“Your Gildersleeve is my Roger” the words were barely audible through tears and cries of Roger’s name. After having been missing for more than a year from Lindenhurst and turning up on Route 110 in Amityville, Roger, an almost 11 year-old cat was on his way home thanks to a little good fortune and the help of South Bay’s Neighbor Pet’s Place. Charlene Brass recognized her long lost cat’s photo in the April 16th

issue of the paper the day the Babylon Shelter photo was published. This photo was definitely her cat, Roger, who had disappeared in March 2012. Charlene looked for Roger for months and visited the shelter several times searching for him. Lost pet reunions like this, especially cat reunions, only happen once or twice a year; yet, each time one does, it reminds distraught owners never to give up hope.

be that wistful, bittersweet sensation that, just last year (and nearly two thirds of my life before that) that used to be me up on stage, decked out in full costume, makeup, hair… the whole deal. While all of the students crashed their cars at some point during the simulation, police officers were on hand to discuss the impairment laws, consequences and statistics with the teens. “It’s important to make the right decisions,” one student, who received her license in January, said after completing the task.

“This really shows you how alcohol can affect your brain, even if you think you are okay.” The Nassau County Police Department was also on site to view the program in action, with the hopes of duplicating it for all Nassau schools and residents. Inside the school, SADD club members asked students to pledge to always drive safe and make smart decisions by signing a big “safe driving” banner.

In October of 2012, St. Francis’s newly renovated Emergency Department (ED) was unveiled - the region’s first “green” ED, featuring electrically operated privacy glass, highefficiency light fixtures and other innovations

After graduating from Harvard College, Dr. Guerci earned his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College and a master’s degree in health care management from the Harvard School of Public Health. This event will feature a panel discussion featuring disability advocates from across Long Island, and will facilitate a dialogue between residents in attendance and the event’s guest speakers. Additional events include a book discussion/lecture event, facilitated by Anna Katsavos, Ph. D., Professor Emeritus at SUNY Nassau,

Literature and Women’s studies, and a dramatic re-enactment of key scenes from the novel by a local theatrical troupe. ‘One Town, One Book,’ the well-established, national program that seeks to challenge communities to read the same book and discuss reactions with friends and families will return to the Town of Oyster Bay in the coming summer months, with an exciting new book choice and multiple upcoming Town-wide events, Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Rebecca Alesia announced. “Last summer, the Town introduced our residents to One Town, One Book, with two clear goals in mind: to promote literacy, and to create a greater sense of community within our Town,” Councilwoman Alesia said. “In its first year, the program was a resounding success, and I am both proud and excited to have it return this summer and offer residents the chance to participate. This year we are very excited to have chosen Wonder, by R.J.
