Legislator Donnelly And County Office For The Aging Announce Babylon Winter Senior Advocate Schedule

Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) is pleased to inform Babylon residents about the local Suffolk County Office for the Aging Winter 2024 Senior Advocate Schedule.

Senior advocates are County representatives who come out into the community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies.

What Type of Cards Can Be Donated: Cards for any occasion will be accepted, with the exception of photos or inappropriate material.

The reverse side of the front cover must be free of writing.

We cannot accept cards with family photos, company names or logos.

In addition, we also accept new cards/envelopes that will be used for a letter writing campaign to soldiers overseas. Please leave these cards intact.

The Local Hibernians Inc. are pleased to announce that the annual John P. Reilly East Islip St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2024, led by the parade’s Grand Marshal, Shawn O’Neill, and the Ladies Aide to the Grand Marshal, Mary Phalen. The parade will step off at 2:00 pm from the East Islip Public Library and travel west to the grandstand at St. Mary’s RC Church.

A fundraiser to support the parade will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2024, from 12 PM-5 PM at Harp & Hound in Islip.

A $20 donation at the door includes assorted appetizers, live music by J&D Acoustics, and a cash bar. There will also be GRAND MARSHAL SHAWN O’NEILL raffle baskets and a 50/50 raffle.

East Islip High School’s wrestling team captured first place overall in the 36th annual Rocky Gilmore Classic, which the school hosted on Jan. 6. East Islip had 13 place winners and totaled 212.5 team points to win

the tournament for the second consecutive year.

Sophomore Rocco Destefano (at 101 pounds) and senior captain Nicholas Groneman (190 pounds) both were champions in their events.

Other finalists included

junior Anthony LiedtkeMerida (116 pounds), freshman Gryffin Alfalla (131 pounds), sophomore Sean O’Shea (138 pounds) and senior captain Anthony Avitabile (145 pounds). Junior Vasilios Dimou (160 pounds)

finished in third place, while senior captain Dylan Aristides (131 pounds) and sophomore Christan Horeis (190 pounds) both took fourth.

Finishing in fifth place were sophomore Noah Hodge (138 pounds),

junior Christopher Coleman (170 pounds), junior Chase Canfora (215 pounds) and sophomore Brian Csoban (285 pounds).

“It was a great day of wrestling,” coach Michael Longobardi said.

External Diploma Program The National External Diploma Program offers adults 21 and over, the opportunity to receive credit for their life experiences, and earn a high school equivalency diploma without the challenge of taking lengthy timed examinations. NEDP, is a competency based program for students who are unable to attend classes or who prefer to work at home. Successful

candidates for NEDP include former ESL students, students who have been out of school for prolonged periods of time, or students who fare better without the structure of tests.

This program is an alternative to other programs.
