In addition to figure skating, there will be other holiday themed activities including an exhibition hockey game between the Elves and the Reindeer, which are two teams with players from the Town of Oyster Bay Tot Hockey program. And the star of the season, Santa Claus, will make his annual visit to the Ice Skating Center.

Santa will skate a lap or two around the rink and then will be available to visit with children and take pictures afterwards. The Holiday on Ice Show has become a big attraction at the Town’s Ice Skating Center.

The Ice Skating Center, which for many years has been named as “A Best of Long Island” award winner, features a pro shop for shoppers seeking a gift for hockey players and figure skaters on their lists.

puppy. Every single year, the same thing. When that didn’t happen, I switched to a trip to Disney World to “meet Mickey & Minnie Mouse.”

Lofty goals for a child, to be sure… but nothing a visit to a department store Santa, list of wishes in hand, couldn’t fix.

As I grew older, there were the latest Barbie dolls, electronic gadgets and toys to be had – the “fun” stuff.

I remember that tinge of disappointment when I would spy shirt boxes wrapped under the tree, knowing it likely meant clothing. Yawn. How funny the way our perceptions change as we age.

And so it remains, for the most part, to this day. Aside from a few token “musthave” toy crazes that erupt each holiday season, even the children of today seem perfectly content to collect money and gift cards from their relatives and either squirrel it away or splurge on

This Christmas, perhaps the focus should be not on what’s under the tree, but rather those around it… the true reason for the season, after all. Five Tips On Moving (NAPSI)—According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 12 percent of Americans move to new homes every year. The next time you’re among them, you may be able to save time, trouble and money when you choose a professional mover—you won’t have to worry about renting equipment, paying hidden costs, handling heavy or bulky items and being responsible if something goes wrong.

Here are five hints to help.

1. Be wary of any “guaranteed” estimates offered over the phone or online. Make sure you show the mover everything that needs to be moved, and get at least three estimates to compare. Avoid any that are too high or too low.

2. Check the company’s ratings with the Better Business Bureau and other consumer websites, and ask family and friends for referrals.

3.

Make sure all agreements are in writing, and get a copy of everything

you sign, especially the bill of lading. Never sign any blank forms.

4. Ask questions if you don’t understand something, and make sure your mover has your cell phone number to reach you.
