“These types of concerts and opportunities do not happen without the support

of our board of education, superintendent and assistant superintendents, and the work that each of us do every single day,” Dr. Wottawa said. “And

Middle School Robotics Students Advance To FLL Championship

– consisting of East Islip Middle School eighth graders John Haanraadts, Sachin Kamath and Nicholas Selvaggio along with three friends from other schools –successfully competed against 117 other teams in the FIRST LEGO

League robotics qualifying tournament, held on Feb. 11 at Huntington High School.

The Galactic Jedi Space Bot Masters earned two first place awards for Robot Performance, for the team that scores the most points during the robot game, and Core Values, which goes to the team that displays

extraordinary enthusiasm and shows each other and other teams respect at all times. As a result of their exceptional performance, the team has advanced to the FIRST Long Island FLL Challenge Championship, to be held on March 10 at Hicksville High School.

1. Identification and number of poll watchers. Poll watchers shall be required to identify themselves to the School District Clerk no less than seventy-two (72) hours prior to the election at which time they will be provided with an identification tag indicating “Poll Watcher.”

Such previously identified poll watchers shall sign in with the School District Clerk or her designee upon arrival at the polling place. One (1) poll watcher for each election district will be permitted per organization at any given time. No candidate may act as a poll watcher.

2. Voting booths. Poll watchers will not be permitted behind the voting booths at any time during voting hours.

3. Location of poll watchers

An area, with a full view of the polls, will be designated for poll watchers.

4. Final vote tally

Following the recording of the vote by the School District Clerk and inspectors of election, poll watchers will be permitted time to view the voting totals. Poll watchers are not permitted behind the inspectors while the tally is being taken by the School District Clerk and inspectors.

5. Miscellaneous

Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) is pleased to inform Islip residents about the local Suffolk County Office for the Aging Winter 2024 Senior Advocate Schedule. Senior advocates are County representatives who come out into the community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies.

Environmental Scholarships

The South Shore Audubon Society is offering two $1,000 scholarships for College juniors, seniors, or graduate students earning a degree in the areas of biological or environmental science. This includes wildlife management, forestry, animal behavior, ecology, marine biology, oceanography, mammalogy, ornithology or the field of sustainable and renewable energy. Previous winners have used their scholarships to help purchase books, to pay for travel expenses to field sites, for specialized equipment or other educational needs.

To be eligible for the Scholarships, applicants must be residents of one of the areas listed at www.ssaudubon.org/areas-weserve.asp and/or attend a college

In the coming months, Senior Advocates will be visiting the following locations in the Town of Islip:

• Bay Shore Library, 1 S. Country Road, Brightwaters: Friday, March 15, 10 am – 12 pm

• Bishop McGann Housing, 200 Bishop McGann Drive, Central Islip: Monday, March 25, 10 am – 12 pm

• Brentwood Senior Nutrition, 16 Second Avenue, Brentwood: Wednesday, March 20, 11:30 am – 1:30 pm

• West Islip Senior Center, 90 Higbie Lane, West Islip: Thursday, March 14, 10 am – 12 pm
