Days To Remember By: Jamie Lynn Ryan This is the time to remember Cause it will not last forever These are the days To hold on to Cause we won’t Although we’ll want to Tis the season for proms and pictures and graduations, for final summer vacations with friends and future college and career plans … and even though I am well past that point in my life, this time of year always makes me a bit nostalgic. As I watch students I taught in dancing for years and younger siblings of friends set off on these great adventures,
I can’t help but think back to when it was all fresh and new to me (and feel just a little old!). Upon reflection, I think the one regret most people share is that we – as a collective class – did not take the time to savor the moments quite as much as we would have liked to. Sure, there are pictures and newspaper clippings and all sorts of mementos … but the treasured memories – those are the priceless artifacts that mean the most. Unfortunately, they also tend to fade over time. Me, I still look at my yearbook from time to time, smiling at all the nice compliments and inside jokes which fill the pages from friends, family and faculty members. I still carry a walletsized picture from my prom at Windows On The World – yes, I
still carry photos in my wallet – which has obviously become even more priceless to me given the events which transpired on September 11th. Did I enjoy every minute while it was happening? Somewhat, but probably not to the degree I should have. Unfortunately, we were all consumed with college and scholarship applications, finals and AP exams, term papers and preparing for graduation. The actual experience – the only part which truly matters in the long run – tended to get lost in the shuffle. So to this year’s graduates … try, really try, to slow down, stop and savor … These are the days to remember. These are the moments to treasure.

Awards are given to the individual and team that raise the most money. The Wantagh Park walk helps build awareness and raise funds for contending with this devastating disease. On Saturday May 18th, two of their athletes took home first place trophies in their final Junior Olympic Boxing Matches. Both Sean Stellin 14 of Deer Park and Brian Feliccia 15 of East Islip are now the 2013 Jr. Olympic
your SAT score, applying to colleges and hoping for an acceptance letter seems to just fade into the background as the final months tick down. These last few months misleadingly seem to be a little downtime and a resting period between actual high school and college. After slapping their future college’s bumper sticker on their cars, many students feel that their struggle is over. These students have done it, they have completed their journey. Not quite; getting accepted is just the first half of the battle. You can’t let your grades slip! Some colleges create the stipulation that even if one’s Grade Point Average drops a single letter
grade; the acceptance will prove to be null, void and ultimately invalid. This continued expectation is harder still for those students that aced the SAT’s, assumed a loaded schedule and basically busted their humps their entire academic career. The temptation to slack is so great that even the most promising students have been known to fall. This pseudo-sickness has been even known to travel between groups of close friends, as many times the influence is drastic. So what does this mean for your future high school senior? Do not catch Senioritis! The only known cure for Senioritis is a phenomenon known as Graduation.

Every person in the courtroom held their breath as the verdict was read. “Innocent of all charges,” was the reply. Five months of preparation, research and practice with our attorney advisor came down to these four words. Victory was sweet indeed! The SSCM Mock Trial Team, an Enrichment Offering, was one of fourteen schools to participate in the Eleventh Annual Catholic Middle School Mock Trial Program which was held on Saturday, May 18th, at St. John’s University School of Law. Over four hundred people listened as Dean Michael Simmons spoke of the invaluable educational opportunity that mock trial programs provide to students. Dean Simmons iterated how these students learn about our legal system, develop analytical and reasoning skills, practice public speaking and build self-confidence. He has been previously honored as a “Cop of the Month” while also receiving a “Departmental Recognition” Award. Last year alone, Police Officer Padgett made 31 arrests including six for DWI and four for felony activities. He demonstrated excellent traffic enforcement activity

They will celebrate the construction of Angela’s House III being complete in Stony Brook.
