to research and prepare a marketing plan. The teams then presented a 20-minute marketing plan to Mr. Pinero and the professors from NYIT, who appraised the students’ work. The criteria for judging included clarity of their oral presentation, quality of their research, the depth of the analysis, comprehensiveness of the target market audience, craftsmanship of appropriate media and message, and measurement of the results. Stacy Cabrera, Donna Wright, and the judges were so impressed with the students’ research, the ideas they generated, and the overall presentations, both visually and orally.

“These students are our future business leaders and entrepreneurs,” said Farmingdale High School teacher Stacy Cabrera.

“As a business education teacher, I am proud to have witnessed the theory and skills I teach in the classroom translate to realworld problem solving and also help create a pathway

and passion towards a future career.”

The following teams were recognized as the winners and received a monetary scholarship from the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce: 1st place - Wendoly Barahona & Tasnim Rauzat $500 2nd place - Thomas Decker & Ani Smith $300 3rd place - Catherine Dillon & Aniqa Khan $200 Mr. Allen Pinero presented an additional $100 Community Spirit award to the team composed of Olivia Espinosa and Vanessa Espinosa, for their demonstrated skill in creating ideas and strategies, focused on increased community marketability.

The challenge? Help Blink Fitness of Farmingdale, located at 450 Main Street, increase its customer base and outreach to the Farmingdale community.

Prominent Retired Farmingdale Teacher Turns 90 Dolores Cianciabella, esteemed retired Farmingdale Kindergarten teacher, celebrated her 90th birthday on March 14. On March 13, she was “queen for a day” as her children and grandchildren surprised her with a 40+ car birthday driveby in her honor.

Dolores’ life exemplifies the professional and volunteer spirit.

Dolores raised three children while earning a teaching degree at Hofstra University and began her career as a Kindergarten teacher at Woodward Parkway School in Farmingdale. In 1971 she completed an Early Childhood Master’s Degree at Adelphi University. She broadened her knowledge by traveling all over the world to learn about education in other countries. In 1980 she began volunteering at Our Lady of Lourdes Church bingo night and has continued for 35 years. From 1982-84 Dolores taught pre-K religion class to youngsters so their parents

could attend Mass.

In 1992 she retired from the Farmingdale School District after teaching classes with 50 children a day (2 sessions) for 26 years. Her volunteerism broadened when she joined Farmingdale AARP and worked in a Grandparent Program for Head Start. She worked for 10 years with underprivileged children. In 1993 she started volunteering at Mid-Island Hospital which is now called St. Joseph’s and continues to volunteer there every Tuesday where she works in Community Relations and visits patients to offer comfort.

Dolores joined the Women’s Club of Farmingdale in 1980 as a Nite-Lite, (evening division for working women).

She served a two-year term as the President. While in NiteLites, the General Federation of Women requested clubs to conduct programs stressing reading to children. Dolores dived right in and created a reading program at the

Farmingdale Library during the summer for 5-6 year olds.

She and members of the Women’s Club read one-onone to the children.

In 2004-06 she served as Corresponding Secretary in the Women’s Club. Her role took on more responsibility when she offered to help the new president with her duties as needed. As a result, she was elected president in 200608. Her goal was to bring in new members,and during her administration ten new members joined and became actively involved in all aspects of club activities. Several of them moved on to hold positions on the Executive Board. As president in 2007, she attended the GFWC Convention in Pennsylvania.

She took the theme to heart, “Empowering Women One

by One” and introduced their programs to the club.

During her administration the club donated $2,050 to repair and re-build the fountain in the Farmingdale

Village Green; she helped design a Club cookbook; worked on the Village Beautification Committee; and served as a one-time Chairman for Art in the Park. Monies raised made it possible for the Women’s Club of Farmingdale to present a $1,000 scholastic award to a Farmingdale art student.

When her term of office as President ended in 2008, Dolores accepted a position as Education Chairman for the GFWC-NY and served two, 2-year terms. She then held the position of Public Issues Partnership Chairman for two terms. In addition, she also served two terms on the Board of the Long Island Federation of Women’s Clubs.

With all this volunteer work, Dolores still finds time to enjoy bridge, is a member of a book club and writes short stories. She initiated a Creative Writing Group that chronicles family memories into short stories. One of

Residents may view tax bills, print out a hard copy, or pay taxes with an ACH check payment for a reduced fee of 75 cents, or by credit card for a much higher fee charged by the credit card companies.

The Town of Oyster Bay receives no portion of this fee.

“This tax bill reflects the new Nassau County reassessment,” Receiver Pravato explained. “If your School Tax bill increased more than the budgeted increase set, it is due to the effects of the County reassessment.

Smithtown Resident Fundraises For Clean, Safe & Reliable Water In Africa

Noelle Stanuch is a Smithtown resident who is fundraising for clean, safe and reliable water in sub-Saharan Africa for the second time through The Water Project, a non-profit organization.

This organization provides reliable water projects to communities in sub-Saharan Africa who suffer needlessly from a lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation. For each gift you make to The Water Project, you will eventually receive a report that details the technology used, the location of the effort, the number of people it serves and photographs of the process and completed water project.

“Can you imagine not having access to safe drinking water?

Not having clean water to shower with? Not knowing if the water you cook with will make you ill? I can’t, but I

don’t take what I have for granted,” Noelle said. “There is a real issue in today’s society.

We tend to not think about what we don’t live around or what we don’t see often. There are so many people suffering around the world and we need to help them.”

There is a water crisis affecting women, children, families and farmers. Every day in rural communities throughout subSaharan Africa, there are millions of people that suffer from a lack of access to clean, safe water. Women and girls there are spending so much time fetching dirty water, which leads to illness and disease.

Globally, 1 in 9 people still have no access to clean water, however, in the communities The Water Project serves, it’s 9 out of 9.

“So many of us are fortunate enough that throughout this pandemic we not only

knew that we should wash our hands often, but we had clean water to do so. That is not reality for everyone.

God has given me so many ways that I can help others! I want to make a change...I feel called to make a change.

I’m excited to see if I can reach my fundraising goal and see where God leads me next. To anyone who will donate to my fundraiser, I thank you so much. It truly means a lot to me to have your support.”

During her last fundraising efforts, Noelle was able to raise thousands of dollars.

Town of Oyster Bay Receiver of Taxes Jeffrey Pravato reminds Town residents that the Second Half of the 2020-2021 School Tax Levy was due on April 1st, but can be paid without penalty through May 10th.

“New York State Law allows my office to provide taxpayers with a 40 day penalty free period from the date the tax is due during which payment may be made without penalty,” Receiver Pravato explained. “After the 40 days, State Law requires a one percent penalty be added for each month the tax remains unpaid, retroactive to November 1st for the first half payment and April 1st for the second half payment.

Don’t delay, make your payment before May 10th to ensure you aren’t paying more out of pocket than you need to.”

Receiver Pravato continued, “During this public health crisis, the Tax Office has been fully operational but has suspended in office
