practice show); Saturday, May 29, and Sunday, May 30, 2021 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. each day.

East Islip Seniors Commemorate Their Class With Tiles

With the consolidation of cohorts and the return to full-time in-person instruction, East Islip High School students arrived back at school on Feb. 3 to see the school’s new Senior Hallway decorated with their All About Me posters, a senior banner filled with signatures, and numerous “welcome back” messages from the staff.

The Class of 2021 hosted a socially distanced fundraiser on Feb. 4 in hopes of adding some personal flair to the Senior Hallway. At the event, each senior was provided with a ceiling tile that they were able to paint and decorate to commemorate their time as a student in East Islip. The students were able to paint together in the cafeteria, listening to music

while sharing memories and laughs. The personalized ceiling tiles were then placed in the ceiling of the Senior Hallway.

“We were thrilled to see so many students take part in decorating this hallway and can’t wait to see what else the seniors come up with,” said Marissa Quigley, who serves as senior class adviser along with Kate Boucher.
