Junior Gymnast Sophia Pepe Competes At States

Pet Food Drive For Baxter’s Pet Pantry

Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) is pleased to again join Long Island Cares and help it “rain food for cats and dogs” by hosting a pet food drive now through the end of May.

Legislator Donnelly’s district office is serving as a drop-off location for the 13th Legislative Pet Food Drive where much-needed pet food and supplies will be collected to benefit Baxter’s Pet Pantry of Long Island Cares (www.licares. org). In previous years, constituents of the 17th Legislative District have

generously donated to this annual drive.

All donations go directly to Baxter’s Pantry. While 5 and 10 pound bags of dog and cat food, canned food, kitty litter and new pet toys are most needed, all pet nourishments are welcome including food for hamsters, fish, birds and ferrets.

Items may be dropped off at Legislator Donnelly’s District Office, located at 130 West Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station, Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm until May 31. As per health code

Easter Egg Coloring Tips

Coloring Easter eggs is a time-honored tradition dating back more than 2,500 years. There is evidence that people living in the ancient settlement of Trypillia dyed eggs. Ancient Persians also were believed to paint eggs for Nowruz (Persian New Year).

Christians adopted similar traditions to symbolize aspects of the Easter story. Originally Christians dyed eggs red to represent the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed on the cross, according to Chase Oaks Church.

Yellow represented the resurrection, blue represented love and red remained a symbol of Christ’s blood. Whether families dye eggs to symbolize the Easter miracle or simply for fun, the following are some coloring tips to enhance the process.

1. Prevent cracked eggs. Most colored eggs are hard-boiled. To prevent cracking during the boiling process, add a

teaspoon of vinegar and a tablespoon of salt to the boiling water. Additional anti-cracking measures include rubbing half a lemon on each shell before boiling.

2. Boil eggs and cool completely. It takes roughly 10 minutes to hard-boil an egg. Fill a pot with enough water to submerge the eggs, then bring it to a boil over medium-high heat. Gently lower the eggs into the water with a slotted spoon. Cover, reduce the heat to a simmer, and cook for 10 minutes. Drain the eggs and cool in a bowl of

water or run under cold tap water.

3. Don’t forget the vinegar. Whether you use colored dye tablets or drops of food coloring from the pantry, use a mix of water and vinegar in the coloring solution. According to Education. com, food coloring is an acid dye and bonds using hydrogen. This chemical process only works in an acidic environment. Vinegar is added to water to make it more acidic and help the dyes adhere more strongly to the eggs and produce brighter colors.

4. Stick to white

eggs. Stores sell both brown and white eggs. The species of chicken determines whether the eggs will be white or brown. When coloring eggs, it might be better to purchase white eggs, as the dyes will show up more vividly on the white shells.

5. Create distinctive designs. By covering portions of the bare eggs before dipping into color, people can create unique designs. Things like masking tape, rubber bands, wax (or crayons), and even twine can be used. The dye will only take on the uncovered

areas, leaving white behind.

6. Dyes are not the only way to color eggs. Everything from watercolor paint to acrylics to decoupage can be used to cover eggs in vivid colors. Egg decorators also can use colored yarns, fabric or stickers. Search for creative materials to set Easter eggs apart this year.

State Senator Martinez Announces Small Business Administration

Disaster Loan Outreach Center Opens In Babylon

Monica R. Martinez is welcoming the opening of a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)

Disaster Loan Outreach Center in Babylon. The center is located at Babylon Town Hall and will assist

constituents from across the Fourth Senatorial District who suffered losses as a result of the January 9-10, 2024 storm that impacted the region with heavy rain, high winds, and coastal flooding.

Representatives of the SBA

will assist eligible residents and businesses in Suffolk and Nassau Counties who suffered economic losses as a result of the storm to apply for low-interest loans. Those who can apply include businesses, homeowners, renters, and private nonprofit organizations. They must be in a declared disaster area and meet other eligibility criteria depending on the type of loan. The types of disaster loans available are:

The Babylon Town Hall Disaster Loan Outreach Center is located at 200 Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst and will open to the public.

The site’s hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

The filing deadline to return applications for physical property damage is May 10, 2024, and December 11, 2024, for economic injury applications.

SE DA AVISO ADICIONAL que la votación se llevará a cabo sobre la siguiente propuesta:

PROPUESTA

Si se adoptase la siguiente resolución:

SE RESUELVE, que se apruebe el Presupuesto como fue propuesto por la Junta Directiva de la Biblioteca Pública de East Islip de la Ciudad de Islip, Condado de Suffolk, Nueva York, para el año 2024/2025 en la cantidad de $4,253,950.00 para ser aprobada y que, por lo tanto, se aplique el impuesto necesario sobre la propiedad imponible del Distrito Escolar de East Islip.

SE DA AVISO ADICIONAL que la elección de un (1) miembro de la Junta Directiva de la Biblioteca Pública de East Islip se llevará a cabo a la misma hora y lugar. Un Fideicomisario será elegido por un período de tiempo completo de cinco (5) años de comenzando el 1 de julio del 2024 hasta el 30 de junio de 2029, el último titular de dicho cargo es Joseph Gabriel, Jr.

SE DA AVISO ADICIONAL que los candidatos para el cargo de fideicomisario de la Biblioteca Pública de East Islip tendrán que ser nominados por medio de petición. La petición para el cargo de Fideicomisario de la Biblioteca Pública de East Islip debe de ser dirigida al Secretario del Distrito Escolar del Distrito Escolar Union Libre de East Islip; deberá ser firmada por lómenos por veinticinco (25) votantes calificados del Distrito Escolar, deberá revelar el domicilio de cada firmante, el nombre y el domicilio del candidato nominado para el cargo de Fideicomisario de la Biblioteca Pública de East Islip y deberá describirá el vacante especificado en la Junta de Fideicomisarios para la cual el candidato está nominado; cuya descripción deberá incluir, como mínimo, la duración del mandato y el nombre del último titular. Cada petición será presentada ante el Secretario del Distrito Escolar a más tardar a las 5:00 p.m., hora prevaleciente, el miércoles 6 de marzo del 2024

SE DA AVISO ADICIONAL que, de conformidad con la Sección 2014 de la Ley de Educación, se requiere el registro personal de los votantes y ninguna persona tendrá derecho a votar en dicha reunión ni elección si el nombre aun no aparece en el registro de dicho Distrito Escolar, o que no se

registre como se establece a continuación, a no ser que las Leyes del Estado de Nueva York dispongan de algo diferente. El registro como preparado incluye a todas las personas que se hayan presentado personalmente para el registro de conformidad con el presente, y todas las personas que hayan votado en cualquier Reunión Anual o Elección, celebrada o realizada en cualquier momento dentro de los cuatro (4) años anteriores a la preparación del registro. SE DA AVISO ADICIONAL que la Junta de Registro del Distrito Escolar Union Libre de East Islip se reunirá en la Biblioteca Pública de East Islip el jueves, 21 de marzo del 2024 entre las horas de las 3:00 p.m. y las 7:00 p.m., hora prevaleciente, momento en el cual la Junta de Registro preparará el registro del Distrito Escolar, y cualquier persona tendrá derecho a que su nombre sea colocado en dicho registro, siempre que en dicha reunión de la Junta de Registro se sepa que el, o demuestre a satisfacción de la Junta de Registro, tener derecho a votar en ese momento o en lo sucesivo en la reunión para la que se prepara dicho registro. El registro preparado se archivará en la oficina del Secretario del Distrito Escolar y estará abierto para inspección por cualquier votante calificado del Distrito en cada uno de los cinco (5) días anteriores al día fijado para la reunión entre las horas de 9:00 a.m. a 4:00 p.m., hora prevaleciente, excepto los sábados, cuando puede ser inspeccionado entre las 10:00 a.m. y el mediodía, hora prevaleciente, por medio de cita, y no los domingos.

SE DA AVISO ADICIONAL que las solicitudes de boletas de voto ausente o boletas anticipadas por correo para la elección de los Fideicomisarios de la Biblioteca y la votación sobre el Presupuesto se pueden hacer en la oficina del Secretario del Distrito Escolar. Dicha solicitud debe ser recibida por el Secretario del Distrito Escolar pero no antes de 30 días antes del día de la votación y por lo menos siete (7) días antes del día de la votación, si la boleta debe de ser enviada por correo al votante, o para el día anterior al día de la votación si la boleta debera de ser entregada personalmente al votante. las personas a las que se les habrán emitido boletas de voto en ausencia o por correo anticipado estará disponible en la oficina del Secretario del Distrito Escolar en cada uno de los cinco (5) días anteriores al día de la votación, con excepción del sábado y el domingo. SE DA AVISO ADICIONAL que la Junta Directiva de la Biblioteca Pública de East Islip llevará a cabo una Audiencia de Información Presupuestaria, el jueves 21 de marzo del 2024 en la Biblioteca Pública de East Islip, 381 East Main Street,

East Islip, Nueva York, a las 5:30 p.m., hora prevaleciente.

SE DA AVISO ADICIONAL que las siguientes regulaciones estarán vigentes para la Reunión Especial del Distrito para la Biblioteca Pública de East Islip que se llevará a cabo el 4 de abril de 2024.

1. Identificación y número de observadores electorales Se requerirá que los observadores electorales se identifiquen ante el Secretario del Distrito Escolar no menos de setenta y dos (72) horas antes de la elección, momento en el cual se les proporcionará una etiqueta de identificación que indique “Observador Electoral”. Dichos observadores electorales previamente identificados deberán registrarse con el Secretario del Distrito Escolar o su designado al llegar al lugar de votación. Se permitirá un (1) observador electoral por cada distrito electoral por organización en cualquier momento dado. Ningún candidato puede actuar como observador electoral.

2. Cabinas de votación No se permitirá que los observadores electorales se encuentren detrás de las cabinas de votación en ningún momento durante el horario de votación.

3. Ubicación de los observadores electorales

Se designará un área con una vista completa de las urnas para los observadores electorales.

4. Recuento final de votos Después de la grabación de la votación por parte del Secretario del Distrito Escolar y los inspectores electorales, los observadores electorales tendrán oportunidad para ver los totales de la votación.
