Fulfilling his pledge to taxpayers, Oyster Bay Town Receiver of Taxes Jeffrey Pravato today announced extended office hours on for property owners looking to pay their taxes without penalty. Although the First Half of the 2020 General Tax Levy was due on January 1st, taxes can be paid without penalty through February 10th.

As such, the Tax Office in Town Hall North in Oyster Bay and Town Hall South in Massapequa will be opened for extended hours between 8:00 am to 6:00 pm on both Friday, February 7th and Monday, February 10th.

The Charity of The Month for February is: Girls on the Run of Long Island www.gotrlongisland.org Girls on the Run is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. They run a physical activity-based positive youth development program that is designed to enhance girls’ social, psychological and physical skills and behaviors to help them successfully navigate life experiences.

Their upcoming spring season will begin the week of March 16th and is shaping up to be their largest season yet!

What to expect in a 10-week curriculum: Each 10-week curriculum includes lessons that specifically target helping girls improve in competence, confidence, caring, character, connection and contribution.

All coaches are trained to teach as intended, while building relationships with and between girls, creating a positive, inclusive environment and supporting individual improvement.

During the 10 weeks, girls will also be inspired to build lives of purpose and to make a meaningful contribution to community and society. Each team will create and execute a community service project.

They serve girls in grades 3-5 and inspire them to be joyful, healthy and confident by using a fun, interactive curriculum, which creatively integrates running! Meeting twice a week in small teams for a 10-week season, a volunteer coach will teach girls life skills through engaging lessons and fun movement activities. At each season’s conclusion, all girls from teams across Long Island will meet up for a celebratory 5K running event. This year’s 5K event is scheduled for Saturday, June 6 at Hofstra University, where over 1000 individuals will run, volunteer or spectate to celebrate!

Girls will learn skills and strategies such as how to manage emotions, help others, make intentional decisions and resolve conflict, that they use at home, school and with friends.

Long Island, NY, January 16, 2020 — The American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all, together with its signature movement, Go Red for Women®, encourages you to ‘wear red and give’ today on National Wear Red Day® to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease: women’s greatest health threat.

Cardiovascular disease kills one woman every 80 seconds and takes more lives than all forms of cancer combined. Heart disease and stroke also impact the lives of one in three women – or a third of mothers, sisters and friends – and cardiac events are on the rise in young women in their 20s.

While 80 percent of cardiovascular diseases can be prevented through modest changes to diet and lifestyle, disparities in care for women’s heart and brain health continue to exist.

Saltzman Selected To Represent New York State On National Disney Baseball Team Congratulations to Farmingdale, Saltzman East Memorial 4th grader Grayson Aristy who was selected by Game Day USA to be a representative from New York State on their National Disney Baseball Team. The team recently competed in the New Year´s Eve Baseball Classic at Disney ESPN World Wide of Sports. The Game Day USA 9U team was made up of players from Texas, Michigan, Florida, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Wisconsin and New York.

They competed against some of the best 9U players in the country. Aristy who plays in a very competitive travel team on Long Island (TF Longhorns) was selected back in August at weekend showcase here in New York.

Grayson, a left-hander, played 1B, CF and pitched for the 9U select team and was a big contributor at the Disney Classic. Aristy recorded a save in game one of the tournament and went onto hit .750 for the week with several runs batted in.

In the Championship game, Game Day USA was trailing 7-1 in the second inning and was able to chip away with a 10 run inning in the fifth, Aristy recorded 4 scoreless innings pitching in relief to earn the win and added two RBI’s. The team celebrated a come-back win from behind to take home first place with an 11-7 victory. Overall, it was an amazing experience

for the 4th grader who enjoyed making new friends and memories that will last a lifetime. At the end of the championship game, when

asked how he felt, Aristy proudly lifted his trophy and said, “This is why we came to Florida”.
