Sharing A Love Of Poetry

Annual Jones Beach Volleyball Tournament

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that they are hosting the 45th Annual Jones Beach Volleyball Tournament comprised of 6-player coed teams. This event will take place on Saturday, July 22, 2023 and will be held rain or shine.

The tournament will begin at 9:00AM on the volleyball courts at Central Mall Field 4 at Jones Beach State Park. The first round of matches will be played as a round robin. All teams are guaranteed to play seven games. The top two teams from each round robin bracket will advance on to the quarterfinals which will decide the two final teams. Cash prizes will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place teams. The

3rd and 4th place teams will receive merchandise prizes.

Registration is FREE and is open until the roster is full. Players must be 14 years old or older to participate. Players of all skill levels are welcome to play and will be seeded accordingly. 3rd Annual Senior Day In The Park

On Thursday, June 15th, Friends for Life Senior Foundation held its 3rd Annual Senior Day in the Park at Marjorie Post Park, Massapequa. The invite-only event drew 450+ attendees from the Massapequa and surrounding communities for a fun-filled day. This year’s Luau theme greeted each guest at check-in with their own Lei, and then they were escorted to their tables. The day began with opening announcements from the foundation’s Founder, Amy Recco, welcoming the guests and sponsors that generously

participated to make this day possible—the day included a gourmet catered BBQ Lunch from Broadway Gourmet and special Dilly Bars which are a fan fave from Dairy Queen. Our Resident MVP DJ, Michael Veccia, played music that had the seniors dancing the day away! Over 40 people took home various raffles basket prizes that were on display throughout the day for those who wanted to participate, compliments of sponsors, and many local businesses. The winners enjoyed prizes that included a pair of hearing aids, a digital

picture frame, gift cards to local restaurants and salons, retail stores, lottery board, and the grand prize was a lunch for four guests with Amy Recco! Many people took home fun photo pictures with friends and loved them at our high-tech photo booth. The smiling faces of the people enjoying this special day that is all about them plus the joy of nearly 30 volunteers = SUCCESS! External Diploma Program

The National External Diploma Program offers adults 21 and over, the opportunity to receive credit for their life experiences, and earn a high school equivalency diploma without the challenge of taking lengthy timed examinations.

NEDP, is a competency based program for students who are unable to attend classes or who prefer to work at home. Successful candidates for NEDP include former ESL students, students who have been out of school for prolonged periods of

Local Summer Senior Advocate Schedule

Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) is pleased to inform Babylon and Huntington residents about the local Suffolk County Office for the Aging Summer 2023 Senior Advocate Schedule. Senior advocates are County representatives who come out into the community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies.

“This is an excellent chance for senior citizens to get the assistance and information they need by connecting with the County’s senior advocates right in their own communities,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I hope all those interested in the services that the Suffolk County Office for the Aging provides will take advantage of this opportunity.”

2023 Sandcastle Contest To Be Held At Hither Hills State Park

New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce the 2023 Sandcastle Contest at Hither Hills State Park. The contest will be held each Thursday through August 31, 2023. Sand sculptors may use sand, water, and any other natural materials native to the beach.

Prizes are provided by the Natural Heritage Trust, the program’s sponsor. Each week’s prizes will be awarded for the best sculptors and

castles in several categories.

Registration is held each Thursday 9:30AM at Hither Hills State Park Visitors Center. A $10.00 Vehicle Use Fee will be in effect.

The top 25 students in the West Babylon Class of 2023 were honored for their accomplishments during the sixth annual Blue and Gold Brunch with the Superintendent on June 15.

Hosted by West Babylon School District’s Superintendent of Schools Dr. Yiendhy Farrelly and joined by district administrators, students were invited to celebrate their

achievements in the board of education room. The students were asked to choose a staff member who has greatly impacted their educational career to join them as their guest for the breakfast.

“Your character, resilience and perseverance shine through in everything you do,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Yiendhy Farrelly. “You have all excelled in the classroom, on the

athletics field, in the arts, or in some cases, all of these areas. We are so proud to call you graduates of West Babylon and can’t wait to see all the amazing things you will do in the future.”

Dr. Farrelly called each student up to be recognized individually and presented him or her with a gift. The student then invited their honored guest to be acknowledged as well.
