The Town of Islip welcomed Good Samaritan University Hospital’s new Patient Care Pavilion. This six-story, 300,000-squarefoot facility will serve thousands of patients over the coming years, promoting healing, innovation, and compassion. This marks the largest investment in Suffolk County by Catholic Health, which has delivered this modern facility to serve the residents of the Town of Islip and support a healthier population overall.
“Good Samaritan University Hospital has been defined by healing, caring, and dignity,” said Town of Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “As an institution that has served my family for more than 60 years in both happy and sad times, I am incredibly grateful to have access to this modern facility, which

will benefit everyone in the community and continue to allow the hospital to deliver the highest quality care to all.”
“The Patient Care Pavilion is more than a building; it is a bold statement of Catholic Health’s vision for the future of health care delivery on Long Island,” said Patrick M. O’Shaughnessy, DO, MBA, president and CEO of Catholic Health. “This investment affirms our steadfast commitment to advancing the standard of care to ensure every patient who walks through our doors receives the best possible outcomes, always with a level of dignity and compassion unique to Catholic Health.”
The Pavilion features an emergency department with 75 private treatment bays, with dedicated spaces for both adult and pediatric patients, and 16 advanced

operating rooms. With more ambulance pay, the hospital intends to have faster response times in the event of trauma, stroke, cardiac, and other medical emergencies.
“The Patient Care Pavilion—and most importantly, its people— are evolving the state of health care on Long Island,” said Justin B. Lundbye, MD, MBA, FACHE, president of
Samaritan University Hospital. “From the earliest planning stages, we listened to our physicians, nurses, staff, and community to design a space that facilitated the delivery of holistic, compassionate care at every encounter. Every detail has been thoughtfully planned to enhance safety, efficiency, and comfort for patients, families, and caregivers.”

Volunteering is a great way for individuals to strengthen their communities, but it also can be a unique way for individuals to improve their own overall happiness. A recent study published in the Journal of Happiness Studies examined 70,000 participants, each of whom received surveys that asked questions regarding their volunteering habits and mental health. The study found that, when compared to those who did not volunteer, people who had volunteered in the previous 12 months were more satisfied with their lives and gave their overall health higher ratings.
Islip Food For Hope Sets Record
Islip Food for Hope set a record this year, collecting enough donated supplies to provide more than 1,100 Thanksgiving 'Boxes of Love’ to local families in need, bringing holiday cheer to families across the Town of Islip with its annual Thanksgiving distribution at Casamento Park in West Islip. Volunteers gathered to hand out turkeys and hundreds of 'Boxes of Love' filled with all the essentials needed to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving meal including stuffing, yams, green beans, and cranberry sauce.
“We are truly blessed by the generosity of our community,” said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “Each year, we are able to help more families enjoy a warm and meaningful Thanksgiving. On behalf of the members of the Islip Town Board, we wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday season.”
