Field Upgrades Coming Soon To Pop’s Field In Farmingdale

Steve Labriola announce that field upgrades are coming soon to Pop’s Field in Farmingdale. A synthetic turf infield will be replaced to improve the playing experience and safety for youth athletes who utilize this facility.

“My administration is committed to ensuring the Town of Oyster Bay is the best place to live, work, and raise a family. That means ensuring our parks offer the best playing experience for all

who use them, especially our young athletes,” Supervisor Saladino said.

“I’m proud to announce that upgrades are on the way to Pop’s Field in Farmingdale in the most cost-effective manner possible.”

Artificial turf fields have a general useful life of up to 10 years, however they are less expensive than the longterm cost of maintaining natural grass and a dirt surface. Turf fields also provide the potential for fewer cancellations of games due to inclement weather, as the field

is able to absorb rain storms in a manner that is not possible on a fullydirt infield.

“These upgrades will extend the play time for local little leaguers,” said Councilman Labriola.

“We are pleased to bring these enhancements to the Farmingdale community while keeping a watchful eye on our bottom line.”

Receiver Pravato Mails 2023-2024 School Tax Bills

Oyster Bay Town Receiver of Taxes, Jeffrey Pravato, reminds residents that the First Half of the 2023-2024 School Tax Levy was due on October 1st, but can be paid without penalty through November 13th. The Town of Oyster Bay is closed on November 10th in observance of Veteran’s Day.

“New York State Law allows my office to provide taxpayers with a 40-day penalty free period from the date the tax is due during which payment may be made without penalty,” Receiver Pravato explained. “After the 40 days, State Law requires a one percent penalty is added for each month the tax remains unpaid, retroactive to October 1st. Don’t delay, make your payment before November 13th and ensure you aren’t paying more out of pocket than you need to.”

The Tax Office is open in both Town Hall North, 74 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, and Town Hall South, 977 Hicksville Road, Massapequa, daily from 9:00 am to 4:45 pm to

assist residents and accept payments with a check, cash or credit card (for a fee). Outdoor walkup windows are also available. On November 9th and 13th both offices will be open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. When paying in person, residents are reminded to bring the entire tax bill.

Residents who prefer to mail in their payments should send them to the Office of the Receiver of Taxes, 74 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, N.Y. 117711539. Please be certain to sign your check, and make it payable to Jeffrey P. Pravato, Receiver of Taxes. Indicate your property’s school district code, section, block, lot and phone number on the check. All mailed payments must have a United States Postal Service postmark dated on or before November 13th.

Taxpayers also have access to the 2023-2024 School Tax information on our online system via a link on the Town website, www.oysterbaytown.com.

Residents may view current tax bills, print out a hard

copy, or pay taxes with an ACH check payment for a service fee of $1.75, or by credit card for a much higher fee charged by the credit card companies. The Town of Oyster Bay receives no portion of this fee.

Receiver Pravato reminds residents that school budgets are set by their local school districts, and the Town of Oyster Bay is not involved in that process. Any questions related to School Tax rates and amounts should be addressed to the resident’s school district. The telephone number for each school district is printed on the front of the School Tax bill.

When calling the Tax Office at (516) 624-6400, or sending an email to receiveroftaxes@ oysterbay-ny.gov, residents are requested to have the school district code, section, block and lot numbers of the property in question available. This information is listed on the tax bill and on the property deed.

October Fundraising Event Helps Pay For Funerals Of Loved Ones Who

Died From Drug Overdose & Provides Grief And Loss Services For Families

After her grandson Gabriel died of an overdose in 2010, Grandmother Paulette Phillippe remembers how her family had the additional struggle to pay for funeral expenses. That’s why in 2020, to mark Gabriel’s 10th anniversary in heaven, she formed Gabriel’s Giving Tree (GGT) to help families in need on Long Island pay for funeral and burial services after a loved one dies from an opioid poisoning or substance use disorder. In 2021, GGT joined forces with the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (LICADD), together they have raised more than $100,000, assisting nearly 30 families to provide their loved ones one final gift.

Says Phillippe, “I know from experience that many families may not have these funds, especially

after using much of their resources to help their loved one with treatment costs, in hopes of helping them become healthy and free from addiction. The grants provided by GGT only cover a portion of the expenses. Fortunately, several Long Island funeral homes, including Fives Funeral Homes in Smithtown and Patchogue work with the organization to help families struggling to pay for funeral costs stay within a budget.”

On October 29, 2023, GGT and LICADD will be hosting its annual fundraiser, “The Peter Sweisgood and Gabriel’s Giving Tree Healing and Recovery Breakfast” in memory of former LICADD Executive Director, Peter Sweisgood. The breakfast will honor Richard Buckman, Founder of the Long Island Recovery Association and Ed Olsen

(posthumously) for their contributions to the field of recovery. The Breakfast is an opportunity for families to share their experience in grief and healing during a casual, come as you are event. To be as inclusive as possible, tickets are priced at $55. The Breakfast will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Heritage Club at Bethpage. In addition to assisting with funeral costs, Gabriel’s Giving Tree has created a Tree Memorial and Serenity Garden at the Suffolk County Environmental Center at the Scully Estate, located at 550 South Bay Avenue in Islip. Called “Gabriel’s Giving Tree Memorial & Recovery Park,” the serene space gives visitors

the opportunity to heal and reflect. Together with LICADD they connect families to grief and loss services. For more information on a

On the evening of October 3rd, thousands gathered at Farmingdale High School’s stadium field to celebrate the lives of two remarkable women, Gina Pelletieri and Bea Ferrari.

The outpouring of love and support from the community was a true testament to Ms. P and Bea’s impact on the people around them. The evening was an opportunity to come together, celebrate the lives of these two exceptional women, and offer support to the Aldieri, Ferrari, LoPresto, and Pelletieiri families.

Banners, posters, cards, flowers, and pictures were displayed behind the endzone and were a sight to behold. People could see firsthand the impact that Ms. P and Bea had on many lives. The tributes were presented as gifts to the families at night’s end. The turnout for the vigil was impressive, with the community standing shoulder to shoulder.

We are Dalers, and as a husband, a father, a son, a friend, a coach, and a humble helper to the Farmingdale Community, I can say without any pretense or reservation that I love our Daler family. I look forward to all the days when we can continue to make our angels proud. I look forward to showing the world what is possible with unconditional compassion and love.”
