On Sunday, August 14, 2022, Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Councilman Dwayne Gregory, and Councilman Terence McSweeney joined lifeguards at Gilgo Beach to celebrate Allen Stanley’s 50 years of service as a lifeguard to the Town of Babylon, many of which were spent at Gilgo Beach. Allen was known as “Al the lifeguard” and was a fixture seen in the water rowing a big wood “Gilgo Beach” row boat. “Al the Lifeguard,” said he was grateful for the recognition and all who came to celebrate with him and said he’s done it this long because he just loves what he does.

Babylon Chorale Upcoming Auditions
CJ, the documentaryaward-winningaboutHallie Twomey’s healing mission, is coming to public television in September, during National Suicide Prevention Month. The film, which has sparked essential conversations about mental health and suicide prevention, is sponsored in part by Southeast Nassau Guidance Center, with locations in Seaford and Wantagh. SNG helped fund the creation of a screening guide and discussion questions that can accompany screenings and community events, the creation of a Spanishsubtitled version of the film and making the film ADA compliant through closed captions and Descriptive Video Track. Future plans include local community in-person events. Scattering CJ will air locally on public television on Thursday, September 15 at 9 pm on NJ PBS (available on Fios on Long Island ch.23); Friday, September 16 at 7 pm on WLIW World (Cablevision ch. 132, Fios ch.473); and Sunday, September 18 at 8 am on WLIW/ch.21.
When seemingly happy, travel-infatuated veteran CJ Twomey violently ended his own life at age 20, his family was plunged into unrelenting grief and guilt. In a moment of desperate inspiration, his mother Hallie put out an open call on Facebook, looking only for a handful of travelers who might help fulfill her son’s wish to see the world by scattering some of his ashes in a place of beauty or special meaning. Her heartfelt request struck a chord, creating a global online community of tens of thousands congregating in solidarity and empathy and inspiring more than 1,000 “scatterers” who documented the delivery of CJ’s ashes to locations on every Scatteringcontinent.

RMHC NY Metro is currently engaged in a campaign to support a new physical location in Suffolk. Individuals and companies from around the region have committed financial support to helping grow the “Weoperation.areactively looking at options for bringing a Ronald McDonald House to Suffolk County,” said Nick Croce, Co-Chair of the RMHC NY Metro Suffolk County Advisory Council. “We want Suffolk families to have the TheHydeHouseRonaldweandaccommodationssameresourcesthatprovideattheMcDonaldinNewPark.”Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park is a 42-bed residential facility, providing free lodging for families with a child undergoing medical treatment at Cohen Children’s Hospital next door and at other medical facilities in the area. Families also have access to homecooked meals, which are donated and prepared by volunteers, as well as shower, laundry and play areas for siblings for the duration of their “Somestay.families come to us for days, weeks or months at a time, depending on the circumstances,” said Campo. “We want families to have access to those same resources in Suffolk County so they can keep their attention on helping their children get better.”

The 2022 Montauk Classic Bluefish & Striped Bass Surf Fishing Tournament will begin at Noon, Friday, September 30, 2022 and continue until Noon, Sunday, October 2, 2022. Fish must be landed from the beach, surf, jetty, bank or pier beginning at the western most tip of Napeague State Park and encompassing all points east.Paulie’s Tackle in Montauk will be the official weigh in station for the tournament.
