“The Town’s Toddler Arts & Crafts Program is a wonderful way to help support your toddler’s development through nurturing their artistic expression,” said Councilwoman Walsh. “Classes will certainly fill up quickly as this program offers children a great wintertime activity.”
The Toddler Arts
& Crafts Program is 6 weeks in duration, beginning January 31st, and residents who sign their toddler up for the program must choose one class per week, per child. Classes will take place on:
• Tuesdays at 10am for two-year olds and 11am for three-and-four-year olds at the Hicksville Athletic Center in Hicksville;
• Wednesdays at 10am for two-year olds and 11am for three-and-fouryear olds at the Ice Skating Center Community Room in Bethpage; and

Pravato Reminds Residents To Avoid Penalties
By Paying General Taxes Prior To February 10th
Oyster Bay Town
Receiver of Taxes Jeffrey Pravato reminds residents that the First Half of the 2023 General Tax Levy was due on January 1st, but can be paid without penalty through February 10th. Please be certain to sign your check, payable to Jeffrey P. Pravato, Receiver of Taxes. Indicate your property’s S.D. Code, Section, Block, Lot, and Phone number on the check.
“The Town of Oyster Bay did not raise taxes for 2023, however, the General Tax bill also includes amounts for Nassau County and special districts. New York State Laws allows my office to provide taxpayers with a 40-day penalty free period from the date the tax is due during which payment may be made without penalty,” added Receiver Pravato.
“After the 40 days, State Law requires a one percent
penalty be added for each month the tax remains unpaid, retroactive to January 1st. Don’t delay, make your payment before February 10th and ensure you aren’t paying more out of pocket than you need to.”
Taxes can be paid inperson at Town Hall North (74 Audrey Avenue in Oyster Bay) and at Town Hall South (977 Hicksville Road in Massapequa) daily from 9:00am to 4:45pm to assist residents and accept payments with either a check, cash or credit card.*
Both indoor offices and walkup outdoor windows are staffed to assist the public. On February 9th and 10th, both offices will be open from 8:00am to 6:00pm. When paying in person, residents are reminded to bring the entire tax bill. Drop Boxes have been installed at both Town Hall North and Town
Hall South for residents to make payments when the Tax Office is closed.
Residents who prefer to mail in their payments should send them to the Office of the Receiver of Taxes, 74 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, N.Y. 117711539. Please be certain to sign your check, and make it payable to Jeffrey P. Pravato, Receiver of Taxes. Indicate your property’s S.D. Code, Section, Block, Lot and phone number on the check, along with your payment stub. Residents should NOT write on, fold, staple or otherwise deface the tax stub as it can cause the computer system to reject the payment.
Taxpayers can access 2023 General Tax information at www. oysterbaytown.com. Residents may view tax bills, print out a hard copy, or pay taxes with an ACH check payment
using a checking account for a service fee of $1.75 cents*, or by credit card for a much higher fee* charged by the credit card companies. *Town of Oyster Bay receives no portion of this fee.
For more information on property taxes and/or payments, residents may call at (516) 624-6400 or email receiveroftaxes@ oysterbay-ny.gov. Callers are requested to have the school district, section, block and lot numbers of the property in question available. This information is listed on the tax bill and on the property deed.

The Charity of the Month for January is Pal-O-Mine Equestrian
www.pal-o-mine.org
Pal-O-Mine Equestrian is a local non-profit organization that began in 1995 as a therapeutic horseback riding program for individuals with disabilities and other vulnerable populations. They grew from having two programs, eight horses and 80 students per week to 11 programs, 25 horses and 400 students per week - and they continue to grow today! “Our mission has been, and continues to be, to provide a comprehensive therapeutic equine program using horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing,” said Lisa Gatti, Founder and CEO of Pal-O-Mine Equestrian. “We proudly serve individuals with disabilities, those who have been abused or neglected, the military and the impoverished.”
Their location in Islandia offers an unequaled setting for equestrian activities, with a 20-stall barn on 13 acres, handicapped accessible bathrooms, a 100’ x 120’ indoor arena with state-of-the-art-footing and a rider hoisting system, 3 outdoor riding arenas, classrooms, accessible playground, a greenhouse and a wellness center.
Looking back on 2022, Pal-O-Mine logged 4,250 hours of Volunteer Hours and 86,400 Client Contact Hours. “2022 was about inspiring one another to reach common goals and emerging stronger,” said Lisa. “Our volunteers are an integral part of the day to day
operations at Pal-O-Mine. We all work together to serve our clients the best we can.”
They also aded four new animals to their gang; three horses and a Great Pyrenees Mountain Dog, Luca who is a natural at his job of watching over the herd. Bubba, one of the horses was generously donated to them by the Morris Family. He is an amazing lesson horse and is a client favorite in their equine yoga program. Another one of the horses is Alana, a pro at teaching new students to ride independently. Lastly, Sunflower is their newest horse, which is enjoying to learn about all the different programs held at Pal-O-Mine.
“2023 will be a year of physical growth with our new educational center and treatment clinic, as well as spiritual growth by continuing to serve the many who need our 13 acre farm and herd to help them heal from trauma, grow in personal strength and learn new things to brighten their future.”
If you would like more information about getting involved with this organization, please call 631-348-1389 or visit www.pal-o-mine.org.

Sanitation, Recycling Collection Modified For MLK Holiday
Mayor Ralph Ekstrand
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and myself, we wish everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year!! We hope everyone enjoyed the holiday season and were thrilled to have many community holiday events in the Village in November/ December. Thanks to all that planned, participated and promoted the events!
Santa and the Farmingdale Village Fire Department drove throughout the Village spreading holiday cheer December 10th and 11th. Thank you to all involved from the Fire Department! (photo courtesy of the Village Fire Department)
Also on December 10th, the 9th Annual Long Island Gingerbread House Competition was held at The Chocolate Duck. The Gingerbread House entries were amazingcongratulations to all participants and contest winners. The competition was a success, over 90 votes were cast for the People’s Choice award, and donations were collected for Long Island Cares. Thanks to Harry and Christina of The Chocolate Duck, John Capobianco and the Farmingdale Village Cultural Arts Committee, and Long Island Cares.
Farmingdale Village held an Early, Family Friendly New Year’s Eve Celebration on the Village Green to ring in 2023. Even with the light drizzle, the celebration was a success, with live music by the Electric Dudes, free hot chocolate, noisemakers and glow sticks - and the ball drop right before 9pm. Thanks to all who came to celebrate, the Farmingdale Business Improvement District, Farmingdale Village Fire Department, Farmingdale Breakfast Rotary Club (hot cocoa sponsor), Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce, Trustee Walter Priestley and the Farmingdale Village Board.
On December 2nd, Vision Long Island held its 21st Annual Long Island Smart Growth Summit at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury. There were over 1,000 attendees - Long Island Community, Business and Government Leaders,
united to work to help bring resources to Main Street businesses, advance downtown redevelopment, affordable housing, and infrastructure.
Farmingdale Village Trustee Cheryl Parisi attended the conference, and I participated in the state of the towns and villages plenary morning session. Congratulations Eric Alexander and all at Vision Long Island, for their tremendous ongoing efforts.
An excerpt of my commentary: “Farmingdale has done a tremendous amount of smart growth and re-development. Right now, we have shovel in the ground on the first 100% affordable workforce housing unit; 71 units, on Fulton Street / Route 109, income levels of $55,000 to $90,000. And we are very proud that we have the first 100% workforce housing
unit - shovel in the ground, in Nassau County”. To view/access the morning session - visit Vision Long Island’s Facebook page, or via this link: https:// fb.watch/hP6u36n9EH/. (photo courtesy of Vision Long Island)
We look forward to 2023 with continued community events, check the website for more details, www. farmingdalevillage.com. Just a reminder to shop and dine local, support the local merchants.
Farmingdale Village Public Meetings are held in the Village Courtroom at Village Hall, 361 Main Street, and follow local COVID-19 protocols. Members of the public may access upcoming meeting dates and more details on the Village website, www. farmingdalevillage.com.

Pearl Harbor 81st Commemorative Anniversary At Airpower Museum
On Sunday, December 7, 1941 the Japanese launched a surprise military assault on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. On December 8, 1941 President Franklin Delano Roosevelt gave his famous “date which will live in infamy” speech and following that Congress declared war and the United States entered into
World War II. Eighty one years later Veterans from all branches of the service came together to commemorate the anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor at the Air Power Museum in Farmingdale, New York.
Veterans from World War II ranging in age from 93 to 102 were honored and given certificates
for their service. During the ceremony a bugler played taps in memory of those that perished on that day. Color Guards were provided by the Navy Reserves and other veterans organizations.
Over 200 Veterans and family members as well as local elected officials attended the commemorative ceremony.
Bank Of America Donates $50K To Island Harvest, LI Cares Through Booster And Flu Shot Initiative
Island Harvest Food Bank and Long Island Cares-The Harry Chapin Regional Food Bank received a $50,000 donation from Bank of America to help address food insecurity on Long Island. This donation represents the second phase of the employee booster campaign launched earlier this year, which provided $75,000 to Island Harvest and Long Island Cares.

vaccine or booster, while also investing in the community. Bank of America donated $50 per shot to the organizations for each employee on Long Island who received a coronavirus vaccine, booster shot and/or flu shot before November 23.
“The economic fallout from the coronavirus has significantly increased demand for services from Island Harvest and Long Island Cares,” said Marc
Perez, President, Bank of America Long Island. “Despite the difficulties of recent years, these organizations have remained steadfast in their work to address food insecurity. Likewise, Bank of America continues to be deeply committed to supporting hunger relief efforts on Long Island.”
An estimated 230,000 people on Long Island face food insecurity. Since the onset of the pandemic,
Bank of America has provided $575,000 to Island Harvest and Long Island Cares to support local hunger-relief efforts. Bank of America has committed nearly $19 million to local hunger relief organizations across the U.S. and Puerto Rico through its two employee booster campaigns.
