school year and during the summer. Village trustee and club member, Cheryl Parisi, created postings on the Village’s “Constant Contact” site which reached out to the Farmingdale community. These have produced substantial local support from individual community members and local merchants. Among these are a very generous
donation from our “sister” club, the Junior League of the Women’s Club of Farmingdale and The Nutty Irishman restaurant (Joe Fortuna owner & manager) which is planning pre-packaged individual meals for 30 families during the upcoming Easter school closing.
We would also like to thank all the hands-on-
deck club members who filled 27 large and small laundry baskets with nonperishable food items which were then picked up by the FSD social workers for distribution to needy families in time for the school district’s Christmas break and February winter break - February crew: Nancy Carmen, Vicky Impollonia, Lynn Connelly, Dolores Cianciabella, Edie Allen and Linda Kreussling and December crew: Ann Lomonte, Lynda Leone, Cayle Garthwaite, Maryann Seales and Sue Perna. And the Farmingdale Public Library for their use of a donation collection and storage site. The next collection will begin again
shortly in time for the April school break. A new updated flyer with a cutoff date and collection site information will be posted soon.
At its January 4, 2024 General Meeting, the Women’s Club of Farmingdale (WCF) 1st VP Lynda Leone invited Krista Lucarelli, Farmingdale Public Library Director, to make a presentation explaining the many programs of the library, especially the Special Needs Program. Recently, the WCF made a $1,000 donation to this program and Krista explained that the money will be used for a dance to be held in April for those enrolled.

Opportunities for this summer once again include a competitive starting salary of up to $18 per hour for all lifeguards, as well as openings for 15-year olds at community pools.
“From having the opportunity to work at one of the Town’s fantastic summer facilities and building confidence, selfesteem, and leadership skills, to making new friends and helping others, working as a lifeguard is one of the best summer jobs around,” Supervisor Saladino said. “Our lifeguards provide an invaluable service in protecting our residents and have helped save countless lives in both pool and ocean waters. We

“The Town of Oyster Bay is making it easier than ever to become a lifeguard. We’re offering all the certification and training courses you need to apply, covering the fees of these courses for successful candidates, welcoming 15-year olds to our lifeguard ranks at Town community pools, and offering competitive pay in recognition of the life-saving work they do,” added Supervisor Saladino.
Town lifeguards are hired for the summer season, which runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Positions are available at all Town pools and beaches. For all inquiries about lifeguard employment and classes, please call 516-7974131 or email aquatics@ oysterbay-ny.gov.

Pal-O-Mine Equestrian, Inc. Announces 4th Annual Hay Drive
Pal-O-Mine Equestrian, Inc., a private, not for profit organization providing a comprehensive therapeutic equine program using horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for children and adults with disabilities, has announced its 4th Annual Hay Drive. It is hoping that animal loving Long Islanders will once again help raise funds to feed the organization’s herd during the challenging winter months.
Feeding a large herd is costly and hay costs continue to increase due to weather and supply and demand challenges. Depending on the type of hay, each bale of hay weighing approximately 50-80 lbs. can cost from
$13.00 to over $20.00. Pal-O-Mine’s 6-week bill averages over $9,000 based on its herd eating 18 bales of hay (1,000 lbs.) every day. This year, due to its increasing operational costs as well as the increased cost of hay, the organization is hoping to raise $20,000 to cover its hay costs for the period from through April 15th.
To show your support, please send a check in any amount made payable to:
Pal-O-Mine Equestrian, 829 Old Nichol Road, Islandia, NY 11749 or visit the organization’s website and make a secure donation at: https://pal-omine.org/donate/ About Pal-O-Mine
Founded in 1995 by Lisa Gatti, Pal-O-Mine is a private, not for profit
organization providing a comprehensive therapeutic equine program using horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for children and adults with disabilities, as well as those who have been abused or neglected, veterans and the economically compromised. Pal-O-Mine offers a broad range of programs, many of which involve the organization’s herd of therapy horses and livestock. Pal-OMine relies on grants and contributions from private citizens, foundations and businesses to help raise funds. For more information on Pal-OMine, visit:www.pal-omine.org or call: 631-3481389.

Town Seeks Counselors For Summer
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Steve Labriola announced that the Town is seeking counselors ages 16 and older for the 2024 Summer Recreation Program. The six-week program provides a rewarding employment experience for counselors as they work with children and
make a difference.
“This great summer job is ideal for residents age 16 or older who are looking to build their resume,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Our summer recreation counselors get real-world experience while having fun, making memories, and making a difference in the lives of others.”
Applicants must be available for the duration of the program, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, beginning July 1st through August 9th. Orientation will take place the week of June 24th. Summer Recreation Program participants take part in trips, tournaments, shows and athletic events,
including the TOBAY Games, making being a counselor a great first job for many residents. Employment opportunities are offered at Marjorie R. Post (Massapequa), PlainviewOld Bethpage and SyossetWoodbury Community Parks, Ellsworth W. Allen Town Park in Farmingdale,
Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park and Beach in Oyster Bay, and Tappen Beach in Glenwood Landing.
“The Town has positions available for counselors, coordinators, leaders and assistant leaders at all locations, especially at our north shore facilities at Theodore Roosevelt Park and Tappen Beach,” said
Councilman Labriola. “Spots fill quickly and we encourage all interested residents to fill out an application today.”
For more information, prospective counselors should contact Town’s Department of Parks at (516) 797-7945 or visit www.oysterbaytown.com/ summerrecreation.
Town Launches Pet Food & Supply Drive In Partnership With LI Cares
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Tom Hand announced that the Town of Oyster Bay will once again host a Pet Food & Supply Drive in partnership with Long Island Cares. The
Long-Term Care Policy
(NAPSI)—In addition to protecting their country, Americans in the armed forces can protect their families with a long-term care policy. Visit LTCFEDS. com/militaryfamily to learn more about the benefits of applying for the Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program FLTCIP).
drive will take place from March 1st to March 31st with a focus on collecting for the family members most vulnerable to hunger, residents’ pets. Long Island Cares formed Baxter’s Pet Pantry in 2009 to assist in feeding dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits, caged pets, fish, reptiles and all others considered family members.
“Unfortunately, many pets are oftentimes placed into shelters or given away because families cannot afford the necessary food and supplies,” said Supervisor Saladino. “When struggling families have to make choices to heat their homes, buy medication or feed their own families, pets can
become an afterthought. Pet food drives like this one can be a real lifesaver for both pets and their families.”
The creation of Baxter’s Pet Pantry by Long Island Cares has helped distribute over one million pounds of pet food, all of which has been donated through pet food drives like this one and corporate donations.
“These pet food and supply donation drives can help countless animals stay at home with their loved ones,” said Councilman Hand. “The Town is proud to once again partner with Long Island Cares for this important cause.”
Those interested in supporting the Town’s
Pet Food & Supply Drive can place donated items in drop-off boxes located at both Town Hall offices, including Town Hall North at 54 Audrey Avenue in Oyster Bay,
and Town Hall South at 977 Hicksville Road in Massapequa, during regular business hours.
Town Hall locations are open Monday through Friday from
9:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
For more information, visit www.licares.org or call the Town’s Public Information Office at (516) 624-6380.
