FOURTH GRADE LESSONS ON NATIVE AMERICANS - As part of their social studies curriculum, fourth graders in Mr. Thompson and Ms. Hagan’s class at Great Neck Road Elementary School in the Copiague School District are learning about Native American tribes of New York. The fourth graders recently studied the five groups of the Iroquois Confederacy. Working in small groups, the students researched one of the tribes and learned about their lives – including transportation, housing, food sources, clothing and religion – and created posters filled with facts. Three Seniors Achieve Girl Scout Gold
Three seniors from Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School recently earned their Gold Awards, the highest achievement within the Girl Scouts of the USA which consists of 80 hours of community service. Emily Newman, Annamaria Pepe and Theresa Soraire are all members of Troop 1052. The 12th graders have been in the same troop since first grade. They said while many members of the troop have come and gone through the years, the three stayed consistent, creating a special bond. For her project, Newman created and compiled care packages for children in the NICU at Good Samaritan Hospital. Pepe knitted hats and created care packages for breast cancer patients, which were donated to the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition. Soraire created a recipe book of safe foods for those suffering from eosinophilic esophagitis. All three students had some connection to their
Gold Award projects. Their a plaque that hangs in the names are now engraved on high school’s hallway.

Among the innovative and award-winning services available are Job Fairs, held at convenient locations throughout the County,
and Suffolk County's OneStop Employment Center in Hauppauge which offers workshops, job placement assistance, resume preparation and career counseling. For more information on upcoming Job Fairs or any of these services please visit suffolkcountyny.gov/labor
