According to The National September 11 Memorial and Museum Foundation, the museum serves as the country’s principal instiution concerned with exploring the implications of the events of 9/11, documenting the impact of those events and exploring the continuing significance of September 11. The Charity of the Month for September is: The Twilight Wish Foundation www.twilightwish.org

The Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations.

Since the Foundation’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. S o m e t i m e s a wish fulfills an immediate need, and sometimes it is a last wish or lifetime dream. Large or small, all wishes provide a meaningful “thank you” to the senior for a lifetime of service to others. Every wish they grant helps build a culture that values and respects our senior population.

You can qualify for a Twilight Wish if you are at least 65 years old, are a legal U.S. citizen, demonstrate financial need, provide a history of giving back to others and possess the cognitive, emotional and physical ability to experience the wish.

To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,000 wishes throughout our country, ranging from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross-country in a tractor-trailer truck.

One of their wish recipient’s life was changed after he wished for a mobility scooter. He is from Scranton, PA and wanted this scooter so he can continue to assist others at an art center located across the street from his residence.

Long Island’s Chapter Director James Ciervo and his colleague Joann Petrie drove to PA to pick up a very gently used scooter, updated it a bit and delivered

it to the recipient right in his hometown!

LOCAL NON-PROFIT DONATES BACKPACKS - The education of our children benefits everyone in so many different ways. The Women’s Club of Farmingdale’s logo lists education as a top priority. In keeping with that belief, members of the women’s club, together with the junior league and friends, donated over 50 backpacks filled with a large assortment of school supplies to St. Kilian’s Outreach Program. This annual tradition benefits local school-age children in grades K-12. Teachers from the FSD, together with outreach volunteers, sort through all the supplies and set aside special days in August at the Howitt Middle School for needy families to be able to give their children the tools for a better life.
