The Voltz’s small business, Super You Inc. was the proud sponsor and theme of Hospice Care Network’s Children’s Bereavement Camp in 2006.

Mid-Year Review: How Are You Doing?

It seems like yesterday that we were throwing confetti, tooting horns, and saying goodbye to 2022. Today, we are just about halfway done with 2023. That means…it’s time for a midyear review.

I do love this time of the year. It’s a great opportunity to evaluate my progress both in business and my personal life. A midyear review is not just a list of tasks accomplished or goals to reach; it’s a chance to look at the path we are on in our businesses and personal lives and make changes while we still can.

In business, whether it’s your own or you work for a company, a midyear review can give you a clear picture of performance against the goals that you set at the start of the year. Done correctly, you can measure financials, evaluate strategies, and determine how happy your customers are with your

product or service. It also allows you to check in with your employees, partners, and suppliers. Are they motivated and inspired, or do they appear disengaged. This week is the best time to ask them what they need to achieve their goals in the second half of the year. Teamwork makes the dream work!

At the same time, it’s important to do a personal review. How are you feeling? What’s keeping you up at night? What are the biggest

challenges that are in front of you? The balance between work and personal life is critical to success for both parts of your life! You can’t pay your personal bills if business is bad, and you can’t succeed in business if you become disabled.

If you claim that you don’t have time for your health, hobbies, and relationships, find the time! If you’ve been thinking about learning a new language, reading more books, or joining a running club, do it!

If you’ve had success reaching your midyear milestones, make sure you take time to celebrate! The recognition you give to yourself and the people around you will fuel your motivation and selfconfidence going forward.

As I said, I love this time of year because it reminds me of how fortunate I am, and we all are, to live on Long Island in the summertime.

“The Blue Point Oyster” is an exceptional documentary that highlights the Town of Islip’s efforts to enhance shellfish production and improve the water quality of the Great South Bay. This insightful film underscores the Town’s commitment to environmental preservation and emphasizes the integral role of community engagement in achieving these significant milestones.

The Fair Media Council, widely recognized as one of the oldest and most successful media watchdogs in the country, bestowed this honor upon Smith and Licker for their exceptional work in producing a documentary that captivated audiences and inspired action. The Folio award serves as a testament to the Town’s unwavering dedication and ability to raise awareness about the importance of preserving our environment.

Town of Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter expressed her admiration and praise for Smith and Licker’s contributions, stating, “Caroline and Gary have truly excelled in bringing attention to our town’s incredible efforts to enhance shellfish production and restore the water quality of the Great South Bay. ‘The Blue Point Oyster’ documentary showcases the Town of Islip’s commitment to environmental stewardship and the power of community collaboration. Caroline Smith, producer of the documentary, also conveyed her gratitude for the recognition of the documentary. Gary Licker, who shot, edited and directed the documentary, shared his enthusiasm for the award and its significance, saying, “I am deeply honored to receive this recognition for this documentary on Long Island’s Great South Bay. ‘The Blue Point Oyster’ project has been a labor of love, and I am grateful for the opportunity to showcase the Town of Islip’s commitment to environmental conservation. The Town of Islip Shellfish Hatchery, under the supervisor of DEC Commissioner Marty Bellew, produces nearly 25% of the total number of caged oysters harvested in New York State. Each oyster cleans nearly 50 gallons of water per day.

The Town of Islip extends its gratitude to the Fair Media Council for this recognition. The Town encourages individuals and communities to support and actively participate in endeavors aimed at enhancing shellfish production and safeguarding the water quality of the Great South Bay.

2023 NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FINALIST - East Islip High School senior Isabella Fantauzzi was honored at the East Islip School District Board of Education’s June 7 meeting for being named a 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program Finalist.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that they are hosting the 45th Annual Jones Beach Volleyball Tournament comprised of 6-player co-ed teams. This event will take place on Saturday, July 22, 2023 and will be held rain or shine.

The tournament will begin at 9:00AM on the volleyball courts at Central Mall Field 4 at Jones Beach State Park. The first round of matches will be played as a round robin. All teams are guaranteed to play seven games. The top two teams from each round robin bracket will advance on to the quarterfinals which will decide the two final teams. Cash prizes will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place teams. The

Town To Enact Quality Of Life Court

unanimously approved the first step, advertising for a public hearing to enact Local Law 4, establishing chapter 69 of the Islip Town code, entitled “Bureau of Administrative Adjudication.”

“This will help us address many of the quality-of-life issues here in our Town,

and resolve them quickly, conveniently and directly with our residents. Far too often, these matters get hung up in District Court, being postponed repeatedly, rather than being addressed and resolved. The objective is to answer any additional questions residents may

have, with the goal being compliance,” said Islip Town Supervisor, Angie Carpenter. The court will address civil violations such as violations for decks; pools; un-registered vehicles; litter and debris and building permits.

Proceedings are expected to occur twice

a month, and will be handled by a rotation of four administrative law judges appointed. Representatives from the Town’s various departments will be on hand to facilitate the process. Town of Islip’s court is anticipated to begin in 2025. This is

something that is already being done in the towns of Huntington and Babylon. Public comment can be made during the hearing set for Tuesday, July 18th, 2023 at 2 pm at Islip Town Hall, or to the Islip Town Clerk via email at townclerk@islipny.gov.
