NEW GARBAGE TRUCK FLEET UNVEILED

The Town of Babylon and Encon Industries recently unveiled 34 state-of-the-art garbage trucks that will serve the Town and provide tremendous environmental and safety benefits. This new fleet was built by Encon Industries specifically for the Town of Babylon, with each truck depicting a scene of the Town’s beauty.

Moriches Field Brewing Company received $18,750 to revitalize an empty downtown space.

Revitalization grants are just one of the ways we help businesses on Long Island and in the Rockaways. For Moriches Field Brewing Company, a grant from our economic development program was a perfect fit to help them renovate a previously vacant property. Introduction Of 34 New Trucks To Yield Environmental, Safety, And Monetary Benefits

The Town of Babylon and Encon Industries recently unveiled 34 stateof-the-art garbage trucks that will serve the Town and provide tremendous environmental and safety benefits. This new fleet was built by Encon Industries specifically for the Town

of Babylon, with each truck depicting a scene of the Town’s beauty. At the unveiling press conference, Town of Babylon elected officials and Encon Industries executives eagerly discussed the benefits residents will experience from the new

trucks.

“With the fleet manufactured and delivered ahead of schedule, these beautiful new trucks are ready to dutifully serve our community,” said Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer. “They will efficiently

clean our streets, all while showcasing the lovely landscapes of the Town of Babylon and saving residents money.”

The Town of Babylon’s new contract with Encon Industries will keep the Town’s garbage taxes among the lowest on Long

Island. Encon Industries’ first 10-year-old contract saved residents over $124 million compared to the Town’s previous carter. This resulted in the Town’s per household rate being cut almost in half during this period.

“The unveiling of this

new fleet celebrates our continued tradition of savings with Encon Industries,” said Supervisor Schaffer. “We encourage residents to be on the lookout for these new trucks as they enhance our community and keep Babylon clean.”

friendships with other members of the program. Mentors would meet with their mentees one on one and plan different activities throughout the school year. To close out this year’s program, the students and their mentors gathered in the school’s cafeteria

Copiague’s Class Of 2023 Celebrates Commencement

Class of 2023 celebrated the 64th commencement exercises on June 22 at the arena at Suffolk County Community College’s Brentwood campus.

The Class of 2023 lost of bulk of their high school years due to the pandemic. Possibly one of the greatest takeaways is nothing can stop you from achieving greatness.”

Class of 2023 salutatorian Edison Peguero Rosario relayed a few lessons learned from his wrestling coach and physical education teacher Anthony Cipriano, who passed away last year. “The first thing I learned from Mr. Cipriano is how to prioritize the important things in life. He said your first priority is your family; your second priority is school; and your third priority is everything else,” he said. “The second lesson ‘be 1% better today than you were yesterday.’ Everything worthwhile in this world won’t come easy. Whatever you may aspire to do or be will take constant effort and improvement from you every day, but the steps you take to be that version of yourself do not need to be big steps. Lastly, excuses are glorified reasons for failure. Don’t let those past and future trials and tribulations hold you back from your future success, whatever you define as success.”

Valedictorian Jack Langan asked his classmates to reflect on the many firsts they experienced in this academic journey, from the first day of kindergarten to middle school and high school graduation today.

“That same underlying sense of fear we felt in every step forward we’ve ever taken into the next chapter of our lives is more prevalent than ever,” he said. “But

if there’s one lesson our hindsight and reflection can teach us: it’s that great and wonderful things lie behind that sense of worry. Fear is not something that should hold us back, we should embrace it. For fear is a sign that we’re growing, that we’re challenging ourselves, and that we’re stepping outside of our comfort zones. Use that strength to fuel your future endeavors and navigate through our dynamic and ever-changing world.”

Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Principal Joseph Agosta expressed his sense of pride at the growth he has witnessed during their years in Copiague. “When you look back and reflect you will recognize that for much of these past 13 years, you have been supported by loving families, caring and dedicated teachers and administrators and a board of education focused on providing you with the skills needed to help you reach your true potential, stand on your own and take your place as productive world citizens,” he said. “Looking forward, much is expected from you, and I have great confidence in your abilities. As you continue forward on your journey, I hope you look back at your years in high school with fond memories. I charge you with the task of continuing to put what you have learned to good use and to be a positive force in your community.”

Advocates assist with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP – formerly known as food stamps), Medicare Savings Program and Heating Emergency Assistance Program (HEAP) applications. They also can provide information on Medicare, answer questions and make recommendations and referrals. “For more than three decades, the Suffolk County Office for the Aging has been providing full and trouble-free access to critical services,” Donnelly said. “I am glad to see their great professional community outreach program continue and hope that every senior resident will make full use of it.”

Advance Care Plans

The United States population is rapidly aging. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), by 2030, the number of Americans aged 65 and older will more than double to 71 million older Americans, comprising roughly 20 percent of the U.S. population.

With age comes the added burden of dealing with illnesses such as heart failure, dementia

and cancer, any one of which can leave you unable to make decisions involving your care. Unless you have a plan in place, the burden will fall on your family.

Copiague Seniors Celebrate Final Days Together

The soon-to-be graduates of Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School’s Class of 2023 had one more opportunity to connect with their classmates, share lunch and memories of their years together

during Senior Day on June 13. With their yearbooks in hand, the students donned their senior shirts as they gathered outside to enjoy the sunshine, barbeque and time with their classmates. Faculty and staff joined
