LA LA LAND HOSTS FUNDRAISER

On Saturday, June 1, 2024, La La Land, children's indoor play space and birthday party venue, hosted a Play For Ryan fundraiser to benefit Ryan Diller, the son of Detective Jonathan Diller who tragically lost his life in the line of duty back in March. There was open play, character appearances, face painting and raffles. The event raised over $3,000, which was donated to The Jonathan Diller Trust.

Creativity Through A Zen Mindset

“Creativity through a Zen Mindset” is a free workshop offered by the Adelphi NY Breast Cancer Program to women and men who have been affected by breast cancer. The in-person meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 16, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at Adelphi University in Garden City. At the workshop participants will learn ways

to achieve a “Zen mindset,” completing several art activities influenced by Japanese culture that promote calmness, simplicity and self-growth. The group will work with a variety of techniques and mediums and will experience a guided Zen meditation. All levels of artistic ability are invited to join.

Learn the basics of Sashiko, a Japanese form of embroidery that uses simple running stitches arranged in intricate patterns to create exquisite designs. After a brief history and demonstration, participants will practice

on a pre-printed sampler. Extra fabrics, stencils, and marking tools will also be available to make additional items. Participants will leave with their sampler, a skein of Sashiko thread, and a packet of traditional Sashiko designs. A nonrefundable $5 fee is due at registration.
