ISLIP WRESTLERS FIND SUCCESS AT COUNTY AND STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS - Islip High School’s varsity wrestling squad ended a super season with a fine showing at the county championships, boasting two Suffolk County champions and sending three wrestlers to states. Seniors Tom Andria (in the 160-pound category) and Matt Hole (152 pounds) finished first at the county tournament, held Feb. 13 at Bay Shore High School, while sophomore Zack Miller (138 pounds) placed second; all three earned All-County designation. Junior Juan Pantaleon (285 pounds) earned fourth place. At the New York State Wrestling Championships, held at MVP Arena in Albany on Feb. 25-26, Andria finished in sixth place, while both Hole and Miller earned eighth place in their weight categories. services to teens and their families at the beginning stages of their alcohol or drug experimentation or abuse. Psychoeducation and skill building is offered through individual, family and group services which aim to prevent the devastating, lifelong effects of addiction.

The opioid epidemic has highlighted that all ages, socio-economic backgrounds, and all communities can be profoundly vulnerable to addiction. YES Community Counseling Center has been providing both addiction treatment and prevention services for the past three decades with the understanding that the needs of each individual is uniquely different and therefore, treatment must also be individualized and utilize a variety of approaches.

YES Community Counseling Center’s addiction treatment services are comprehensive and approaches are based upon the developmental stage and readiness of each individual. Under the supervision of the agency’s Medical Director, specializes in evidence based services which are available for adolescents, young adults, adults and family members, including: •Adolescent Family Program (AFP) •Young Adult groups •Impaired driver evaluations and treatment •Moral Reconation Therapy for those who are legally involved (MRT) •Recovery groups •Trauma focused therapies •Parent and signiﬁcant other support groups •Educational groups

It is also understood that most often, family members are deeply affected by addiction and require support and well as an understanding the complexities of the disease and how to support a loved one through their recovery. Early education about addiction is critical along with early interventions that build individual, family and community protective factors to reduce the likelihood of young people resorting to substances to cope with life’s challenges. In light of marijuana legalization, it is so important that parents learn the detrimental effects of all substances on the developing brain. In addition to prevention services within the local schools and community, YES CCC offers early intervention

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that the 29th annual Spring Egg Hunt at Belmont Lake State Park will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022, from 12:00pm2:00pm. There is no rain date for this event. The egg hunts will take place on the open field and will begin at 12:15pm. Additional hunts will occur at 15-minute intervals with the last one at 1:45pm. The hunts will be divided into three age categories: ages 4 & under; ages 5 & 6 and ages 7-9. There is a 3-egg limit per child per hunt to ensure everyone goes home with a special treat. Please bring a small bag or basket for your child to put their eggs in. In addition to the egg hunt, there will be food vendors and free children’s activities including a petting zoo, pony rides, educational display by the Environmental Department, funny photos,

and an inflatable bounce (weather permitting). You can also visit and take pictures with the Spring Bunny. This event is co-sponsored by radio stations WBAB (102.3FM) and WBLI (106.1FM), Royal Events, NY Life, College Hunks, Ghost Busters, Long Island Suffolk Center for Speech, Catholic Health, and the Natural Heritage Trust. Virtual Enterprise is a simulated course that allows aspiring entrepreneurs to create their own corporation and experience how an actual business works. Pal-O-Mine Equestrian, Inc. , a private, not for profit organization providing a comprehensive therapeutic equine program using horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for children and adults with disabilities, has launched a new program for children ages 2-5 years. The Barnyard Buddies Program is a hands-on learning program which involves Pal-O-Mine’s therapy animals. It is facilitated by experienced and licensed educational and healthcare professionals who will use an experiential approach to learning. Its unique, age-appropriate curriculum includes social-emotional, physical, cognitive, and imaginative concepts and activities such as expressive art projects. Additionally, it incorporates focused exposure to pre-reading/ reading, mathematics, and

problem-solving skills. Children enjoy learning in Pal-O-Mine’s naturalistic learning environment full of positive support. Children of all levels of abilities are welcome. The Barnyard Buddies program consists of four sessions held once a week on Tuesday mornings at Pal-O-Mine Equestrian, 829 Old Nichols Road, Islandia, NY. Session dates are April 26th, May 3rd, May 10th and May 17th. Each session is 90-minutes long and begins at 9:30 AM and ends at 11:00 AM. Sessions are limited to a maximum of ten children. One parent or caregiver must accompany each child. The fee for the fourweek program is $150 per child and must be paid in full prior to the first session. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted and there is a 3.25% processing fee on credit card transactions. To learn more or enroll your child

11th Annual All Kids Fair Has Many Exciting Activity Areas Families across Long Island cannot wait for the All Kids Fair’s first in-person event since before Covid-19. The 11th annual All Kids Fair will be on Sunday, April 3, from 10-4:30, at Samanea New York Mall, formerly The Source Mall, at 1504 Old Country Road in Westbury. Since 2011, the All Kids Fair has been a fun day each April for kids and their families to spend time together and also learn about Long Island-based companies with services and products for them. Many of these are provided by sponsor Clowns. com. According to Barbara Kaplan, director of the expo, “every year, this fabulous children’s expo has many draws for Long Island families,

and this year will be no different.” The All Kids Fair will have over 70 vendors, including camps, places to play, after-school activities, birthday party providers, and college planning. This fun-filled event offers exciting educational and leisure activities to interest kids and their families each year. The Fair has opportunities for all ages, including kids who have special needs. Families can interact inperson with exhibitors in a huge space, with vendors set further apart and with the activity areas in designated open areas rather than in breakout rooms.
