The Path of a Friend I Knew

Family Service League (FSL), a Long Island based non-profit human service organization, is pleased to announce that its annual Hampton’s Gala held on Friday, July 14th at the Oceanbleu on Dune Road in Westhampton Beach was a Sold-Out success. Proceeds from the Gala support the 60 programs FSL provides for thousands of Long Island families and individuals in need. FSL was pleased to honor Lincoln Computer Services with the Corporate Leadership Award and The Houseknecht Family with the Community Leadership Award. Teddy Cillis, President & CEO, and John Antimisiaris, Vice President & CTO, accepted the award on behalf of Lincoln. Alice Houseknecht, founder of the foundation graciously accepted the award and spoke about the positive impact that FSL has had on the East End. Both honorees are strong advocates of the many programs offered by FSL and understand the need to increase funding for services being provided to our Long Island community residents. It was a privilege to recognize both for their vision and commitment to Family Service League’s mission. Our Gala Committee, led by Co-Chairs, Jim Petrocelli of J. Petrocelli Contracting Inc. and Kim Stevens of Douglas Elliman Real Estate, planned an amazing evening of oceanfront cocktails, gourmet cuisine, dancing, and fabulous designer auction. It’s been something of a running joke in my family for years that I tend to quietly observe the interactions of those around me, storing away the nuances of particular events for a later date when they will, inevitably, wind up in a column. While I can’t say I am ever consciously taking mental notes, I suppose the comings and goings of others do find their way into my writings from time to time. There is a quote I’ve come across that I believe speaks to the art of writing quite accurately:

They exist separately, and are at once complementary. Perhaps that is the source of my fascination with both. The process to reach that level is a never-ending one, to be continuously tweaked and modified in the quest for perfection, for meaning. May we all find it someday.

The Eagle Scout is the highest achievable rank in the Boy Scout Organization. For his Eagle Scout project, Anthony, of Troop 1634, organized a blood drive with the New York Blood Center. Since blood is chronically in

Theresa Constantine is all smiles this summer and for good reason! The proud alum graduated from Deer Park’s Saints Cyril and Methodius School in June with more certificates than a girl can hold. She’s led a rich and fulfilling academic career thus far, getting involved in a wide array of so many of the extracurricular and athletic activities the school has to offer. Theresa has played

violin at SSCM for four years and has participated in the NYSSMA Music Festival (New York State School Music Association) twice during her time at SSCM. Theresa has been very involved in SSCM Parish, as well, volunteering at events like Breakfast with Santa and food collections for Parish Outreach, as well as serving as an altar server at SSCM for the past three years. Her involvement in SSCM’s

Chess Club, Drama Club, performance in SSCM’s Shakespeare Festival troupe and the school’s Cross Country Team have made for a well-rounded experience. With a $1,000 high school grant in her pocket, Theresa is excited to be attending St. John the Baptist High School in the fall, where she will continue to play the violin in SJB’s orchestra and join the school’s Cross Country Team. The young lady was on her feet quite a bit at SSCM’s Awards Ceremony, earning a Parents Association Scholarship, an award for Altar Service and one for Excellence in Music. The highlight of the day came when Theresa was named as the recipient of SSCM’s Cyrillian Award, a unique honor for the student handselected by SSCM’s Principal, Sister Susan Snyder, and based on all around academics and service. Theresa’s name will be added to the names of former recipients of the honor, on a commemorative plaque, which hangs in the halls of the school for posterity. We wish Theresa continued success and we look forward to her coming back to visit and sharing future successes!
