Suffolk County Community College Radio and Television Production major Christian Gonzalez’ The Macabre Sessions set a new standard for innovative programing at Suffolk Internet Radio this past summer -- a thirteen-part radio series.
According to Gonzaelz’s suspense-filled radio promo, the horror program series follows a couple working for a secret agency that “… investigates all things freaky, everything from demonic choirs to other dimensions.”
Gonzalez, a Copiague High School graduate, began his drama series on a lark – he needed to produce something for class.
“I was stuck,” Gonzalez related, “writer’s block. And then one day the idea just sparked. I took a leap of faith.”
Gonzalez said after producing his first episode of The Macabre Sessions, Suffolk Internet Radio Station Manager Bill Terry urged him to produce more.

Fear You Can Hear, Suffolk Radio Student Charts New Ground With Innovative Program
“Chris produced his first episodes for our Advanced Radio Production class last spring. The students in the class loved them so Chris produced more. We then discussed how to best program the series and decided on Friday nights at 9 as a summer series. The series is a very complicated production. From inception, to writing, to finding the talent, to recording the final mix of voice overs, music, and sound effects, Chris did it all,” Terry said.
Gonzalez explained that the creative process began with a rough concept followed by approximately two hours of production in the studio finalizing a script and choosing sound effects.
“Once I have a blueprint for the program I’ll choose the various voices from among my friends – fellow students in the Radio and TV program,” Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez said this season’s first episodes of his series ran from Memorial Day weekend and concluded Labor Day weekend. A series of new stories will pick up this winter.

The Charity of the Month for October is Helen Keller Services
October is a month that celebrates the blind community in a variety of ways.
October 14 is World Sight Day, which focuses on public awareness of blindness and vision impairment as major international public health issues to influence funding for national blindness prevention and to educate about blindness prevention.
October 15 is White Cane Day, established in 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson to raise awareness of people who carry a white cane, to help motorists identify and yield to people using one and to create legal penalties for not doing so.
Additionally, the entire month of October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which celebrates the contributions of America’s workers with disabilities, past and present, and showcases supportive, inclusive employment policies and practices.
Taken together, a common goal of these intersecting events is to raise the level of appreciation for people who do not have full use of their sight, yet overcome daily challenges to live and be treated equally alongside their sighted brothers and sisters.
Helen Keller Services (HKS) is a nonprofit organization with locations across Long Island and the nation. Since 1893, they have been committed to improving the lives of individuals who are blind, have low vision or combined hearing and vision loss. Their mission is to enable individuals who are blind, DeafBlind, have vision loss, or hearing and vision loss to live, work and thrive in the communities of their choice.
The core values of this organization guide their work and performance as they strive to deliver their mission. They value diversity and are committed to
equality. They embrace an environment where teamwork is paramount

HKS is comprised of Helen Keller Services for the Blind, a regional division serving the New York City/Long Island area, and the Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youth and Adults, a national division headquartered in Sands Point, New York, with a network of regional offices that extends HKS’ reach across the United States. Our Helen Keller National Center (HKNC) is located in Port Washington and is the only comprehensive national program that provides information, referral, support and training exclusively to youths and adults who have combined vision and hearing loss. The Center also supports the families and professionals who work with the DeafBlind community.
