The Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition (BBCC) was founded in 1993 by three friends who lived in Babylon.

Determined to fight against breast cancer by raising awareness and educating women, the BBCC with their dedicated volunteers undertook the task of completing a demographic survey to ascertain the incidence of breast cancer in Babylon.

From this, a volunteer driven grass-roots organization grew, which serves the entire Township of Babylon, including those with all gynecological cancers in addition to those with breast cancer. Today they provide direct patient services and support to help ease the burdens that breast and all gynecological cancers put on patients and their families/caregivers.

In addition to assisting in the basic needs of those battling cancer, they also reach out to the community at large, providing educational programs to encourage healthier lifestyles, which would decrease the still very high instance of these cancers in our community. Please note, if you do not live in this township, you can still reach out to the BBCC to find out who in your area can be of help to you.

The BBCC’s premier program is titled Lend a Helping Hand (LAHH). Since its inception in 1996, this unique patient service program provides much needed stress relief for breast cancer patients currently in treatment, as well as their families confronting diagnosis and ensuing treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation. Later on, the BBCC expanded the LAHH program to include Babylon Township women undergoing treatment for all types of gynecological cancers.

Some of the services this program offers include house cleaning, transportation to/from medical appointments, financial

Village Green Trees: As many of you may have already seen; the barricades surrounding and then the removal of the three large trees on the Village Green. In early August, during tropical storm Isaias, the three trees on Village Green lost several large limbs and branches. The center tree lost a substantial limb and many branches, which exposed a degree of hollowing of the center of the trunk of this tree.

Because of the storm damage to the trees the Village consulted with H. Edward Olsen, a licensed and certified arborist to evaluate all of the trees for their condition and safety.

Unfortunately, the trees could not be saved and they were recently taken down.

The Board of Trustees, with the assistance of a professional landscape design professional, will be evaluating tree replacement and landscape options that best suit the Village Green.

The following is an excerpt from the Village Code regarding Snow Emergencies (98-16) to remind and inform the community regarding snow emergencies. “All Village streets.

The parking of vehicles is prohibited on all public highways for an eighteenhour period upon declaration of a snow emergency by the Mayor.

A snow emergency shall be deemed to exist, and the Mayor shall have the right to declare a snow emergency, from the time when there are at least two inches of snow on the ground.”

In residential neighborhoods, please remove your cars from the street so our DPW crews can do the most effective job of clearing the snow.

We have learned that his office was in contact with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and they will continue to keep an eye on the progress (as we are also doing). The DOT will keep Senator Thomas’ office informed if there are any problems –and we will in turn keep you posted with any updates.

Public Skating Sessions Continued From 18 o 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. o 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. o 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Sunday, February 14th, the indoor Town Ice Skating Center will be open for the following public sessions: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“Even during these unprecedented times, we want to ensure our residents and their

families have recreational opportunities where they can stay safe and practice social distancing,” said Supervisor Saladino. “We welcome families to our ice rinks to enjoy these special public sessions.”

Capacity is limited at each location, and face masks must be worn at all times. The outdoor ice rinks are located at Marjorie Post Park, Unqua and Merrick Roads in Massapequa,

and at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park, 7900 Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury. The Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center is located within Bethpage Community Park at 1001 Stewart Avenue, in Bethpage.
