Community Cupboard The North Babylon School District hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the grand opening of the Bulldog’s Cupboard, a food pantry designed to help community members in need. The pantry, based in room 301 at North Babylon High School near the North Gym, is open to any local person or family every Thursday from 6-8 p.m. It is run and operated by high school students and staff members, and any person is welcome to donate to the pantry.

Catching Snowflakes “We have only this moment, sparking like a star in our hand ~ and melting like a snowflake.” ~ Sir Francis Bacon As we approach the end of 2017 and look ahead to the new horizons of 2018, we reflect. Each year is full of its own moments, fleeting instants of happiness and sadness, anger and elation, all coming together to form this composite of life as we know it. And in those moments, we form the memories which carry us forward to the next chapter. There are two schools of thought relating to this; the first is that things have the ability to change in the blink of an eye, to take on an entirely new, often unexpected

direction. This can be in the form of a beautiful surprise, or a tragic turn; there is simply no telling. We are well aware of these possibilities. In fact, we will often remark how grateful we should be for the present, how appreciative of our blessings and those whom we love dearly. And yet, somewhere along the way, we tend to forget how very lucky we are.

Soldier Surprise West Babylon Junior High School seventhgrader Grace Bonamico was overwhelmed with emotion when her military sister surprised her at school during her English class on December 15th. Grace hasn’t seen her sister Colleen Bonamico since she left for technical training school in Biloxi, Mississippi, in August. Colleen, who is a 2017 West Babylon graduate, is an airman ﬁrst class in the

U.S. Air Force stationed in San Antonio, Texas, for her basic training. Colleen graduated from technical training school on December 5th and made a surprise visit home to see her family before she leaves on her new assignment in Arizona on January 3rd. “She is my best friend,” Grace said. “It will be a special holiday this year because she is here.”
