growing thousands of baby oysters at our community oyster gardens graciously hosted in crates at the docks of Babylon & Bay Shore Yacht Clubs. Volunteers are wanted to help maintain the gardens by cleaning up the crates, then counting & measuring the baby oysters to track their growth.
Great hands on experience for all - scouts and families welcome. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. We recommend clothing that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty and/or wet. See below to volunteer for one or more days.

The foods a person eats before attempting to donate blood could affect whether or not he or she is allowed to donate. According to the American Red Cross, its staff members routinely check the level of hemoglobin in donors’ blood and platelets before they accept donations. Hemoglobin is a protein in the body that contains iron and gives blood its distinctive red color. Hemoglobin
plays a vital role in human health, carrying oxygen from the lungs to nourish all of the tissues in the body. Hemoglobin levels are checked using fingersticks, and if hemoglobin levels are low,
then donors will be asked to wait to donate until their levels return to normal. So what does food have to do with hemoglobin? Iron is a part of hemoglobin and found in many of the foods a person eats. Iron
helps people maintain their strength and energy, and it’s also necessary to help the body make new blood cells to replace the ones that are lost through blood donations. The Red Cross encourages
prospective donors to eat healthy foods that are rich in iron and high in vitamin C, as doing so can increase their chances of being accepted as blood donors and can aid in their recoveries after donating.
Requirements:
- Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to handle inquiries and complaints professionally
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively
- Accurate data entry skills with attention to detail
- Clerical experience in an office setting is preferred
- Phone etiquette skills to handle calls with professionalism and courtesy
The successful candidate will have the chance to develop their administrative skills while providing excellent customer service. Only candidates who meet these requirements will be contacted for an interview.

• Community government: A person may choose to sit on the board of a school, a neighborhood housing association, or even explore volunteerism with a township municipal office. This will provide valuable hands-on experience and
may help one lend a voice to issues that affect his or her living situation.
• Religious groups: Churches, synagogues and mosques may have volunteer opportunities focused on community outreach or programs affiliated with local nonprofits.
• Conservation groups: Volunteers can work on conservation projects across the country. From wildlife management to trail restoration to invasive species eradication, there are a wide variety of conservationbased volunteering opportunities.
