Auxiliary 18 located at 141 Carleton Avenue in East Islip, will be hosting a School Supply Drive running through September 7th, 2023.

Items to be collected are new school supplies for students in the area. All the basic tools: Pencils, crayons, markers, colored

Islip Educator Receives Nassau BOCES

NASTECH NASTAR Award

This past June, Elizabeth Fazio, a fifth-grade science teacher in the Islip UFSD, was recognized by Nassau BOCES and the Nassau Association of School Technologists (NASTECH) as a pioneering educator who has contributed significantly to the advancement of technology in education.

Ms. Fazio was honored at the fifth annual Nassau Association of School Technologists Award Recipient (NASTAR) awards ceremony, held at the Nassau BOCES Brookville Outdoor and Environmental Education Center.

Ms. Fazio has taught multiple grades on the elementary level for more than 20 years, serving as a grade-five science teacher for the past seven years. During this time, her skills and abilities

propelled her into the role of educational tech expert. She has transformed her classroom into a innovative workspace, integrating vital technological resources, such as specialized software including Book Creator, Nearpod, Kid OYO and Google Workspace, as well as video science experiments. She even created her own YouTube channel, giving her students access to class lessons and experiments whenever they might need it. Most recently, Ms. Fazio was invited to Finland, where she was recognized as a master teacher, and was given the opportunity to explore and learn from Finnish education culture.

every day,” said her award nominator Tim Brush. “She has done an incredible job of preparing her students, not only for their educational future, but also for the digital age that they are living in.”

The NASTAR awards were created by the Nassau BOCES NASTECH Service to honor educators for their innovation, leadership and support of technology initiatives in their school districts. Each recipient is selected by their district based on this criterion. This year, a total of 27 Nassau County educators were acknowledged for their achievements in a ceremony conducted by Nassau BOCES NASTECH and Data Privacy and Security Service Supervisor Laura Pollak and Program Specialist Barbara Deal.

Momentum Seniors Help Prepare East Islip Students For School

For the third consecutive year, East Islip’s Momentum at South Bay for Rehabilitation and Nursing sponsored a program to donate backpacks and school supplies to needy students from the East Islip School

District. Senior citizens from local community clubs recently helped stuff the backpacks on Aug. 10.

“Thanks to Momentum’s kind donation, we are able to provide 144 backpacks with basic school kits to our elementary

students for families in need,” Superintendent Paul Manzo said. “This donation makes all the difference for these struggling families. We look forward to partnering with Momentum in future endeavors.”

Preservation Long Island Celebrates Its 75th Anniversary With Special Events And Programs Through December 2023

Preservation Long Island is delighted to announce its 75th year in operation as the only regional notfor-profit organization dedicated to historic preservation on geographic Long Island. From events and exhibitions to preservation advocacy and on-site student education, their wide-ranging programs connect Long Islanders to the region’s diverse and distinctive past.

To help celebrate this 75th Anniversary milestone, special events are planned including, a new exhibition, and redesigned house tours and special programs at Preservation Long Island’s historic properties across Long Island.

Originally founded in 1948 as the Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities, the organization adopted Preservation Long Island as a new name in 2017 to communicate more plainly its commitment to advancing the importance of preserving all facets of the region’s history through advocacy, education, and stewardship of historic sites and collections.

Preservation Long Island’s approach to historic preservation on Long island is comprehensive and includes:

• Interpreting three Preservation Long Island owned historic sites in Suffolk County.

• Providing free advisory services in communities across Long Island for individuals and groups engaged in local preservation efforts. Advocacy work includes the Endangered Historic Places Program and Preservation Awards.

• Maintaining exceptional examples of regional material culture.

Preservation Long Island’s collections

of over 8,000 objects and archival materials is considered one of the most significant regional assemblages of decorative arts and objects in New York State. Hundreds of images from the collection are now available to browse online.

• Developing exhibitions that explore Long Island’s remarkable material and cultural past at their headquartersGallery in Cold Spring Harbor.

• Presenting innovative educational programs about local history and the built environment at Preservation Long Island owned historic properties as well as on-site programs for school groups.

• Publishing scholarly works and books.

Preservation Long Island’s groundbreaking publications on Long Island history and decorative arts remain the go-to sources for studying Long Island’s heritage.

“Long Island Cars” Super Swap Sunday CAR SHOW & SWAP MEET

“Long Island Cars” Car Show & Swap Meet returns to the LICH Amphitheater at Bald Hill in Farmingville on Sunday September 10th. Hundreds of custom, collectible and classic automobiles, from the 1930’s to present, will be on display at this competitively judged event with over fifty classes and trophies. Acres of vendors will

at Tufts and Brown University and served as chief resident. She then returned to her hometown where she has been practicing for the past 15 years and was appointed Chief of Radiation Medicine at Huntington Hospital. She has given many survivorship lectures

both in hospital and community settings including active participation in the Northwell Wellness Center. She has also served on various physician panels for community education and holds certificates in Nutrition from Cornell University.
