From The Desk Of Mayor Ralph Ekstrand Farmingdale Village –- Our Own Lithology Takes First!

Our own Lithology Brewing Company took the Gold Medal for their Brown Ale this year at The New York State Craft Beer Competition! Of Course, they are Very Proud and we in Farmingdale Village are very proud of them!

The NYS Craft Beer Competition presented by Ultimate Brew Service is the largest statelevel competition in the US. Open to all 500+ craft breweries, more than 1,200 entries were included this year which were judged in 31 style categories by qualified industry professionals.

Lithology Brewing Co. is a award winning, licensed New York State Farm Brewery located in beautiful downtown Farmingdale, NY. Their brewing process blends science, technology, new and traditional

of Lithology Brewing Company, Manny Coelho and Kevin Cain have hand assembled many of the components of the brewery in order to coax the best possible brew out of each batch.

techniques as well as the best available ingredients to craft balanced, drinkable beers utilizing scientific backgrounds, local ingredients and love of beer to craft the perfect pint. The goal is to have their beer spark conversations and be enjoyed in the company of friends, family, neighbors and acquaintances. The entire process, from ingredient selection, to brewing and kegging, is done with the purpose of creating an exceptional drinking experience. If the brew doesn’t taste right, they won’t sell it. As a Farm Brewery, they use at least 60% locally harvested New York ingredients, including hops, grain and their own yeast strains. The brewery produces four barrels of craft beer at a time, resulting in creative brews and a unique tap line-up. The owners

Says Manny: “So the Brown Ale was originally brought up by my partner Lee; we were in a garage in 2012 and we’d brew it 2-3 times a week and kept tweaking it, making it better and better! It’s Our Baby, it’s one of our Original Recipes brought over when we became a Professional Brewery in 2015. Today it remains one of our favorite recipes and also our Flagship. So when we won it was really emotional and vindicating! Come over and taste it!”

In Farmingdale Village we take pride in acknowledging and welcoming everyone, are PRO BUSINBSS and We Toast to LithologyCONGRATULATIONS!

Major Grant For Farmingdale Village Water

Thanks A Million! We Have A Million Reasons To Thank Legislator John Ferretti For Getting Farmingdale Village This $1,000,000 Grant For Water Treatment

On April 1st, Legislator John Ferretti presented a check to the Village of Farmingdale for the treatment of 1,4 Dioxane levels in the water supply. The money, totaling $1 million, is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and is meant to help improve communities in public health, negative economic impacts, water, sewer, broadband infrastructure, natural disaster relief and other emergency situations. This check will specifically help the Village in the $18 million upgrade

to the water treatment system and removal of 1,4 Dioxane and other contaminants. The village plans on installing an advanced oxidation process (AOP) treatment system, as well as a granular activated carbon (GAC) treatment system. There will also be associated site improvements to accommodate these new systems.

“We have heard of the dangers of 1,4 Dioxane and other water contaminants, and I am very happy to help the Village of Farmingdale combat these

contaminants in the water by providing them this ARPA money,” Legislator John Ferretti said. “This will improve not just the public health of those in Farmingdale, but also help improve the water infrastructure and make the system more efficient.”

Mayor Ralph Ekstrand: “Just to reassure Everyone Farmingdale Village water has always been safe to drink; and is safe to drink now! These are all just steps to continue to ensure that and adhere to all Federal and State Guidelines.”

Town Waives Fees To Encourage Outdoor Dining Opportunities

Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board recently announced that the Town of Oyster Bay will waive all fees to encourage restaurants to offer outdoor dining opportunities throughout 2024. Prior to the global pandemic, outdoor dining was limited and required establishments to pay fees and obtain certain approvals from the Department of Planning and Development. That is once

again not necessary for 2024.

Supervisor Saladino said, “We’ve cut red tape and eliminated fees to encourage restaurants to offer outdoor dining throughout 2024.

Street-side dining is a great way for restaurants to bring the food and ambiance closer to potential customers walking by, which can inspire more spur-of-the-moment walk-ins and support our downtown businesses.”

“Outdoor dining has

become a preferred choice for many residents seeking a unique and refreshing experience in their own downtown. We’re happy to keep this trend going while supporting local businesses that invested in outside tents, heaters and covers over the past few years so that customers can enjoy the fresh air and the outdoors while dining locally,” added Town Clerk Richard LaMarca.

‘Shed The Meds’

Drug Take Back Day

On April 20th Drug Takeback Day To Properly Dispose Of Old Medications

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Massapequa Village Mayor Danny Pearl announced a partnership with Drug Free Long Island and the Nassau County Police Department (NCPD) to host a ‘Shed the Meds’ Drug Take Back Day at Massapequa Park Village Hall on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 10:00am – 1:00pm.

“This Drug Take Back Day is a great opportunity to rid your medicine cabinet of old and unwanted prescription drugs,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Through proper disposal of old medications, we can prevent them from contaminating the environment through improper disposal and also keep them out of the wrong hands and away from young people.”

In cooperation with Drug Free Long Island and the Nassau County Police Department, the Town and

Village will host this event at Massapequa Park Village Hall, in the back parking lot. This program is anonymous. For those who cannot attend this Drug Take Back Day, disposal containers are located at all Police Precincts throughout the county for safe deposit.

For those looking to turn in unused or expired medication, be sure to make sure of the following:

If left in original container, please remove all personal information from label.

Liquid medication will not be accepted

Illicit substances are also not part of this initiative.

Intra-venous solutions, injectables, and syringes will be accepted.

For more information about the ‘Shed the Meds’ Drug Take Back Day, please call Drug Free Long Island at (516) 639-2386 or email info@drugfreeli.org

Farmingdale State College Ranks #5 On 2023 Social Mobility Index From Collegenet

Farmingdale State College (FSC) today announced its national ranking in the top five on the 2023 Social Mobility Index from CollegeNET. FSC is the only Long Island institution and one of just three New York colleges in the top 10 on the latest list.

“Given that Farmingdale serves thousands of middle- and working-class students, this recognition by CollegeNET validates our mission and underscores that there is great value in earning the college degrees that FSC offers,” said FSC President John S. Nader, PhD.

register, call Nina Foley, LMSW at (516) 877-4315.

The Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program offers emotional support and resources to people with and/or concerned about breast cancer. To reach the Hotline, which is staffed by volunteers who are breast cancer survivors, call 800-877-8077 or online at breast-cancer. adelphi.edu. You are not alone.

The Social Mobility Index (SMI) measures the extent to which a college or university educates more economically disadvantaged students (with family incomes below the national median) at lower tuition and graduates them into good paying jobs.

Farmingdale State College has often scored well in various indicators of social mobility and early career earnings. About 70% of FSC students work while they pursue their degrees. Many are first-generation college attenders, veterans, and

recent immigrants. FSC delivers a comprehensive range of support services designed to help students succeed. Private, federal and statefunded, its services offer counseling, tutoring, financial assistance, internship and research opportunities, and more. Students served by these programs have outstanding retention and graduation rates, including an 81% graduation rate in its Research Aligned Mentorship (RAM) Program and a 71% graduation rate in its Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP).

In addition, FSC’s Nexus Center for Applied Learning & Career Development promotes real-world learning, cocurricular activities, and extensive recruiting events. In 20222023, 2,755 students participated in creditbearing, applied learning placements through the Center.

FSC graduates leave prepared to “solve the brain drain” and fuel our region’s talented workforce in careers and occupations crucial to Long Island. According

to census data released in March 2023, between July 1, 2021 and July 1, 2022, people moved out of New York State at a higher percentage than anyplace else in the Northeast. However, 78% of FSC graduates stay and are working on Long Island six months after graduation.

Using data collected from third party sources, including the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard and the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), CollegeNET calculates the SMI from six variables: ethos, published tuition, family income, graduation rate, median salary approximately five years after graduation, and endowment. The 2023 SMI marks 10 years of ranking U.S. colleges and universities according to how well they advance educational opportunities and successful outcomes for economically disadvantages students.

ERA® Real Estate, a global franchising leader within the Anywhere Real Estate Inc. (NYSE: HOUS) portfolio of brands, recently announced its latest affiliation with Bon Anno Realty ERA Powered, a 40-year-old mainstay in the Long Island real estate market.

In The Spotlight Highlighting Local Businesses

Originally founded by Lucille Bonanno in 1984, the company is now entering its third generation of ownership / management in the

hands of Lucille’s son, Russell “Russ” Bonanno, and her grandson, Russ Bonanno Jr. Russ is the primary broker/ owner while his son Russ Jr. is the associate broker/manager and the primary overseer of agent onboarding. Together, the Bonannos offer trusted assistance with residential and commercial real estate primarily in Massapequa, Seaford and Farmingdale, as well as other parts of

Long Island and New York City.

Russ came into the family business in 1986, first as an agent, and then later as a broker in 1990. After his mother left the business in 1995, Russ took a more pronounced

leadership role where he helped oversee some of the company’s most explosive periods of growth. His son Russ Jr. joined him at the firm in 2014, immediately after graduating from Stony Brook University. Russ Jr.

Saladino Seeks Nominations To Honor Local Veterans

Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Oyster Bay Town Board are now accepting nominations in order to honor veterans at the Town’s ‘Salute to America’ Celebration scheduled for Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 7:30 pm at TOBAY Beach. Residents are invited to nominate extraordinary individuals who have made a positive difference in our veteran communities.

“The Town of Oyster Bay’s ‘Salute to America’ Celebration provides the ideal backdrop to recognize veterans and individuals who continue to actively serve in the community and advocate for issues and concerns relative to veterans. The Town is proud to recognize and honor amazing individuals who have helped to shape our communities for the better through their

continuing advocacy and exemplary community service each year,”

Supervisor Saladino said. “I hope residents will consider submitting a nomination of an individual who deserves special recognition for their continued efforts on behalf of the veteran’s community. I look forward to recognizing the efforts of outstanding individuals who have impacted the lives of our veterans in an extraordinary way yet again this year.”

Nominations are being accepted in three different categories of recognition: Veterans Volunteer of the Year (awarded to a veteran), Friend of Veterans Volunteer of the Year (awarded to a nonveteran), and Lifetime Achievement Award (awarded to a veteran or a non-veteran). All entries

must include a supporting narrative describing the nominee’s on-going veterans related activities, and all nominees must be Town residents. All nominations must be postmarked no later than Monday, June 3, 2024.

Winners will be recognized as part of a special program during the ‘Salute to America’ Celebration, a patriotic evening of top-flight musical talent and fireworks, which serves as a thank you to all of our veterans and active military for protecting the freedoms we enjoy each and every day as Americans.

To submit a nomination for the Veterans Awards, please visit www.oysterbaytown. com, email kfileccia@ oysterbay-ny.gov or call (516) 797-7925 for an application.

was raised in Seaford, where he still lives, and spent much of his childhood in and around the office, where he was able to realize his natural aptitude for the business at a young age. Today, both Russ’ have continued the work that Lucille started and have made “Bonanno” one of the most reputable names in the area. Now as part of the ERA Real Estate network, Russ, Russ Jr. and their fullservice company’s affiliated agents will be able to utilize the brand’s robust business-building tools and leverage the most up-to-date marketing programs to connect buyers and sellers. With these tools at their disposal, the Bonannos want to evolve from a reactive, local provider in Massapequa, to a proactive name-brand that can be recognized throughout Long Island and into New York City.

Home renovations can improve a home in many different ways. Modifications to kitchens and bathrooms have long been popular projects, but are they the most popular renovations? According to data from Realm, which analyzed the top 10 most popular projects from roughly 2.8 million listings and permit filings in the United States, certain projects are

more popular than others. Nationally, the most common home renovations include interior painting, exterior painting, finishing a basement, installing or replacing windows, and bathroom remodeling. Houzz polls have unveiled that renovating kitchens and bathrooms, new windows and porches, balcony and deck projects are among the most popular.
