has produced scholarship winners.

Emilia Thuma was accepted to the famous School of American Ballet, the training school for the New York City Ballet, received a $6,500 scholarship to NYU for dance education and a $2,000 academic scholarship to Hofstra.

Sara Jansen received a full scholarship to the New York Theatre Ballet, and is now under contract with the company. Sara also danced with the American Ballet Theatre at Lincoln Center in Romeo & Juliet, and in July 2004 was invited to dance with the Richmond Ballet in Virginia.

The studio now competes regionally, across Long Island, as well as nationally, in New York City.

Classes are offered in Ballet, Tap, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Streetdance, Modern and Irish step; as well as Acro, Musical Theatre and Terrific Toddler Time for both boys and girls.

Mary Douglas, owner of South Shore School of Dance, is celebrating her 31st anniversary of teaching.

A mother of 23-year-old twins, she wanted to create a unique school where pre-schoolers received the love, nurturing and encouragement that they needed, while older students benefited from her professional background and the “world class” training that she is able to offer. The result is a very unique school, where “only mothers” teach the very youngest children.

A certified, registered teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance in London, Mrs. Douglas is included in a worldwide registry of outstanding teachers. In 1994, she was invited to Russia as part of an American dance delegation of the Royal Academy to visit the famous Vaganova Institute, training ground to such famous dancers as Mikhail Baryshnikov.

A Time To Celebrate By: Jamie Lynn Ryan Birthdays. Some people love them, others despise that annual reminder that, like it or not, time is flying by – with or without you.

Personally, I’ve always been a fan – not on the my-birthday-should-be-anational-holiday scale, but definitely as an occasion that I’ve looked forward to each year. It’s a time to celebrate with family and friends, and to show your appreciation to others when their special days come around. Too often, we get so caught up in our daily lives that we forget to acknowledge those who

play such an important role.

Sure, those milestones can serve as not-so-subtle reminders that, hey, the clock is ticking – didn’t you have all sorts of things you wanted to accomplish by now?!? Better get to it! But I think those thoughts can creep in at any age, young, old or in between. We set hypothetical deadlines for when things “have” to be done, knowing full well that life rarely works out so perfectly.

The best we can do is move forward, making a little progress along the way, pausing to celebrate and appreciate those things

– and people – who matter most. The rest – the gray hairs, the wrinkles, the aches and pains – they’re just normal wear and tear from a life well lived!

So the next time a birthday comes along, milestone or not, try to enjoy it. Appreciate those who wish to appreciate you, and remember to pay it forward when their own special occasions come along.

It’s nice to be remembered, and better than that – it’s nice to wake up to a brand new day - or year - with lots to look forward to.

The Town of Babylon Food Pantry is in dire need of your assistance. They are a small, emergency food pantry that operates by donation only. In these tough economic times, more and more families in the community are having difficulty making ends meet. The pantry was able to supply families with food prior to the storm; however, as you can imagine, their shelves are now bare.

The pantry is asking concerned residents, organizations and scout troops to consider supporting them by holding a food drive to help restock the shelves.

Pantry guests are give the opportunity to come once a month, and they are provided with as much food as possible. All that’s required from the guest is a photo ID, and them to fill out a card with their name, address, phone number and the number of people in the household.

Many of these families are regular visitors and come every month, so the pantry is familiar with their situations and families. It’s extremely difficult to tell them the pantry is not able to provide them with the food they so desperately need.

Additionally, the pantry publicizes their needs in the Around Town Senior Magazine, which reaches over 3,000 Town of Babylon residents every month. Occasionally, they have businesses in the community that advertise in the magazine, and this money supports the food pantry, which allows them to shop for items when in need.

When an officer whose name was Jolly observed the screaming Ollie, he threw them off the trolley, so they decided to visit Wally, a man who owned a collie.

Change Of Address Assemblyman Joseph S. Saladino recently announced the move of his district office to its new location at 512 Park Boulevard in Massapequa Park.

Assemblyman Saladino, who represents the 9th Assembly District made up of Massapequa, Massapequa Park, South Farmingdale, West Babylon, Babylon Village, the southern portion of North Babylon,

West Islip, West Bay Shore and the Barrier Island including Oak Beach. This new office, just south of Sunrise Highway from the Massapequa Park Railroad Station, will provide his constituents with greater access to their representative in Albany.

“The 9th Assembly District has changed its geography to such an extent that I am more accessible to my constituents

at this location,” said Assemblyman Saladino.

“I am always honored to be able to help meet the concerns of my constituents and look forward to a warm reception in Massapequa Park.”

Assemblyman Saladino said in the near future they will host a grand opening ceremony with a date and time to be announced.

Stop World Hunger Tournament Registration is now underway for the 33rd Annual Stop World Hunger Tennis Tournament. The tournament is open to tennis players who have not qualified to play in this year’s U.S. Open Tennis Tournament. Intermediate (3.0-3.5), advanced intermediate (3.5-4.0), and advanced (4.0-4.5+) players from more than forty Long Island communities are expected to participate.

The purpose of the tennis tournament is to provide an enjoyable

recreational activity, while helping those in desperate need. All entry fees and donations are forwarded to Catholic Relief Services to assist in their efforts to feed God’s hungry children throughout the world.

Assistance is provided where the need is greatest, regardless of race, religion and/or nationality.

Events consist of men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

The cost is $6 for singles and $10 for doubles.

Participants schedule their own matches at mutally convenient times and sites.

All matches are to be played between September 14th and November 16th. The deadline for registration is Friday, September 6th.

Awards will be presented at a special Holiday Tennis Party.
