In recognition of World Blood Donor Day and in an effort to help hospitals facing a nationwide blood shortage, Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Steve Labriola invite residents to attend a Blood Collection Drive on Tuesday, June 14th from 1pm to 7pm at the Hicksville Athletic Center, located at 167 S. Broadway in Hicksville.

Supervisor Saladino stated, “Blood supplies have seriously dwindled as a result of the pandemic and are critically needed for local hospitals to meet the demand and continue saving lives. Please consider participating in this blood drive to help bolster our blood banks and ensure as many people as possible

can be helped. Together, we can give the gift of life though a simple blood donation.”

Appointments are preferred for the Town’s Blood Drive. To qualify as a donor, a person must be between the ages of 17 and 75 years old (16 with parental permission and 76 or older with a doctor’s note), weigh at least 110 pounds and not have donated blood within the last 56 days. Anyone who received a tattoo within the past 12 months is ineligible to donate. It is recommended that donors eat well (low fat) and drink fluids in the days before the Blood Drive. Additionally, all donors will receive a voucher for a free Blizzard at Dairy Queen compliments of Councilwoman Laura

They have been helping others for 93 years!

Little Flower has proudly adapted to address the unmet needs of those in their community by continuing to develop new programs and services. Their corporate headquarters and Suffolk County campus is still located in Wading River, however they also have a NYC campus, which is their flagship office in Brooklyn, along with ten residences across Queens and Long Island for individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities.

“During the pandemic, Little Flower continued to operate without disruption to ensure the safety and well-being of hundreds of children in foster care, youth in residential treatment care, and adults with developmental disabilities. The Caring Acts Coalition will provide much needed support to those served by Little Flower, their families, our staff, and the local community,” shared Corinne Hammons, Little Flower’s President & CEO. He opened a summer camp in Wading River that would eventually transition to a year-round residential treatment facility serving thousands of children, families and individuals with developmental disabilities.

It would be an understatement to say that it has been an interesting few years for the Class of 2022. Due to the pandemic, many soon-to-be grads spent a significant portion of their school years adapting to a changing landscape, both at school and at home.

While it is an accomplishment to reach graduation in a “normal” situation, students who have succeeded and thrived in the face of pandemicrelated adversity are worthy of extra celebration.

Graduation gifts are a great way to show grads how proud you are that they stayed the course in the face of significant challenges. Here are seven gift ideas for graduates.

1. Journal: Graduates are about to start new chapters in their lives. Either a blank journal or one with writing prompts can help grads get their thoughts on paper to document both the many moments that will shape the next few years.

2. Mascot - or school - themed offerings: If a high school graduate will be going on to higher education, then visit the college or university’s spirit shop to purchase anything from sweatshirts to blankets to coffee mugs featuring a school logo or mascot. On the first day of classes, the new student will already feel part of the team.

Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Laura Maier invites residents interested in maintaining or improving their levels of fitness to participate in the Town of Oyster Bay’s Fitness Classes, which return beginning July 11th at the Hicksville Athletic Center. Fitness classes are co-ed, open to individuals 18 years of age or older, and run for 10 weeks.

Councilwoman Maier stated, “Cardio KickBoxing, Pilates, Ballroom Dancing, Yoga, and Zumba are all very popular programs that provide our residents an outlet to enjoy exercising and staying in shape, all while meeting new people. I encourage those looking for a terrific form of aerobic exercise that will help build strength and flexibility to come out and sign up for a 10-week fitness program.”

This summer, residents

can participate in a variety of fitness classes including: Ballroom Dancing will be held on Saturdays, from 7pm to 8pm, beginning July 16th.

Cardio Kick-Boxing will be held on Thursdays, from 7:30pm to 8:30pm, beginning July 14th.

Pilates will be held on Mondays (Tone & Sculpt), from 8pm to 9pm, beginning on July 11th.

Yoga will be held on Mondays, from 10am to 11am, beginning on July 11th at the Allen Park Community Center in Farmingdale.

Classes are also offered at the Hicksville Athletic Center on Tuesdays, from 7:30pm to 8:30pm, beginning on July 12th, and on Saturdays, from 9am to 10am, beginning on July 16th.

Zumba will be held on Mondays from 6:45pm to 7:45pm beginning July

11th and Wednesdays from 7:30pm to 8:30pm beginning July 13th.

Registration for these programs will take place at the Hicksville Athletic Center, 167 Broadway in Hicksville, on: Monday, June 6th from 5:30pm to 9:30pm; Tuesday, June 7th from 5:30pm to 9:30pm; and on Wednesday, June 8th from 5:30pm to 9:30pm. Each program is 10 weeks in length with a fee of $60 for residents and $70 for non-residents. Participants must bring their own mats for yoga and pilates.

“Many of our residents are getting their yards readied for summer and may have large amounts of non-hazardous debris to dispose,” said Councilwoman Johnson.

“Residents can bring items such as used tires, fence posts, clean broken concrete or yard waste to our Homeowners Cleanup.”

Free Paper Shredding

Services - Saturday, June 11th from 8:30am – 4pm: provides residents an opportunity to destroy unwanted documents in a safe and secure manner. Residents only, no businesses, can bring up to four bankers’ boxes of paper to the shredding program.

The Town’s S.T.O.P. and Homeowners programs are open to residents within the Town’s Solid Waste Disposal District.
