December 2025 Dear Fellow Chamber Members and Residents of the Massapequa’s, As I write this on Christmas Eve, I am reflecting on what a wonderful holiday season we have shared here in Massapequa. It began with our 5th Annual Holiday Fair, which truly kicked off the festivities with holiday shopping, festive activities, and a special visit from Santa Claus. I extend my sincere thanks to everyone who attended and supported this cherished community tradition, with special appreciation to our Main Sponsor, Investment Insight Wealth Management, along with CMIT Solutions of South Nassau, TLC Home Care, Long Island Snapshotz, and Legame Permanent Jewelry, for their generous support. A special thank you as well to our Holiday Fair Event Co-Chairs, Randi Jankowski and Isabelle Rapacciuolo, whose hard work helped make this year’s event better than ever. As we close out the year, I am incredibly proud of all we accomplished together and excited about the many events planned for 2026.
visiting with Santa, festive music, and student performances that truly captured the spirit of the holidays. A sincere thank-you to our main sponsor, Masone Masonry, for helping transform Klestinec Park into a beautiful winter wonderland, along with our Gold Star Sponsors CMIT Solutions, J.P. Scar Inc., Apple Bank, Massapequa Imaging, and TLC Home Care, for their generous support in making this special evening possible. We also extend our thanks to Broadway Gourmet for donating hot cocoa and cookies, helping everyone stay warm while celebrating together. Thank you to Sal Polito and Gary Slavin for their donations as well. Special appreciation goes to Chairperson Lucrezia Falacara and to everyone who came out to celebrate with us and make the evening so memorable. Our Annual Holiday Party at Mercato Kitchen & Cocktails was also a lovely evening enjoyed by all who attended. We were proud to close out the season on a high note with our successful Toys for Tots collection and press conference at our new Chamber office. We continue this special tradition in memory of our Past President and friend Patricia Orzano. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community and the participation of 25 Chamber member businesses, hundreds of toys were collected and will bring joy to many children in need this holiday season. A heartfelt thank-you to Toy Committee Chairperson Karen Gawrych and the committee for their dedication and hard work, as well as to all of our members who proudly displayed Toys for Tots collection boxes and helped make this initiative such a meaningful success. Patty’s legacy lives on through this program. This month also brought moments of sadness. We were deeply saddened by the sudden passing of our dear friend Carol Leff, a longtime former board member whose dedication to our Chamber and community will always be remembered. Carol will be truly missed. Our hearts are also with our Past President, Robert Barrett, on the loss of his brother Michael. Losing a loved one is never easy, especially during the holiday season, and we extend our deepest condolences to the Leff and Barrett families during this difficult time.

Deep breathing exercises can help individuals maintain personal health and wellbeing. According to the American Institute of Stress, 20 to 30 minutes per day of “belly breathing,” also known as abdominal breathing or diaphragmatic breathing, can reduce stress and anxiety. The American Sleep Association reports that focusing on breath might be able to help induce sleep for people struggling to fall asleep. In addition to helping reduce stress and promote relaxation, breathing techniques are useful during labor to focus and release tension. Individuals with COPD often find it difficult to breathe, which can compound anxiety and make it even harder to breathe. But the COPD Foundation notes that two different breathing techniques can help an individual take in air without working hard: abdominal breathing and pursed-lips breathing.

Lockhart Marks 37 Years Of Wish Granting For the second year in a row, Lockhart Elementary School in the Massapequa School District reached the $15,000 mark for its annual donation to the Make-AWish Foundation. The total was revealed at the end of the annual Make-A-Wish concert on Dec. 23, drawing applause and cheers from the crowd of students, staff, teachers, administrators, board of education trustees, local elected officials and PTA leaders. The concert featured a collection of Christmas, Hanukkah and winter songs performed by the fifth grade orchestra, chorus and band. The orchestra, which opened the show, was led by Inna Tymochko-Dekajlo. Chorus students, under the direction of Kathleen Dyckman, closed out their four-song set with the highly-anticipated “Holiday Lights.” The band was conducted by Nicole Boyle. Fundraising events for the Make-A-Wish Foundation
took place over the previous six weeks, including a walka-thon, raffle ticket sales and more. The $15,000 raised will be used to grant a wish for Ezra, a 6-yearold boy who recently had a liver transplant. He and his family will be taking a trip to Disney World. “This is not just another school fundraiser, this is not just another school collection,” Principal Michael DeLuca said. “The spirit of Make-A-Wish and what it represents completely embodies what Lockhart strives to be. This wonderful organization helps families lives out a dream that might not be possible. For us to be a part of that truly shows how much we care about helping others.” Started in 1989, Lockhart’s 37 years of donating to Make-A-Wish is the longest-running school campaign in the United States. Joan Siedlecki, a wish granter, accepted
the donation and talked to students about the mission and purpose of the organization. “Wishes are so much more than a trip, a puppy or
a gaming system,” Assistant Principal Louisa Vecchione said. “They are a spark of hope, a reminder that anything is possible. Year after year, I have seen our
school unite as a family to bring joy and strength to children and their families.” The program also featured remarks from student council adviser
Diane Bacheller and student council president Madison Sheinfeld. It closed out with a holiday sing-along for all students, staff and guests.

McKenna Student Leaders Help Others Bundle Up Embracing the giving spirit of the holiday season, the Student Ambassadors club at McKenna Elementary School in the Massapequa School District organized the Bundle Up Bonanza to collect winter wear for the needy. Fifth grade student leaders came up with the catchy name for the winter accessories drive, in which students and staff were encouraged to donate new items such as gloves, mittens, hats, scarves and socks. Boxes in the main lobby were filled up, and the drive ran from Dec. 15-22. All items were given to the parish outreach center at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Massapequa Park. Under the leadership of adviser Olivia Belfiore, members of Student Ambassadors created signs both by hand and digitally to hang around the school to promote the winter clothing drive. They also prepared speeches to read during the morning announcements. “For people who can’t afford winter accessories, they can now stay warm during the winter,” fifth McKenna Elementary School Student Ambassadors, from left, Charlette SanFilippo, Sal Mastasi, Lucy O’Brien and Landon Opak, along with adviser Olivia Belfiore, spearheaded the Bundle Up Bonanza winter accessories drive. our troops overseas.” On Monday, Dec. 8, Operation Holiday Cheer began with a festive event at Dees’ Nursery in Oceanside, N.Y. Veterans, local community members, schoolchildren, and Nassau County officials joined the celebration, with Santa making a special appearance. Students read their heartfelt letters to soldiers, followed by a performance of holiday and patriotic songs by the American Bombshells. Following the celebration, a police motorcade accompanied the convoy from Dees’ Nursery to DHL’s JFK Gateway facility, where trees, decorations, letters, and more were loaded onto a DHL 767 jet. After a brief stop at DHL’s Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport hub, the shipment headed to the
DHL Bahrain hub before reaching U.S. military bases in the region. This year’s contributions included trees from Dees’ Nursery and items donated by local organizations, including Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon, the Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski Memorial Fund, and various VFW chapters throughout New York State. DHL’s Operation Holiday Cheer traces its origins to 2004, when the mother of a deployed U.S. soldier asked DHL to help her send her son a Christmas tree. Inspired by this request, Dees’ Nursery, along with local businessman Jim Adelis and DHL, arranged the delivery. Since then, DHL has transported more than 14,000 Christmas trees and other holiday items to troops overseas, providing a heartwarming reminder of home each holiday season.
