This year’s ‘Backto-School Giveaway Celebration’ is scheduled to take place on August 12th, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be hosted in front of Freeport Retro Fitness at 131 West. Sunrise Highway Freeport, NY 11520.

Come join God’s Way Foundation’s “Back-ToSchool Celebration II” as they come together to make a difference in the lives of low-income children. They will be donating 1000 FREE High-End backpacks filled with essential school supplies, ensuring that every child has the tools they need to succeed academically. Not only will the kids receive highquality backpacks, but they will also be treated to an array of exciting activities.

A Mobile Video Game Truck will be on-site, providing an immersive gaming experience that will captivate the young ones and let their imaginations run wild. And what’s a celebration without beloved Disney Princesses and Superheroes; courtesy of the “New York Avengers”?

Summer ‘Movies By Moonlight’ In Town Of Oyster Bay Parks

This event is not just about celebrating the start of a new school year but also about fostering a sense of community and support for families in need. By coming together, a profound impact can be made on the lives of these children, encouraging them to reach their full potential. Furthermore, to encourage literacy and summer reading, books are included, one book, graciously donated by “The Book Fairies” of Freeport, inside of each of the 1000 backpacks they will be donating!

The foundation donates backpacks which the children will both identify with and carry with them for multiple years, to ease the financial strain on parents. Parents will receive swag bags with a packet of information containing free resources directing them to service centers where they may receive aid from locations such as food pantries, emergency housing, local churches, and more. At God’s Way Foundation, they believe that durable supplies are a key component of ‘student preparedness.’ Children

growing up in low-income households often lack the quality items necessary for proper schooling due to their parents ’ financial hardships. Their mission is to give the children a stress-free day of cost-free fun.

Town Of Babylon And Wounded Warrior Project Join Forces

On Friday, July 14, 2023, the Town of Babylon, in partnership with Wounded Warrior Project, honored and participated with wounded U.S. military veterans in the Town’s 16th annual Soldier Ride. Hundreds of eager participants rode their bikes alongside wounded U.S. military veterans on the 25mile route from Babylon Town Hall to Overlook Beach and raise money for veterans service organizations.

After participants crossed the finish line, U.S. military veterans, their families and friends celebrated the completion of the ride with

a participation barbeque at Overlook Beach for the warriors and riders.

This is the 20th anniversary of Soldier Ride, and the Town of Babylon’s 16th annual event. Soldier Ride brings together the brave men and women who serve our country with local communities to form meaningful connections and raise money and awareness to aid veterans through their

recovery process. 40 warriors participated in this year’s Soldier Ride. Thirty warriors are Wounded Warriors, five warriors are from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and five warriors are from Blesma, the Limbless Veterans, in Great Britain. Throughout their 16 Soldier Rides, the Town of Babylon has raised over $1.5 million for Wounded

Warrior Project. Over 1,000 registered riders were expected for this year’s event, and the $50,000 fundraising goal has already been surpassed. The amount raised is up to $140,000 with donations still coming in. Proceeds of this year’s event will benefit Wounded Warrior Project and the Association for Mental Health and Wellness, a Hauppauge-

based organization with a nationally-lauded peer-topeer veteran mental health approach. For each of the Soldier Rides of the past several years, the Town of Babylon and Wounded Warrior Project have agreed for part of the proceeds to be donated to a Suffolk County veterans service organization in need, rotating to help a new group each year.

Representing the Women’s Club of Farmingdale (WCF) at the June 10-12, 2023 GFWC International Annual Convention were Linda Kreussling, Tina Diamond and Vicky Impollonia. Representatives from women’s clubs throughout the world were in attendance and can be seen making “no sew” blankets for Canine Companions for Independence.

Some of the highlights included speakers, workshops, and presentation of awards. Guests also had time to visit the Kentucky Derby Museum, Churchill Downs, Big Four Bridge and the Louisville Bourbon District.

and Sheri Klym, Gala Keynote Speaker and Director, Memberships and Associations, Alzheimer’s Association.

GFWC is encouraging all clubs to join the National Day of Service (NDS) on September 30, where all clubs come together in service to highlight an area of need, take action to address it, and raise public awareness about its importance. This received nationwide accolades and support from clubwomen in attendance.

GFWC is proud to work side-by-side with a number of dynamic and impactful organizations: Heifer International For more than 70 years, Heifer International has provided gifts of livestock and environmentally-sound agricultural training to improve the lives of those

Lightning Warriors To Host 4th Annual Mini Maniac Youth Triathlon

Lightning Warriors, a notfor-profit youth triathlon team, will be hosting its 4th annual Mini Maniac Youth Triathlon on Sunday September 17, 2023 at 7:00 AM at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai, New York. This year’s Mini Maniac event will be geared toward triathletes of all levels between the ages of 7 and 17. While all racers will be participating in a youth triathlon, races will be divided into three separate age groups with swimming, biking and running distances varying accordingly. Younger athletes are also encouraged to register to participate in the Splash & Dash event,

which is a 50-meter swim and a quarter-mile run for athletes between the ages of 5 and 7.

“I am excited to see the smiles and accomplishments as each athlete crosses the finish line and for those first timers being called a triathlete,” says Lightning Warriors Head Coach Noah Lam.

All Mini Maniac participants will be able to take part in training clinics with the Lightning Warriors team in the months leading up to the triathlon. Favor bags will also be distributed to each racer, as well as medals for all finishers, awards for the top male and female finishers and post-

race refreshments. Participating in youth triathlons help build positive physical activity habits in children. According to Lam, “Every child should be able to swim, bike and run as those are lifetime skills… We’ve also seen that physical activity can provide immense benefits for mental health, more selfesteem, a sharper focus on achieving goals and a better ability to connect with other kids.”

Athletes’ individual skills will also be enhanced by being a part of a team in a healthy competitive and supportive space.

At this popular free kid-friendly event, Pinelawn explains how Aphids cause harm to the health of a variety of plant material and how we can control

their population by introducing their natural predator, the Lady Beetle (also known as the Ladybug).

This is a fun, hands-on event as guests release over 400,000 ladybugs in Pinelawn’s rose gardens. Each child can create a ladybug craft to take home and explain all they have learned.
