14-Year-Old Robert Levey II Is A Rising Star

Robert Levey II is a 14-year-old Long Islander, turning dreams into reality while gaining lots of attention. Robert recently won “Outstanding Vocalist” under 18 at “The 43rd Young Artist Awards” in LA and 2 weeks later was nominated for the same category at “The Josie Music Awards” which were held at The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. You can find him in the recording studio when not acting or modeling. Robert, most recently, is turning heads from industry professionals with his incredible voice. Totaling millions of views across social media on his cover songs, mostly made up of old-time classics. He even has three covers, of which he also sings in Italian. The Charity of the Month for November is Association for Mental Health and Wellness

As home to 72,000 military veterans, Suffolk County has more veterans than any of the other 61 counties in New York State. With Veterans Day occurring in November, this month is a fitting time to recognize local organizations that serve the veterans community, such as our Charity of the Month, the Association for Mental Health and Wellness (MHAW).

MHAW offers a wide spectrum of assistance to Suffolk County veterans in respect to affordable housing, medical and mental health assistance, peer support, and other services. This column focuses on MHAW’s permanent housing for veterans with support services.

In October of 2021, MHAW celebrated the opening of three new homes, adding to their capacity to offer permanent residences for formerly homeless veterans. The three houses became available through Suffolk County’s “Housing Our Homeless Heroes Act” where abandoned properties are transferred to non-profit organizations that serve at-risk and homeless veterans. The initiative is funded through New York State’s Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance’s “Homeless Housing and Assistance Program.”

Ashanta Murray, a Navy veteran of eight years with three young children, is now living in one of the homes. “I was so proud to serve in the Navy – and to come home and try to find housing was such a struggle,” Ms. Murray said. “To serve your country and come home to face homelessness should never happen. This home for me and my children has been such a blessing.”

Aside from a new home, veterans receive such support services as employment and training opportunities, counseling, peer support, independent living skills training, linkage to primary healthcare, substance use disorder treatment, mental healthcare, childcare and other benefits.

The goal of this kind of permanent housing and support services is to prevent

chronic illness, promote a healthy and safe environment, promote wellbeing, prevent mental health and substance use disorders and

to help veterans continue to live in their communities in a manner consistent with their abilities and goals. MHAW aims to purchase and rehab additional homes in the future.

“We owe our veterans deep gratitude and must ensure that they have the opportunity to thrive,” said Colleen Merlo, CEO of MHAW. “They cannot do that without safe and consistent housing. It is an honor to be part of this program.”

For several years, MHAW focused its attention on offering temporary housing for homeless veterans at a shelter in Yaphank. Through the efforts of MHAW along with community and government partners, Long Island has made significant strides in addressing homelessness among veterans in recent years. “We have reached a point where when a veteran is homeless, they do not remain homeless for very long,” said Ms. Merlo. “We are proud to have helped to support this trend through our affordable and permanent housing work as well as our focus on employment opportunities and support services to veterans and their families.”

NOTICE OF FILING OF SUNRISE WIND LLC’S PHASE I ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND CONSTRUCTION PLAN FOR THE SUNRISE WIND NEW YORK CABLE PROJECT

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE, on November 18, 2022, pursuant to Article VII of the New York Public Service Law (the “PSL”), Sunrise Wind LLC (the “Applicant”), a 50/50 joint venture between Orsted North America Inc. and Eversource Investment LLC, will le a copy of its proposed Phase I Environmental Management and Construction Plan (“EM&CP”) with the New York State Public Service Commission (the “NYSPSC”) related to the Sunrise Wind New York Cable Project (the “Project”). The Project will deliver power from the Sunrise Wind Farm (“SRWF”)—which is under a 25-year Offshore Wind Renewable Energy Certi cate (“OREC”) contract with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (“NYSERDA”)—located in federal waters on the Outer Continental Shelf, to the existing electrical grid in New York State.

Construction associated with Phase I of the Project includes: the establishment of several laydown yards and work areas necessary to construct the Project, civil works at the Project’s new onshore converter station (the “OnCS–DC”), certain civil works in New York State Department of Transportation-controlled rights of way, the installation and use of certain equipment in the Intercoastal Waterway adjacent to the Smith Point County Park, and expansion work at the existing Holbrook Substation. All of the work associated with Phase I of the Project will occur in the Town of Brookhaven. The Applicant intends to le its post-Phase I EM&CP(s), which will cover the remainder of the scope of the Project, in 2023. The post-Phase I EM&CP(s) will similarly include the opportunity for public review and comment prior to approval.

PHASE I EM&CP

The EM&CP describes the construction procedures and environmental protection measures proposed to be used for the Project, including but not limited to: the location of the Project, proposed construction methods, construction noti cations, vegetation removal, traffic management, noise minimization, water quality standards, contaminated soil and water handling, stormwater management, terrestrial and marine rare, threatened, and endangered species protections, and many other measures to be implemented during the construction, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning of the Project. SRW developed the EM&CP in conformance with the requirements of the conditions appended to the Project’s Certi cate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need (“CECPN”) and in consultation with the New York State Department of Public Service, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, New York State Department of State, New York State Department of Transportation, and the Town of Brookhaven.

Please reference Case 20-T-0617 when making any comments or requesting further information regarding the Project. Comments on any subsequent revisions to the EM&CP, in response to the aforementioned written comments, shall be submitted within 15 days of service by electronic means of said revisions.

Ethical Friends of Children, a program helping needy families on Long Island, seeks clothing (tops, bottoms, pjs, sweaters and socks) in certain sizes. Specific sizes are: GIRLS: 3-4, 4-5 and 9-10 and BOYS: 7-8 and 9-10.

Ethical Friends of Children is an outreach program of the Ethical

Humanist Society of Long Island., established in 1985. “We assist more than 2,500 children and their families each year by providing them clothing for children from newborn to size 12 as well as infant furniture at no cost,” says Pat Spencer of Port Washington. The “store”
