Health Is Focus Of Town Of Islip Senior Fair

Your Autumn Family Getaway Awaits

The Town of Islip hosted a Health Fair at the Caesar Trunzo Senior Center. Numerous agencies throughout the Town participated including Catholic Health, who provided Flu shots and various health screenings. In attendance were Suffolk County Office for the Aging;

Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office; PSEG; National Grid; Alzheimer organizations; Elder Law attorneys; representatives from Assisted Living facilities; physical therapists offices and more.

“By hosting these types of events, we are providing an opportunity for residents

to gather important information and resources that enable them to make educated decisions about their healthcare needs, and thus live healthy, active, longer and more productive lives,” said Islip Town Supervisor, Angie Carpenter.

Good, Old-Fashioned Yard Sale

Everyone loves a good, old-fashioned yard sale. The people of the Islip United Methodist Church, 350 Main Street, Islip, especially love yard sales! For the past twelve years, the members of the Methodist Church have held a huge, churchwide garage sale to raise money for their various mission projects.

Bird Walk At Jones Beach

Join the South Shore Audubon Society for a bird walk in the west end of Jones Beach State Park on Sunday, October 8, starting at 9:00 a.m. The group will meet in the Jones Beach Coast Guard Station Parking Area. The entrance, for the Coast Guard Station and West End Boat Basin, is on Bay Drive going west. Bring binoculars.

High School Sophomores Earn Undefeated Victory At Justice Institute

East Islip High School

sophomores Delaney Demasi, Ava Michele and Olivia Stepanenko recently showcased their legal talents in “The EDNY Justice Institute: Crime, the Constitution and the Courts.” This program, hosted by the Eastern District of New York Chapter of the Federal Bar Association at the federal courthouse in Central Islip and Touro Law Center, provided a

valuable opportunity for hands-on learning. The educational endeavor, part of the “Justice for All: Courts and the Community initiative, aims to connect legal education with the community.

During the program, students were provided with a unique opportunity to delve into the intricacies of the justice system. They attended classes conducted by a distinguished array of professionals, including

FBI agents, deputy U.S. marshals, a U.S. Secret Service agent, federal prosecutors and criminal defense lawyers. These sessions offered insights into the roles and responsibilities of each participant within the court system, enriching the students’ understanding of legal proceedings.

Guided by seasoned lawyers and Touro Law student Vanessa Constantino, the

sophomores were tasked with preparing a mock trial case. This practical experience allowed them to develop critical skills in legal argumentation and communication. Their efforts culminated in an impressive victory as they achieved an undefeated record in a mock trial tournament against teams from across Long Island. Their triumph in the intense final round against Massapequa,

presided over by judges Joseph Bianco and Joanna Seybert, showcased their exceptional prowess and dedication to the art of mock trial advocacy.

“Winning the tournament felt great and shows how

much we learned. We feel really confident to compete in the New York State tournament this year.”
