Newly Diagnosed Breast Cancer Support Group On Zoom

The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Program is forming a new online support group for individuals diagnosed with breast cancer within the past 18-months. The group, which is free, will provide the opportunity for people to meet with others, and receive support. Sessions will be held on Thursdays from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. on Zoom for 6 weeks from May 2nd through June 6, 2024. For more information and to register, call Nina Foley, LMSW at (516) 877-4315. EARTH DAY CLEANUP

The Levittown Community Council is hosting an earth day cleanup at Veterans Memorial Park in Levittownn. This is a free event.

Only certain veterans can get the complete comprehensive caregiver benefit package through the VA. DAV (Disabled American Veterans) is working to change these laws and correct this inequity. Many Americans are asking their legislators where they stand on the issue.

- At a recent meeting of the Copiague Chamber of Commerce at the Lindencrest Diner in Lindenhurst, the Chamber presented their guest speaker for the evening - Madeline Quintyne, Town of Babylon, Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer. The discussion revolved around forming relationships with the Town of Babylon, the Community and its Organizations. Environmental Scholarships Offered

The South Shore Audubon Society is offering two $1,000 scholarships for College juniors, seniors, or graduate students earning a degree in the areas of biological or environmental science. This includes wildlife management, forestry, animal behavior, ecology, marine biology, oceanography, mammalogy, ornithology or the field of sustainable and renewable energy. Previous winners have used their scholarships to help purchase books, to

pay for travel expenses to field sites, for specialized equipment or other educational needs.

To be eligible for the Scholarships, applicants must be residents of one of the areas listed at www. ssaudubon.org/areas-weserve.asp and/or attend a college in Nassau or Suffolk County. One Word That Can Change Everything

Last week, I pulled out of my office parking spot which is on the corner of Linton Avenue and Montauk Highway (across from the Lindenhurst Diner). I sat at the red light and looked back at my building to see a mural I had painted on it when I moved in two years ago.

I saw the side of the building as a blank canvas and thought about all the people who would drive by my building every morning and every evening. This was a golden advertising opportunity, but what did I want to tell them? Maybe I could paint something about JoAnn Cilla Real Estate or come up with a witty tag line to get people to call me if they were looking to buy or sell a house.

Nah, that’s not my style. I would rather let my friends and residents of Lindenhurst know how much I appreciate the support they gave me when I started my business in 2021. I also wanted to let people know who might be new to the area, or even those just passing through for the day, that we appreciated them spending time in our town.

Yes, that was it, but what three words would make people stop what they were doing to appreciate where they were at that exact moment? Then it hit me…

I want the mural to remind people to pause and appreciate the big victories and the quiet moments. I want it to say to my clients, thank you for your trust and friendship. To my team, thank you for your dedication and hard work. And to our community, thank you for making Lindenhurst the best place to live. If you’re passing by, I hope the message inspires you. And if you ever want to talk about our local real estate market or just want some advice, park next to the sign and come on in…my door is always open.
