In preparation for the beginning of classes next week, Hills Park Dental of Deer Park provided school supplies for the students of Deer Park’s John Quincy Adams Primary School. “All of us at JQA are so appreciative of Hills Park Dental for their generous school supply donation,” Associate Principal Dr. Lynn Coyle said. “Their kindness and thoughtfulness are going to support so many of our students as they begin their school year here at JQA.”

The Long Island Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association is inviting you to a 3 part program called “Living with Alzheimer’s for Caregivers” from 6:307:30 p.m at our chapter office.

arise in the early stage. Hear from those directly affected and learn what you can do to cope with the changes that come with an early-stage diagnosis.

What Is Rosh Hashanah?

Rosh Hashanah is an important holiday on the Jewish calendar. According to the Jewish National Fund, Rosh Hashanah marks the Jewish New Year and is a celebration of the anniversary of the creation of Adam and Eve. Adherents to the Jewish faith wish each other a good, sweet year ahead on Rosh Hashanah, a day that is steeped in tradition. One such tradition is the sounding of the shofar, which the JNF notes are representative of the trumpet blast that sounded the coronation of kings. The sounding of the shofar also symbolizes a call to repentance. The shofar itself is a ram’s horn that calls to mind the story of the Blinding of Isaac, an event that occurred on Rosh Hashanah and involved a ram taking Isaac’s place as an offering to God. Of course, no celebration of Rosh Hashanah, which takes place over two days, is complete without a festive meal. Foods served during Rosh Hashanah celebrations tend to be sweet and are meant to symbolize hope for an enjoyable year ahead. In addition, the JNF says it is customary for Rosh Hashanah to eat foods with names that allude to blessing and prosperity. Rosh Hashanah begins September 15, 2023, at sundown and it concludes at nightfall on September 17, 2023.

Lightning Warriors To Host 4th Annual Mini Maniac Youth Triathlon

Lightning Warriors, a notfor-profit youth triathlon team, will be hosting its 4th annual Mini Maniac Youth Triathlon on Sunday September 17, 2023 at 7:00 AM at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai, New York.

This year’s Mini Maniac event will be geared toward triathletes of all levels between the ages of 7 and 17. While all racers will be participating in a youth triathlon, races will be divided into three separate age groups with swimming, biking and running distances varying accordingly. Younger athletes

are also encouraged to register to participate in the Splash & Dash event, which is a 50-meter swim and a quarter-mile run for athletes between the ages of 5 and 7.

“I am excited to see the smiles and accomplishments as each athlete crosses the finish line and for those first timers being called a triathlete,” says Lightning Warriors Head Coach Noah Lam.

All Mini Maniac participants will be able to take part in training clinics with the Lightning Warriors team in

the months leading up to the triathlon. Favor bags will also be distributed to each racer, as well as medals for all finishers, awards for the top male and female finishers and post-race refreshments.

Participating in youth triathlons help build positive physical activity habits in children. According to Lam, “Every child should be able to swim, bike and run as those are lifetime skills… We’ve also seen that physical activity can provide immense benefits for mental health, more self-

esteem, a sharper focus on achieving goals and a better ability to connect with other kids.”

Athletes’ individual skills will also be enhanced by being a part of a team in a healthy competitive and supportive space. “You get to find new ways to overcome adversity in a safe environment,” Lam states. These skills will thus motivate them to exuberate confidence and conquer their goals, both inside and outside of racing.

The Mini Maniac event is the largest sanctioned kids
