NOTICE OF SPECIAL DISTRICT MEETING OF THE EAST ISLIP PUBLIC LIBRARY TOWN OF ISLIP COUNTY OF SUFFOLK, NEW YORK

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN to the qualified voters of the East Islip Union Free School District of East Islip, Suffolk County, New York, that pursuant to a resolution of the Board of Trustees of the East Islip Public Library adopted February 9, 2023 a Special School District Meeting will be held in the East Islip Public Library, 381 East Main Street, East Islip, New York on the 4th day of April 2023 at 10:00 O’clock a.m., prevailing time, for the purpose of voting by voting booths (paper ballot) upon a proposition adopting the annual budget for the support and maintenance of the East Islip Public Library for the fiscal year 2023/2024, and further providing for the levy of a tax upon the taxable property of said School District for that portion of the budget to be raised by taxes. Polls for the purpose of voting will be kept open between the hours of 10:00 O’clock a.m. and 9:00 O’clock p.m., prevailing time.

Shall the following resolution be adopted:

RESOLVED, that the Budget as proposed by the Board of Trustees of the East Islip Public Library of the Town of Islip, Suffolk County, New York, for the year 2023/2024 in

the amount of $4,190.000.00 to be approved and that the necessary tax therefore be levied upon the taxable property of the East Islip School District.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the election of one (1) member of the Board of Trustees of the East Islip Public Library will be held at the same time and place.

One Trustee will be elected for a full five (5) year term beginning July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2028, the last incumbent of said position is John E. Flynn.

The petition for the office of Trustee of the East Islip Public Library shall be directed to the Clerk of the School District; shall be signed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the School District or two (2%) percent of the voters who voted in the previous annual Library election of members to the Library Board of Trustees, whichever is greater, shall state the residence of each signer, the name and residence of the candidate being nominated for the office of Trustee of the East Islip Public Library and shall describe the specific vacancy on the Board of Trustees for which the candidate is nominated; which description shall include at least the length of term of office and the name of the last incumbent. Each petition shall be filed with the Clerk of the East Islip Union Free School District not later

that, pursuant to Section 2014 of the Education Law, personal registration of voters is required and no person shall be entitled to vote at said meeting and election whose name does not already appear on the register of the said School District, or who does not register as hereinafter provided except as may otherwise be provided by the Laws of the State of New York. Friends Of America’s Vet Dogs Chinese Auction Fundraiser April 15

A local volunteer community service group, whose mission is to provide service dogs to assist veterans-in-need, last week donated $12,700 to America’s Vet Dogs – sponsoring two more service dogs.

“Friends of America’s Vet Dogs” started in 2015 and has successfully sponsored 31 highly trained service dogs for veterans since. The group carefully names each dog to honor an unsung hero of our military, to honor someone who brought

great credit to our military or to recognize someone who significantly helped veterans-in-need.

Their most recent donation enabled the sponsoring of Service Dogs ‘Tammy’ and ‘Kyle’. In 2016 the group sponsored and named Service Dog ‘Sully’, who went on to serve President George W. Bush. ‘Sully’ now continues to serve wounded veterans at Walter Reed Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the following regulations will be in effect for the Special District Meeting for the East Islip Public Library to be held on April 4, 2023.

1. Identification and number of poll watchers.

Poll watchers shall be required to identify themselves to the District Clerk no less than seventy-two (72) hours prior to the election at which time they will be provided with an identification tag indicating “Poll Watcher.” Such previously identified poll watchers shall sign in with the District Clerk or her designee upon arrival at the polling place. One (1) poll watcher for each election district will be permitted per organization at any given time.

No candidate may act as a poll watcher.

2. Voting booths.

Poll watchers will not be permitted behind the voting booths at any time during voting hours.

3. Location of poll watchers. An area, with a full view of the polls, will be designated for poll watchers.

4. Final vote tally.

Following the recording of the vote by the District Clerk and inspectors of election, poll watchers will be permitted time to view the voting totals. Poll watchers are not permitted behind the inspectors while the tally is being taken by the District Clerk and inspectors.

5. Miscellaneous.

Any questions regarding poll watchers are to be directed to the District Clerk, Stephanie Parker. All actions of poll watchers shall be unobtrusive and may in no manner interfere with the ordinary conduct of the voting.

- East Islip High School senior Jenna Borelli recently signed a national letter of intent to play soccer this fall for the University of Scranton. She plans to major in nursing. A center midfielder, Borelli has played on the varsity soccer team since her freshman year. She awarded Scholar-Athlete, All-League and All-Conference honors as well as being named MVP in the Suffolk County championship game in 2021. Watching the transition to adulthood brings upon many mixed emotions for the parent of any child. One of the deep concerns for parents of children with disabilities is how their child will succeed as they mature into adults. Will they live a productive life? Will they be able to support themselves and have independence? Will they be able to experience the beauty of accomplishments and achievements? Will they have a great quality of life?

An important consideration is employment. Meaningful employment gives a sense of pride and allows one to contribute to society in a significant way. It also provides financial stability and helps people fulfill their goals and dreams. Sadly, statistics show that about 80% of adults with disabilities are unemployed, and those who are employed are often underemployed.

The Corporate Source (TCS) is a nonprofit organization based in Garden City. They have been fulfilling their mission for 26 years, which is to promote employment opportunities for people with disabilities and to provide services leading to independence and fulfillment.

TCS is both an employer and service provider, with employees in the NY Metro area, Long Island, the Albany Capital Region, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the USVI. 85% of their direct labor have some type of a disability, including intellectual and developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, physical disabilities or other medical impairments, visual and hearing impairments, or mental health di culties that qualify as a disability under government regulations.

TCS provides outsourcing services in several areas including facilities management, janitorial, mail-room and courier services, switchboard operations and kennel attendants. Candidates for employment are referred to TCS from many sources, such as the Adult Career and Continuing Education ServicesVocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) services which is o ered through the

TCS has proudly adapted their hiring process to accommodate people with disabilities. Once an application is completed, candidates have an interview and short skills assessment to determine if the job is an appropriate match. Specialized training or prior experience is helpful, but TCS will absolutely train qualified candidates. Once on the job, The Corporate South can provide job support when and where it is needed or collaborate with job coaches from other organizations to promote the best chances of success on the job. Another special service that this organization o ers to their employees, as well as to outside referrals, is what they call “benefits counseling”, which is where certified benefits counselors provide meaningful advice to adults, youth and veterans.

East Islip’s Girls Bowlers Finish As League Champions

East Islip High School’s girls bowling team capped off the regular season with a 38-2 victory over Eastport South Manor, making them undefeated League 3 champs with the longest active winning streak on Long Island. Junior Kailyn Bloch finished with the third highest average in Suffolk County, sophomore Dakota

Collins finished with the fourth highest and freshman Brooke Andresen finished with the sixth highest.

East Islip then competed in the county tournament on Feb. 11, finishing in second place. Bloch earned the overall highest average for the entire tournament with a 220.

this year’s East Islip team consisted of three All-State and All-County bowlers in Bloch, Collins and Andresen, as well as two All-League performers in Karen Mavrich and Nikki Miller. Delaney Crowe, Rosalie Crowe, Kara Lubin and Isabella Pollaro also played crucial roles throughout the season.
