Christmas time is here.

The days and weeks and months of planning and preparation, of shopping and wrapping and decorating and baking, have all led to this brief window of time, from Christmas Eve through Christmas Day, which lends itself to all sorts of magical moments and memories.

These are the days we remember for years to come, the snapshots we savor, the recipes we pass down from generation to generation.

Say what you will about the commercialism and chaos that has engulfed our society – this the time we

can recapture the true spirit of the season.

Speaking of commercialism, anyone who attempted to purchase Adele tickets in the last week or so was faced with the reality that, unless you have thousands of dollars at your disposal to splurge on a pair of seats at MSG, you had best sit back and enjoy that $15 CD and accept the fact that live performances are becoming increasingly out of reach for the average consumer.

For me, two straight days of manically refreshing my browser during both the advance sale and general sale led to nothing but wasted time and ample frustration.

‘Tis the season, indeed.

The upside?

In

the grand scheme of things, being deprived of live entertainment (temporarily, as I haven’t given up quite yet) isn’t the end of the world. As we prepare to turn the page on yet another year, we should give thanks for the important things – our health, our loved ones, the ability to celebrate with family and friends… perspective.

And with that, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

LEGAL NOTICE TO TAXPAYERS Notice is hereby given taxpayers of the Town of Babylon, that the Undersigned Receiver of Taxes has received the 2015/2016 Tax and Assessment Roll and Warrant.

She will accept payment for taxes at her office in the Town Hall, 200 East Sunrise Highway, North Lindenhurst, N.Y. 11757 or by mail, beginning December 2015 daily between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Tax Office will be closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays. First half taxes are due December 1st, 2015 payable to January 10th, 2016 without penalty.

After January 10th, 2016 one percent per month will be added on the first half to May 31st, 2016 after which date additional interest will be charged by the County Treasurer at her office at County Center, Riverhead, N.Y. 11901.

The Town of Babylon Tax Office will be accepting partial payments with penalty.
