The Cemetery of Lost Souls is a grass roots organization that gears up each year to create an elaborate Haunted House on the founder’s property, located at 350 Broadway in Massapequa Park. Every bit of money raised through their annual event (admission, donations, sponsorships, etc.) is given to a chosen charity.

They have raised a lot of money over the years in donations alone and have donated to charities such as Autism Speaks, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Long Island Cares.

This year they are bringing the community a new interactive experience with the second Lost Souls Walk-Thru haunt, new rooms, new scares and new thrills! Each event has been going great, with up to hundreds of guests each night! The remaining events will run on October 31 and November 1-2 from 7PM-11:30PM. On Halloween, their event will be kid-friendly! There will be no actors and walk through tours of their haunted house will be given.

The chosen charity for 2019 is Melissa’s Wish, a nonprofit organization founded with the purpose of providing short term, nonmedical financial aid in the form of a grant to caregivers who are assisting those afflicted with a serious illness, injury or end of life event.

On Sunday, the 10th of November, the Long Island National Cemetery, located at 2040 Wellwood Ave. Farmingdale, will be holding a Veterans Day Ceremony. It will take place at 2:00 pm in the Memorial Garden. We would like to invite the community to join us on that day to be a part of our service. It is so important to pass the stories of our veterans down to ensure that they will never be forgotten. It’s said that a person dies twice, the last time they take a breath and the last time that their name is said. Our mission here at the National Cemetery Administration is that it never happens that a vet dies for the second time, and it can’t be done without our communities assistance.

On Friday, October 4, 2019, Superintendent Paul Defendini and Farmingdale Board of Education members Michael Goldberg, Kathy Lively, and Arlene Soete hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new athletic field complex at Weldon E. Howitt Middle School. With giant scissors in hand, President Michael Goldberg clipped the Daler green ribbon amid cheers from the Dalerettes, the Farmingdale PAL Kickline, and all the fans in the stands.

Director of Athletics Jeanne Berkoski presented Superintendent Defendini with a congratulatory plaque to mark the occasion. Mr. Defendini first envisioned the

complex several years ago and is thrilled to see it so embraced by the community. All the fields are now in use, and construction of the aquatic center will begin shortly.

Prior to the ribbon cutting ceremony, a spirited pep rally was held in the middle school gym.

Students from Farmingdale High School played in the drum line, and the middle school wind ensemble—conducted by music teacher Jennifer Towers—served as pep band.

Superintendent Defendini gave welcoming remarks and Principal Luis Pena introduced the middle school sports teams.

After the pep rally and ribbon cutting festivities were over, the middle school football team took the field to play their first game of the season against Baldwin. The Dalers won by a score of 31-13.

“The new facility is a reflection of the community and their commitment to the student-athletes of Farmingdale,” said Coach Colin Leary. “Sports are a great precursor to life, and these boys and girls are fortunate to have the opportunity to perform at such a wonderful athletic complex in front of their friends and families.”
