The Charity of the Month for January is Pal-O-Mine Equestrian

Equestrian is a local non-profit organization that began in 1995 as a therapeutic horseback riding program for individuals with disabilities and other vulnerable populations. They grew from having two programs, eight horses and 80 students per week to 11 programs, 25 horses and 400 students per week - and they continue to grow today!

“Our mission has been, and continues to be, to provide a comprehensive therapeutic equine program using horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing,” said Lisa Gatti, Founder and CEO of Pal-O-Mine Equestrian. “We proudly serve individuals with disabilities, those who have been abused or neglected, the military and the impoverished.”

Their location in Islandia offers an unequaled setting for equestrian activities, with a 20-stall barn on 13 acres, handicapped accessible bathrooms, a 100’ x 120’ indoor arena with state-of-the-art-footing and a rider hoisting system, 3 outdoor riding arenas, classrooms, accessible playground, a greenhouse and a wellness center.

Looking back on 2022, Pal-O-Mine logged 4,250 hours of Volunteer Hours and 86,400 Client Contact Hours. “2022 was about inspiring one another to reach common goals and emerging stronger,” said Lisa. “Our volunteers are an integral part of the day to day

operations at Pal-O-Mine. We all work together to serve our clients the best we can.”

They also aded four new animals to their gang; three horses and a Great Pyrenees Mountain Dog, Luca who is a natural at his job of watching over the herd. Bubba, one of the horses was generously donated to them by the Morris Family. He is an amazing lesson horse and is a client favorite in their equine yoga program. Another one of the horses is Alana, a pro at teaching new students to ride independently. Lastly, Sunflower is their newest horse, which is enjoying to learn about all the different programs held at Pal-O-Mine.

Elderly Army Veteran Has Wish For Restaurant Gift Cards Granted

Ron Matonti, a resident of Medford, New York, had his wish for restaurant gift cards granted, thanks to the Long Island chapter of national nonprofit Twilight Wish Foundation. Matonti is an Army veteran who has congenital heart failure and is homebound. Because of this, he relies mostly on canned foods that are delivered to him from a local food pantry. His wish is to receive restaurant and food delivery gift cards so that he can order fresh food instead of just eating canned foods.

Matonti was nominated by Melanie Corinne, the project coordinator for the Joseph Dwyer Peer Support Project in Suffolk County. Long Island Chapter Director James Ciervo and Corinne delivered the gift card basket to Matonti on Friday, December 17th at his Medford home.

Twilight Wish Foundation is a nonprofit charitable organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight

Wish celebrations. Since its founding in 2003, Twilight Wish has granted over 4,810 individual wishes to seniors throughout the U.S. Twilight Wish grants wishes to seniors who are 65 and older or a permanent resident of a nursing home and earn less than 200% of poverty level. East Islip High Schoolers Hone Networking Skills At Mentor Me Mocktail Party

This year, the East Islip School Business Partnership added a new component to its long-running Mentor Me program, which provides East Islip High School students a firsthand shadow experience in the day and life of a professional. Students are afforded the opportunity to go to work instead of school to experience a career they are interested in pursuing. To help students prepare for the shadow experience, the new Mentor Me Mocktail Party networking event was added this November.

At this mini event, students honed their

speaking skills and learned how to quickly ask career-related questions. Professionals who volunteered to participate included Tom Cilmi of McBride Consultants, Jeanine Amato of Country Village Florist, Allstate agent Stephen Foray, Monica Miranda of Suffolk Transportation, Lisa Lee of the Winter Brothers Center for Autism, Town of Islip Historian George Munkenbeck, Joseph Gabriel of Joe Gabriel Architecture, Richard Scheinberg of Sunrise Counseling, Joanne Lein of Northwell Health, Casey Krebs of Cetera Investors, Bush Baraka of Grace’s

“This was truly an amazing event,” School Business Partnership coordinator Bridget Lopiccolo said. “The students were given a professional’s name on an index card, and then had to network the room and find their matched professional. This afforded the students the opportunity to practice their networking skills.

Fundraiser To Support East Islip St. Patrick’s Day Parade Is Set

The Local Hibernians Inc. are pleased to announce that the annual John P. Reilly East Islip St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2023, led by the parade’s Grand Marshal, Tom

McHugh, and the Ladies Aide to the Grand Marshal, Patricia Fitzpatrick. The parade will step off at 2:00 pm from the East Islip Public Library and travel west to the grandstand at St. Mary’s RC

Church.

A fundraiser to support the parade will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2023, from 2 PM-5 PM at Harp & Hound in Islip. A $20 donation at the door includes assorted appetizers, live music by J&D Acoustics, and a cash bar. There will also be raffle baskets and a 50/50 raffle.

The Long Island Music & Entertainment Hall Of Fame Now Open To The Public

The Long Island Music & Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF) is proud to announce the Grand Opening of the non-profit organization’s first physical facility, and Long Island’s very first Hall of Fame, on November 25th, 2022, at 97 Main Street, Stony Brook Village, NY. The location is near other LI cultural centers including The Long Island Museum, The

Jazz Loft and The Reboli Center.

“We are thrilled our organization has found a permanent home in such a wonderful location” said Ernie Canadeo, Chairman, LIMEHOF. “We’re excited to be able to share our world-class displays and unique memorabilia collection that showcases Long Island’s rich and diverse musical and entertainment history in

new and exciting ways. We feature different and exciting exhibits, displays, videos and education offerings that make the center a dynamic place for people to visit on a regular basis.”

The First Visitors North Babylon Resident Cliff Schlesinger was the first public visitor to the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame when it opened on November 25th at 12 Noon.

Schlesinger says he was most excited to see the first exhibit “Long Island’s Legendary Club Scene – 1960’s-1980’s” which was Schlesinger says he was most excited to see the first exhibit “Long Island’s Legendary Club Scene – 1960’s-1980’s” which was created by renowned designer Kevin O’Callaghan to be “a club crawl” through Long Island’s legendary 60’s, 70’s and 80’s club scene.

“We used to go everywhere from Speaks in Island Park to The Mad Hatter in Stony Brook,” Schlesinger said. “We used to go everywhere to hear Twisted Sister and Zebra and all those bands so I can’t wait to see that exhibit.”

Over 500 public visitors came out to see LIMEHOF on its opening weekend. Also, LIMEHOF Inductee Richie Cannata performed on stage along with Mark Newman and LIMEHOF Long Island Sound Award Winner Kerry Kearney.

The first exhibit features replicas of clubs, with videos of artists performing, ads, posters, instruments, and an exact replica of a typical 1960’s stage, with vintage equipment and sound system. There is also a permanent “Hall of Fame” with plaques and exhibits recognizing over 120 inductees, as well as areas for a library, classrooms

for educational programs and master classes, a surround -sound theater and a gift shop with music and entertainment themed memorabilia.

There are a wide range of compelling visual elements and rare artifacts on display throughout the building. Inducted artists who have donated their memorabilia include Billy Joel, Joan Jett, Debbie Gibson, Blue Öyster Cult, Twisted Sister, and families and estates of Harry Chapin, Guy Lombardo, John Coltrane, and so many more. Donations include various

musical instruments, performance outfits, vintage automobiles and motorcycles, rare posters and photos, handwritten lyrics, and much more.

Softball Players Continue The “Christmas Magic”

For this year’s Christmas Magic service project in December, East Islip High School’s varsity softball team shopped for at-risk kids from Community Counseling Services in Mastic Beach. The players then wrapped the gifts, which were delivered by coach Jason McGowan.

“I love doing Christmas Magic every year because it makes me feel so happy to help kids who aren’t fortunate enough to celebrate Christmas,” student Alyssa Benvengo said.

“Each and every year we look forward to our Christmas Magic event,”

McGowan said. “The team comes together and steps it up for the good of those less fortunate. It makes us – as a team – appreciate what we have and not take the holiday season for granted. I am beyond proud of my girls for what they accomplish off the field as well as on.”

In January, the Gallery will feature Bill Kuchler of West Islip. Mr. Kuchler specializes in realistic watercolors and acrylics inspired by places he has visited in the Northeast and here on Long Island. He endeavors to transform the focus on these overlooked settings, compelling the viewer to consider them from a new perspective.

The Lego Collection of Stella Ribando will be featured in the display cases for January. Stella is a 3rd grader at JFK Elementary School in East Islip and has been building Legos since she was 3 years old. Stella has continued to grow her lego collection and build very intricate/advanced sets that are for adults. You don’t want to miss this display!

In February, the Gallery will feature Michael John Stillwell of Great River. Mr. Stillwell uses oil paint to capture beautiful and unique images. Although he specializes in landscape paintings, he is well versed in a variety of painting styles and subjects. Stop in to see the beautiful art presented by this local artist.
